About AEL

Introduction - AEL's product range and beyond

AEL Mining Services is proud to publish our product catalogue showcasing our product offering. This is in line with positioning the group as an added value service provider. At AEL, we always aim to go beyond the product offering to bring you a comprehensive range of services to produce optimum mining productivity.

Enhanced customer focus drives us to bring you cutting edge technology and innovations from our R&D team, which play a crucial role in the development of all our products. Hence you will notice the adjustment of product categories and names. This is in line with our strategy to adopt the AEL name as our master brand, with a product or service descriptor designating a category, and likewise, a descriptor designating a specific product or service. So you will find that some of the brand names that you are accustomed to are rebranded with AEL's name, product or service descriptor and an

alpha-numeric code as the specific product. The rebranding of our products has rationalised our product range to ensure that only the best and latest offerings are included. New names are given prominence and old names will appear in smalls after the new names in this edition. Alongside the formulation of our products, the new AEL Product Catalogue has been put together with meticulous care, and we hope that it is an invaluable reference tool for you.

With safety at the forefront of our product design focus, on behalf of the AEL management team, I would like to wish you a safe and productive mining environment.

Explosives

Wealth Unearthed

AEL's Surface Bulk Explosives are one of the best researched and developed formulations currently in the market. The Eco range of products have been developed to optimise surface mining blasting, this coupled with the use of recycled oil in the formulation has provided an environmentally friendly range of products that attain higher shock energy, hence providing a unique offering.

With a solution to suit almost every application environment – including surface, underground operations and quarries – AEL's highly skilled team, its vast range of products and solutions, equipment and technical resources have made the company an acknowledged leader in this field, both in South Africa, African regions and internationally.

One of the company's ongoing success stories is its Underground Bulk Systems, which, while widely accepted as the industry standard for underground mining, is continuously evolving within the walls of AEL's Research & Development department. New and improved emulsion formulations, pumping systems and value-add services targeted to this industry are constantly being realised as AEL continues in its efforts to improve its offering.

The Underground Bulk System technology and AEL's initiating systems combine to optimise safety while improving blasting efficiencies in a variety of mining, tunnelling and shaft sinking applications. Even under the

most trying blasting conditions, AEL's proven technologies deliver tangible benefits to its customers across the entire mining operation.

Most notably, through the application of innovative technology combined with years of experience in this market, AEL has introduced its “sticky” solution, which offers customers a competitive edge in cost effective blasting and is set to change the blasting landscape as we know it today. Offering customers the ability to place explosives vertically up-hole has changed the way customers view difficult blasting environments and simplified the process substantially.

Through its strategically placed network of regional depots, AEL is able to provide a full range of explosives and services to the most remote customers in African and international markets. This includes a wide range of specifically formulated water gels, emulsions, dry gels and ANFEX solutions.

As with all AEL products, these solutions are supported by a reliable range of initiation systems and blasting services, as well as skilled technical support staff who are on hand to manage customer needs.

AEL provides a range of explosives in both underground and surface mining. AEL is one of the few key manufacturers of a range of specially formulated products that can be effectively placed in vertical up-holes and downholes.

Underground bulk emulsion explosives consist of a base emulsion and sensitiser, which are classified as non-detonable and non-explosive, respectively. UG100 is used in development and stoping whereas UG100S is used primarily in up-hole/ring blasting but can also be used in development. The suffix 'S' in UG100S infers the product is 'sticky', which means it can effectively stick to the lining of blast holes, making it suitable for up-holes. The suffix 'C' in UG100 C infers the product is customised as per specific site/customer requirement/s.

The base emulsion is a honey coloured mixture of two immiscible liquids and an emulsifier. The sensitiser is an aqueous or emulsion product, which, when added to the base emulsion and mixed, creates an explosive in the blast-hole.

Product Services

SERVICES

Down the Hole Services

Prime, Load, Tie and/or Shoot (PLTS)

AEL provides down the hole services on the bench and on time, assisting in measuring holes products and managing quality checks during preparation of the blast. Application-specific explosives produced at the customer's operation is extremely cost efficient, as it allows for total flexibility, as well as last minute changes on the bench to suit the different mine's blasting requirements.

Taking things one step further, while offering the same services as those included in its Down the Hole offering, AEL has upped the ante with its Prime, Load, Tie and/or Shoot (PLTS) service, which addresses the requirements of customers that face resource and construction constraints and therefore require a solution to these problems without the need to hire more or upskill existing members of staff.

Opting for either the Fixed or Per Blasted Unit service, customers have access to AEL expertise on site for the duration of individual blasts.

Deploying AEL's PLTS service empowers customers with higher levels of convenience as AEL's technical teams of expert crews (all accredited to adhere to legal compliance regulations) become an integral part of the production, planning and blasting operations.

Using AEL's full PLTS service means customers have access to hands on involvement on AEL's part as their teams will manage

the stemming of blast holes, mark out and fire rounds and take on the legal accountability of the blasts, in addition to the services offered in its PLT offering.

For customers who wish to hand over the reins of particularly taxing blasting environments, AEL offers its Rock on Ground service, which sees a shift in responsibility (in both drilling and secondary break scenarios) and costs to the AEL team. Customers can feel assured that they will receive a comprehensively planned and designed solution when they opt for the full blasting service.

In return for a cost per unit (using measurements of choice - cubes, metres, etc.) price, customers deploying AEL's Rock on Ground solution are assured of:

Rock on Ground (underground and surface)

• Effective blast preparation;• Thorough charging and timing of operations;• Stock control and security of supply (including ordering, control, storage and stock management);• Labour supply (only accredited and skill staffers) to manage charging and timing of operations;• Zero tolerance where safety is concerned; and• Dedicated and experienced AEL staff who adapt their skill sets to suit the environment while enhancing it with these services.

In applying meticulous care to the deployment of its range of products, AEL offers a range of services to ensure that customers receive optimum blast performance.

AEL assists customers to meet environmental, safety and legal requirements while at the same time achieving blast efficiency. AEL deploys established methodologies that present customers with a wide range of customised options and choices, all of which ultimately lead to successful blasts.
