1 Introduction

1.1 General Information

This catalog covers ServiceOn Microwave product within the ServiceOn Solution portfolio released during 2006/2007 and supplied by Ericsson AB. It is intended to be an aid when compiling an order or just to give an overview of the management products used for microwave networks.

1.2 ServiceOn Product portfolio

Ericsson can provide management solutions for all management layers: Customized solutions for Business Management, Service Management are provided as services. Off-the-shelf products are available for the Network Management and Element Management layers.

ServiceOn Microwave product is a component of a wider ServiceOn Product portfolio that is offering software products for Element Management and E2E Network Management not only for Microwave but for Optical and Broadband Access networks as well.

In addition we offer standardized northbound management interfaces to include ServiceOn products into an operator’s existing management system, e.g. Ericsson’s OSS-RC.

Adaptations to other, non-Ericsson, network elements as well as system integration to other management systems can be offered as services.

2 ServiceOn Microwave R8

2.1 Product Overview

ServiceOn Microwave is the Element Manager for all Ericsson microwave radio products. It can either be integrated with a Network Management System (NMS) or used as a stand-alone system. From a single screen ServiceOn Microwave enables you to manage your entire fixed and mobile microwave transmission networks. It handles functions such as fault management, performance monitoring, configuration management and security management. Several users can access any part of the network through multiple Workplaces and one Workplace can view information of several servers. ServiceOn Microwave provides a user-friendly graphical interface of the network elements with a map as a background.

ServiceOn Microwave handles MINI-LINK C, MINI-LINK E, MINI-LINK TN, MINI-LINK HC, MINI-LINK BAS, SAU IP/IPEX, MDRS 155 EC and S and E and QXI and ETU 155.

2.2 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Structure

This section gives an overview of the sales and product structure for ServiceOn Microwave R8.

The ServiceOn Microwave sales structure consists of three kinds of products:

• Software packages with

o License Right-to-Use for one or more servers

o License Right-to-connect a number of concurrent Workplace applications to the FE server

o Software media

• Licenses for the Right-to-Connect a number of radios and/or NE in the network to the ServiceOn Microwave.

• Hardware platforms

2.2.1 Software Packages

The ServiceOn Microwave sales structure consists of three basic software media packages: ! The ServiceOn Microwave FE Server Application, which is a

complete Front End Server Application system as well as a Workplace application for Ericsson Microwave Networks. This is where the main functionality for the fault management, performance management and etc resides.

! The ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Server Application, which is an additional mediation server that provides connectivity and network element data pre-processing functionality. This server provides a mediation layer between the microwave network and the Front End Server. Depending on the configuration and size of the managed network can be added one or more servers as the network grows or to cater for requirements on a distributed system.

! The ServiceOn Microwave Workplace Application enables the user to view the information available on the server computer from another computer, and thus manage the Microwave network from different locations. The application can be easily downloaded from the server to a common Windows XP machine.

These software media packages combined with different Right-to-Use and Right-to-Connect Licenses form the different software sales objects.

2.2.2 Right to Connect Licenses There are a number of connection license products that allows the user to connect different types of network elements, such as MINI-LINK E, MINI-LINK TN, MINI-LINK HC, MINI-LINK BAS etc., to the ServiceOn Microwave system.

2.2.3 Hardware Platforms

The hardware platforms are dependent on what role the ServiceOn Microwave will play, either Front End Server or Mediation Server or Workplace. The Servers use SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 Service Pack 3 operating system and the Workplaces use Windows XP Service Pack 2 Professional operating system.

Ericsson can offer well-proven hardware platforms for the ServiceOn Microwave. The hardware products delivered from Ericsson are industry proven computers from Hewlett Packard. The ServiceOn Microwave Workplace Hardware Platform available from Ericsson uses a business desktop PC whiles the ServiceOn Microwave Server has a basic PC Server and depending on the size of the managed network additional memory or CPU is required. The PC Servers are rack-mounted, but there is also the option for floor standing models.

All the country specific articles for the hardware are delivered from Hewlett Packard based on the information on the order to them. The Supply Center at Ericsson must always specify on the order to Hewlett Packard where the hardware will be delivered thus enabling for Hewlett Packard to deliver the proper screens, cables and connectors for the hardware.

2.2.4 Additional order information

When ordering additional licenses to an already delivered and installed ServiceOn Microwave R8 system it is important to always supply the fingerprint information and preferably also the ELSN number with the order. The fingerprint information is available both in the delivery documentation shipped with the ServiceOn Microwave server as well as from one of the system administrators user interfaces, see the System Administrators Guide. The ELSN number is listed in the delivery documentation supplied with the ServiceOn Microwave server.

2.3 ServiceOn Microwave Basic Software Packages

2.3.1 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Front End Server Application

The ServiceOn Microwave Front End Server Application provides the complete Element Management System functionality with Fault Management and Performance Management, Configuration Management and Security Management.

The ServiceOn Microwave Front End Server Application collects and stores centrally all alarms and/or performance and/or Inventory/Configuration data from network elements. Moreover depending on the network size it can connects the network element also via additional ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Server.

The ServiceOn Microwave Server Application also includes MINI-LINK E Adapter software. It is software necessary to act as an interface to MINI-LINK C and MINI-LINK E. This software can due to load distribution reasons be installed either on the same HW Platform as the ServiceOn Microwave FE Server or on separate hardware platforms connected to the ServiceOn Microwave FE Server.

In large networks in addition to the ServiceOn Microwave Front End server might be required to extend the management system adding extra ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Servers, for guidance on dimensioning please contact your Ericsson representative.

2.3.2 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Mediation Server Application

The ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Server Application is used when it is required to manage more than 8000 network element as additional server to the main ServiceOn Microwave Front End server. It provides connectivity and network element data pre-processing functionality: It collects and forward alarms and/or performance data from network elements to the Front End server. The ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Server Application has not graphical user interface since all the Management functionality will be always available from the ServiceOn Microwave Front End

The ServiceOn Microwave Mediation Server Application also includes MINI-LINK E Adapter software. It is software necessary to act as an interface to MINI-LINK C and MINI-LINK E.

According to the network size it can be required to add one or more Mediation server to the main Front End Server, for guidance on dimensioning please contact your Ericsson representative.

2.3.5 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Workplace Application

In many network solutions, the operator wants to operate the network from various places like a Network Management Center or from different Regional Management Centers. In these cases, several workplaces may be needed, e.g. one workplace per management center. The workplace application can be easily downloaded from the front end server machine to the Workplace pc and easily installed. Each Workplace connection requires one ServiceOn Workplace license. Up to 30 Workplaces can be connected to one front end server.

2.3.6 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Standby Server Application

The Cold Standby Server Application can be used to protect the main ServiceOn Microwave site from catastrophic failures such as a fire or more simply a total power loss. Another site can be used to host a stand-by ServiceOn Microwave server. This stand-by ServiceOn Microwave server is activated only in the case of a disaster in the site where the main server is installed. For this reason no watchdog function between the two systems is implemented and the activation of the standby server must take place manually.

Since no continuous replication is made it is important to realize that some data can be lost when switching over to the stand-by ServiceOn Microwave!

It is based on a redundant NMS configuration, providing two servers dedicated to the Application of the same portion of the network. These servers can be installed in different sites and be connected via a DCN.

Note! Do not order any Connection License FAB(s) for the ServiceOn Microwave Standby Application Server. The ServiceOn Microwave Standby Application Server gives the right to use the same adaptations and external interfaces and the same number of concurrent Workplace connection that has been ordered for the ServiceOn Microwave Application Server, free of charge. It is important to attach information about the identity of the ServiceOn Microwave Server to be used as master since the licenses for capacity and optional features attached to that server will be duplicated to this server.

2.3.7 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Inventory application

In many network solutions, the operator wants to get an overview of where in the network which equipment is installed. The inventory application facilitates this work by automatically collecting hardware and software data from the network elements and storing them in a database for later viewing or export to other systems. This application is installed on the ServiceOn Microwave Front End Server. It is required to order a license for the ServiceOn Microwave Front End and also for each Mediation Server machine connected to the SOM FE Server. The application is available on the ServiceOn Microwave server media.

2.3.8 ServiceOn Microwave R8 Configuration Data Management application

In many network solutions, the operator wants to get an overview of how the equipment in the network is configured. The Configuration Data Management application facilitates this work by automatically collecting Configuration data for MINI-LINK E and TN radio terminals. Collected data are stored in the ServiceOn Microwave Configuration data DB. The Configuration Data from the network elements are stored for later viewing or export to other systems. The collection of Configuration data can be either scheduled to run periodically on specific intervals or performed upon immediate request.

This application is installed on the ServiceOn Microwave Front End Server. It is required to order a license for the ServiceOn Microwave Front End and also for each Mediation Server machine connected to the SOM FE Server. The application is available on the ServiceOn Microwave server media.

2.4 ServiceOn Microwave Connection Licenses

This section describes the products for the integration of the different Ericsson Microwave equipment into ServiceOn Microwave R8.

The different adapters come with the ServiceOn Microwave software. They enable the ServiceOn Microwave server to communicate with the MINI-LINK network elements. There are separate adapters for MINI-LINK E, MINI-LINK TN, MINI-LINK HC, MINI-LINK BAS, MDRS 155 EC/S/E/QXI and SAU IP/IPEX. The adapter for MINI-LINK E also covers the MINI-LINK C product.

This MINI-LINK E Adapter software is normally installed on the same server as the rest of the ServiceOn Microwave server software, or could for capacity reasons be installed on one or several additional servers. For further capacity information please contact your Ericsson representative.

All the adapters can be always installed on the ServiceOn Microwave Front End Server or depending on the network size if needed can be installed on the ServiceOn Microwave Mediation server as well.

Apart from the MINI-LINK E Adapter no further equipment or additional software is necessary between ServiceOn Microwave and the network elements.

Ordering of licenses for more Network Elements on an existing adaptation or new adaptations must be regarded as new orders. Due to the differences in complexity among integrated equipment, the possible combination of adaptations and number of NEs on one single ServiceOn Microwave Application Server varies. When doing an upsizing of an existing installation, please check that the ServiceOn Microwave Application Server has enough capacity left or if you need to introduce additional Mediation servers. Please consult your Ericsson representative.

2.4.1 Connection Licenses for MINI-LINK E and MINI-LINK TN Radio Units

This license allows Network Element Management functionality towards MINI-LINK C, MINI-LINK E and MINI-LINK TN.

There is a Right to Connect License for each radio unit that ServiceOn Microwave shall supervise. Each time a MINI-LINK C radio unit, a MINI-LINK E radio unit or a MINI-LINK TN radio unit is purchased and the user has ServiceOn Microwave, the Right To Connect license for the MINI-LINK radio unit for ServiceOn Microwave R8 Server, needs to be purchased as well.

2.4.2 Connection Licenses for MINI-LINK HC Radio Units

This adaptation enables MINI-LINK HC network elements to be managed by ServiceOn Microwave R8. No other equipment is necessary between ServiceOn Microwave and the network element. This adaptation is incorporated in the ServiceOn Microwave Server application, and it always executes on the ServiceOn Microwave Server.

There is a Right to Connect License for each radio that ServiceOn Microwave shall supervise. Each time a MINI-LINK HC radio unit is purchased and the user has ServiceOn Microwave, the Right To Connect license for the MINI-LINK HC radio unit needs to be purchased as well.

There is a Right to Connect License for each radio terminal that ServiceOn Microwave shall supervise. Each time a MDRS 155 EC or S or E or QXI radio unit is purchased and the user has ServiceOn Microwave, the Right To Connect license for the MDRS 155 radio unit needs to be purchased as well.

2.5 ServiceOn Microwave Export Interfaces

In order to connect the ServiceOn Microwave R8 system to higher order management systems there are a number of different export interface licenses available to the ServiceOn Microwave system. There is a selection of different interfaces that can be used. The Export interface will be installed on the SOM FE server as one single point of

2.7 ServiceOn Microwave Software License Upgrades

2.7.1 MINI-LINK Manager 6.1 & 7.1 to ServiceOn Microwave R8 Software Upgrade

Software upgrades from previous versions of MINI-LINK Manager to ServiceOn Microwave R8 are available according to the table below. This is valid for IMA installations where only networks containing MINI-LINK equipment is managed from IMA. If the IMA system also interfaces other equipment, please contact your Ericsson representative to discuss your situation.

The Connection Licenses that the customer has for different MINI-LINK network elements for previous versions of MINI-LINK Manager will also have to be upgraded for ServiceOn Microwave R8.

NOTE! Since ServiceOn Microwave R8 uses software license keys also for the network size that is being managed, i.e. the number of radio units it is managing, it is important to order the right amount of connection licenses.

2.8 ServiceOn Microwave Hardware Platforms

In combination with ServiceOn Microwave software product orders, Ericsson provides the following platforms with the ServiceOn Microwave product already pre-installed on the machine.

Please note that the computer hardware described below can only be ordered together with ServiceOn Microwave software. For purchase of separate hardware components please contact your local Hewlett-Packard dealer.

A basic server platform is available and it is ready to manage network up to 3000 NEs. Moreover depending on the size of the network it could be required to add extra memory and/or CPU and/or HD on this basic platform in order to manage bigger network.

For network size greater than 8000 NEs additional Mediation servers shall be introduced. For more information, please contact your Ericsson representative.

NOTE 1! The required Linux and Windows operative systems are included in the hardware platforms and need not be ordered separately.

NOTE 2! Monitors must be ordered separately.

NOTE 3! The required SW packages must be ordered as separate order items on the same order as the HW platforms chosen to secure installation of the correct SW on the chosen HW.

For a detailed description on the hardware platform configurations, please refer to ServiceOn Microwave Product Catalog Supplement, 1/2135-EN/LZT 712 0229.

Due to the rapid development in computer hardware, Ericsson may have to replace the ordered hardware platform with a newer version than described in this product catalog, if so it will be a platform with equivalent or improved performance in memory size or CPU performance.

6 Warranty

6.1 Software Warranty

Please note that there is no warranty by default. A warranty period must be explicitly stated in the contract. Software products are typically under warranty during a period of 3 months after delivery.

During this warranty period the customer is entitled to:

1. All existing error corrections (service pack, update, upgrade) for the products under warranty

2. Error corrections to all problems reported in writing during the warranty period that are acknowledged by Ericsson as errors in the product.

A customer is not automatically entitled to an upgrade, unless the upgrade is the error correction to a reported problem in the product under warranty.

6.2 Hardware Warranty

The hardware platform products include hardware support from HP for the “first 12 months”. The time at which a HP service engineer has to respond depends on where in the world the hardware is located. The time is at best the next working day. Please consult the global support help-desk at BUBN for exact details.

HP defines the “first 12 months” as follows:

“12 months starting from the date when the system is accepted by the Ericsson personnel at the customer site. Ericsson shall not later than 3 days after installation at site notify seller when the acceptance occurs by sending the signed acceptance statement (part of integration report) to seller. If acceptance has not occurred within 8 weeks from delivery the equipment shall be deemed as accepted.”
