TRACMOD POWERED PLATFORMS

ref.: M 4767rev. no.:date: 10/98page: 1/1

Description of the application:

The new Federal Triangle, owned by the U.S. GovernmentServices Authority, was designed by architects Pei, Cobb,Fred & Partners.

The Ronald Reagan Building Auditorium houses a theaterthat required maintenance access to lighting suspendedfrom an inclined ceiling.

Tractel Ltd. supplied monorail track along both sides of thefixtures, mounted flush to the ceiling. The load of thesystem required that the monorail be supported from threestructural members above the ceiling level.

The TRACMOD powered platform is ground rigged fromspecial friction trolleys designed to be stable along theslightly inclined monorail.

When not in use, the platform is de-rigged and stored outof sight.

MID AIR TRANSFER SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS

1. Rig the SWB (single worker basket – powered end of the

platform) from the davit on the upper roof and descend

down to the monorail. Position the SWB so that contact with

the façade can be maintained to prevent the SWB from

spinning.

2. Use a choker connected to the SWB and secure it to the

monorail trolley.

3. Descend and the SWB load will be transferred from the

suspension line rigged to the davit to the choker rigged to

the monorail trolley. See photo below.

NOTE: As this load transfer occurs the suspension line will

angle towards the corner of the façade

and protection should be provided for that corner.

4. Once the load is completely transferred to the choker,

additional suspension line is paid out so the

davit can be laid down. A worker on the roof lays down the

davit and lowers the suspension line

down to the worker on the SWB.

5. The suspension line is then connected to another mono-

rail trolley. The slack is taken up and the load

is transferred back to the suspension line.

6. The choker can now be removed and stored. The SWB

has been transferred to the monorail and it

can be traversed to the desired drops.
