Clamping takes place as follows:
Place the workpiece in the center of the expanding sleeve, and slide the expanding sleeve until the workpiece is lightly clamped, then tap the rear end of the tapered arbor with a piece of wood to obtain tighter clamping. To separate the workpiece from the expanding sleeve, hold the workpiece and expanding sleeve in one hand and tap the smaller end of the arbor.
TEP Pages 8 and 9
TEP mandrels, the most basic in the range of mandrels for mounting workpieces between centers, consist of a tapered arbor and an expanding sleeve. They are used mainly for turning, grinding, balancing and inspection operations. They offer a high degree of expansibility, 1.5 to 5 mm, depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve, and can clamp workpieces with diameters ranging from 8 to 235 mm.

You can use a variety of types of workstop that are matched to the shape of the workpiece. They offer an expansibility of 1 to 2 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve, and can clamp workpieces with diameters ranging from 14.7 to 101.7 mm.
TEPN Pages 10 and 11
TEPN mandrels are intended for turning, grinding, shaving and inspection operations.
This type offers an expansibility of 0.5 to 1 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve, and can clamp workpieces with diameters ranging from an extremely small 5.5 mm to 79.7 mm. The knurled ring of the slotted expanding sleeve is fitted with a workstop used for positioning in the axial direction.
When placing an order for arbors and expanding sleeves, please provide the order codes individually. They will be shipped without being assembled.
Tighten the expanding sleeve with the knurled ring to clamp the workpiece.Expansion occurs as the expanding sleeve slides over the tapered arbor. The workpiece is f i rmly c lamped as a result of this expansion of the expanding sleeve.Due to the movement of the expanding sleeve over the tapered arbor, the workpiece is pressed against the workstop.

The most commonly used sizes of TEP mandrel have been brought together in a set of two types, which are offered in a robust toolbox to protect them.TEP mandrels are suited to inspection and grinding operations where the workpiece is mounted between centers.Guaranteed accuracy within stipulated expansion range: 0.01 mm (T.I.R.)The two types of TEP arbor / expanding sleeve set can accommodate workpiece diameters from 12 to 55 mm.
TEP-A: Diameters from 12 to 25 mmTEP-B: Diameters from 25 to 55 mm (1)
(1) In order to cover all of the workpiece diameters that can be handled with TEP mandrels, both of the sets TEP 280-8 and TEP 380-9 are required. Even exceptional applications can be covered by using either the TEP 250-8 or TEP 350-9 expanding sleeve at the maximum expansion.
TEP Mandrel Box Set
If you have a TEP mandrel you don’t have to spend time and effort preparing individual gripping tools.
It is taken for granted that every workstation where inspection and grinding are performed has a set of angle gauges and other measuring instruments, and the workstations should be equipped with sets of TEP mandrels too.Because of their versatility, reliability and high accuracy, TEP mandrels are indispensable for inspection and grinding operations in which the workpiece is held between centres.

TMCMT mandrels are similar to TMCM but they clamp the workpiece by the operation of a driving screw on the back face of the mandrel, which is connected to the machine's drawbar.
This type offers an expansibility of 1 to 2 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve, and can clamp workpieces with diameters ranging from 14.7 to 82.7 mm.
When placing an order for arbors and expanding sleeves, please provide the order codes individually. They will be shipped without being assembled.
The workpiece is inserted into the expanding sleeve from the front and the driving screw is tightened using a wrench. The workpiece is clamped when the expanding sleeve is pushed up onto the tapered arbor by tightening the driving screw.
Since the workpiece can be clamped a n d u n c l a m p e d a u t o m a t i c a l l y by operat ing this dr iv ing screw, workpiece changing time is reduced and operating convenience is greatly improved.

This type offers an expansibility of 0.5 to 1.5 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve. Since the replaceable types of expanding sleeve, driving screw and stopper plate are adopted, a wide range of workpieces with diameters from 16 to 131 mm can be clamped with only three types of arbor.
The expanding sleeve is fixed in place with the stop pin in the rotational direction and with the mandrel body and stopper plate in the axial direction. Due to the use of the stopper plate and the fact that the positional relationship between the expanding sleeve and the mandrel body does not change at clamping, the position of the workpiece does not change when clamping.
Since the driving screw makes contact with the whole length of the expanding sleeve, the front end of the expanding sleeve can be used for clamping, enabling clamping of short workpieces and end face machining.
There are two alternatives for clamping:
a) Clamping using the drawbar connector on the back of the mandrel that is connected to the drawbar of the machine
b) Clamping using the driving screw (screwed to the plate for manual clamping) on the front of the mandrel
TMTP Pages 22 and
23
TMTP mandrels are intended for turning, shaving, milling and gear cutting operations. Expansibility is between 1 and 2 mm, depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve.
Workpieces with diameters from 14.7 to 131.7 mm can be clamped, and there are two alternatives for clamping:
a) Clamping using the drawbar connector on the back of the mandrel that is connected to the drawbar of the machine
b) Clamping using the driving screw (screwed to the plate for manual clamping) on the front of the mandrel
MANDRELS FOR FLANGE MOUNTING
These mandrels mounted on the machine spindle nose with their flanges are especially rigid, and are recommended when high torque has to be transferred from the machine to the workpiece, and when high cutting forces are involved. With TMTP mandrels, the advance end is not supported by an arbor and for this reason they are not recommended for clamping short workpieces.
Maximum rotation speed when the workpiece is not clamped: 50 min-1
Clamping takes place as follows:The workpiece is clamped by means of a drawbar connector or a hexagonal wrench on the back of the mandrel.
Clamping takes place as follows:The workpiece is clamped when the expanding sleeve slides up onto the tapered arbor.

This is a suitable model for medium- and large-scale standardized lot production, for example automobile parts. This model can offer an expansibility of 0.8 or 1.0 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve and can clamp workpieces with diameters from 18 to 131 mm with only 5 varieties of arbor. Since the expanding sleeves can be attached and removed from the front easily, setup changes between workpieces with different diameters can be done smoothly if the same arbor type is used. Also, if various machines such as turning, grinding, gear machining, finishing, and inspection machines use the same arbor type and share expanding sleeves, the number of components can be reduced. That means making the most of this model can minimize equipment investment. This is a high-performance and high-profit model pursuing ease of use, reliability, durability and low cost.
TMTPN Pages 29 and 30
Expansibility is 0.5 to 1 mm depending on the diameter of the expanding sleeve, and workpieces with diameters from 5.5 to 79.7 mm can be clamped.
TMTPN mandrels are intended for finish turning and inspection operations. They can also be used for workpieces with a blind hole or short workpieces. With TMTPN-1 to TMTPN-4 mandrels, the unclamping operation is performed manually or by using the drawbar while clamping is done by spring force. With TMTPN-5 to TMTPN-13 mandrels, workpieces are automatically clamped using the drawbar.
Workpieces are posit ioned in the axial direction using the workstop set on the arbor.

Face Drivers
Appropriately equalizing the pressure of the driving pins, which is closely related to workpiece centre offsetting, makes it possible to drive even rough or inclined workpiece end faces.
A number of different types of driving pin have been prepared in order to ensure that all kinds of machining can be catered for.A tailstock force sufficient to drive the driving pins 0.2 mm into the end face of the workpiece is required.Guaranteed concentricity: 0.02 mm (T.I.R.)
The line-up of standard face drivers comprises the following three groups.

Face Drivers
HDDriving diameter: φ7 to 53 mm
These face drivers are suited to finishing and light rough cutting of small to large lots. In addition to gripping with the chuck soft jaws, they can also be directly mounted in the Morse taper of the spindle (MT2 to 6 depending on the size of the face driver).
Driving diameters from 7 mm to 53 mm are covered with five sizes of face driver, enabling the driving of workpieces up to 105 kg.
The pressure of the driving pins are equalized by means of the elastic deformation of the plastic ring, and workpiece end face inclinations of up to 5 degrees and axial differences between individual driving pins of up to 3 mm can be accommodated.

Face Drivers
NDriving diameter: φ24 to 146 mm
These face drivers are used in turning for finishing or roughing operations. They are mainly mounted using a Morse taper and a draw-off nut is supplied when used with high tailstock force. MT4 to MT6 Morse taper shanks are available depending on the face driver size.
However, when higher stability and rigidity during driving are required, the flange mount type is used. (Suitable for spindle nose sizes 6” to 11”.)
Driving diameters from 24 mm to 146 mm are covered with five sizes of face driver, enabling the driving of workpieces up to 560 kg.
The pressure equalization on the driving pins is by means of a hydraulic mechanism which permits a 7 degree angle of inclination of the end face of the workpiece and a 7.5 mm axial difference between the individual driving pins.

Face Drivers
COMBIDriving diameter: φ12 to 138 mm
These face drivers are designed for light machining and medium roughing operations for use on copying lathes and NC lathes.
They are available in a flange mounted type or a chuck mounted type. The flange mounted type is suitable for spindle nose sizes 5” to 15”.
Driving diameters from 12 mm to 138 mm are covered with seven sizes of face driver, enabling the driving of workpieces up to 430 kg.
With COMBI 29-138 face drivers, the pressure is equalized among the driving pins by means of a hydraulic mechanism. This mechanism can accommodate a maximum inclination at the workpiece end face of 7 degrees and a maximum positional difference in the axial direction among driving pins of 3 mm.
COMBI 18 face drivers use plastic rings for pressure equalization and can accommodate a maximum inclination at the workpiece end face of 5 degrees and a maximum positional difference in the axial direction among driving pins of 7.5 mm.
The COMBI face drivers comprise three main sections: the driving head, the driving pins and the center return spring element. Order the three sections separately and assemble them for use.
