Splitter array sub-assemblies are assemblies of trays which store and protect optical splitters whereby

incoming and outgoing fibres are stored on separate organiser trays ready for splicing into the network.

The FIST-SASA3 passive optical devices are factory mounted in a closed black-tray housing. The devices

are delivered mounted on a hinging plate together with the organiser trays that store their incoming and

outgoing fibre tails. The assemblies have a base plate that can be clipped onto the UMS (Universal

Mounting System) profile which is built into the various FIST network products, e.g. splicing shelves (FIST-

GSS2), closures (FIST-GCO2),

Provision for fibre, device and cable element identification is integrated in the design either by labelling or

by using coloured fibres. The splitter components are based on planar waveguide technology. For low split

ratios, FBT (fused biconic tapered) technology is used.

CommScope Powered Fibre Cabling System

Passcomm is proud to

introduce Commscope’s

Powered Fibre Cabling System

to the UK.

By utilising a PoE Extender and copper and fibre Hybrid Cabling, PoE distance capability is increased

by up to 30x. This allows you to power and communicate with IP CCTV cameras, IP telephones,

wireless access points, or any connected device up

to 3km away.

When challenged with remote locations, the Powered

Fibre Cabling System is a cost-effective way to

power and communicate with the device in locations

previously out of reach with conventional PoE.

An added benefit is that because the cable is carrying low voltage DC it does not need to be installed by a

qualified electrician.

Powered Fibre Cabling System ReelPasscomm has designed the PFCS Reel for temporary installations, such as

festivals, exhibitions or any events where IP devices are installed. The PFCS Reeled version provides power and connectivity for IP CCTV, Wireless Access

Points and Small Cells up to 3km from power source.

The ‘plug and play’ system also allows users to re-use the system at future

events, making it a cost-effective method for taking power to remote locations.

Simultaneously power and communicate with

network devices. Ideal for Wi-Fi Access Points, HD

CCTV, IP Telephony, ONT’s and small cell devices.

• 30x the distance of PoE

• 1Gb data transfer

• Up to 30 watts power at remote devices

• Eliminate the need for local power sources

• Centrally located UPS

• SELV and NEC Class II compliant

• Highly reliable, low maintenance and easy access

Offer fast deployment and easy customer

connection. The larger IFDB-M floor box offers a clear ‘homes passed’ deployment. The new fibre management system is especially designed for easy

fibre routing and storage. Once all splices are made, connections can be managed by less specialised

installation crews. During the ‘homes connected’

rollout, the customer can easily be connected by

patching connectors to the floor box. The patch panel offers operators ultimate flexibility.

IFDB enclosures are available for

every application: spliced,

connectorised and

plug-and-play.

OLID AdaptersDIAMOND plug-in OLiD

Adapters are components

based on FBG (Fibre

Bragg Grating)

technology and

are suitable for line

testing within fibre optic P2P networks. These can be plugged in

both in the Central Office or in the OTO (Optical Termination Outlet). The Optical Line Identification (OLiD) adapters allow fibre-optics lines to be clearly identified thanks to an FBG code written directly into the fibre and do not interfere with standard telecom P2P bandwidths.

OLID Outlets

DIAMOND OLiD outlets are products that include

OLiD pigtails based on FBG (Fibre Bragg Grating)

technology and are suitable for permanent installation

in fibre optic P2P networks.

OLiD pigtails allow clear Optical Line Identification thanks to an FBG code directly written into the fibre and does not interfere with standard P2P telecom

wavelengths. In a P2P network installation, this

technology is used to identify each fibre line and manage the OLiD information through a database

owned by the network operator. The OLiD can

also be remotely read using the Diamond OLiD

interrogator.

Intelligent ComponentsDiamond OLiD intelligent components are all based on FBG (Fibre Bragg Grating) technology and are suitable

for fibre optic line testing before its activation or to be permanently integrated into an existing P2P network. These can be installed both on the central office and onto the OTO (Optical Termination Outlet) and allow a fast and clear Optical Line Identification to avoid installation errors as well as for easy trouble shooting.

OLID AssembliesDIAMOND OLiD pigtails

and patchords are

products that

include FBG

(Fibre Bragg

Grating)

technology and are

suitable for permanent

integration into fibre optic P2P networks. These can be installed anywhere along a fibre optic line, typically in the central office or in the OTO (Optical Termination Outlet).

OLiD assemblies allow clear Optical Line

Identification thanks to an FBG code directly written into the fibre and does not interfere with standard P2P telecom wavelengths.

An independent provider of broadband services

had identified a cluster of business customers who required the latest broadband connectivity. However,

the distance from the nearest exchange to the industrial estate on which they were located was

too far away to be connected using conventional

fibre optic connectivity. Utilising the latest DiaReach solution these businesses have been successfully

connected and are enjoying affordable, ultra-fast

and ultra-reliable broadband services.

Fibre optic GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network)

technology provides an ideal balance of affordability

and performance to deliver broadband services.

Due to the operating wavelengths used by GPON

equipment, once the optical power budget has

been exceeded due to the length of fibre optic cable, number of optical connectors and equipment

degradation over time, the optical signal cannot be

affordably amplified or re-generated. These factors ultimately limit the distance which can be reached

between the exchange and the end customer.

The GPON network was to be configured using a 64-way split and three connector pairs. Two pairs

were to be located at the exchange for the input and output connections to the fibre optic splitter and one pair at the wall outlet in the customer

premises. Based on the use of the highest power

C+ interfaces, a 30.5dB EoL (End of Life) power

budget was available from the active equipment.

Using low loss fibre optic cable, splitter and SC/APC connectors the maximum distance that could be reached was 23km. Unfortunately, this was 5km too

short for the industrial estate to be reached.

Following extended laboratory trials, it was decided to utilise the latest “loss less” fibre optic connectivity from Diamond which uses actively aligned Titanium

technology as part of the DiaReach solution. To

ensure an efficient operational model, the SC/APC style of interface was retained by using the Diamond

Titanium ULL (Ultra Low Loss) SC/APC connectors and adapters. The result was an increase in range of

2.3km per connector pair, translating to an increased

reach of 6.9km. The initial “problem” industrial estate

was comfortably connected with an additional three

industrial estates now also within reach, 30km from

the PoP.

The DiaReach solution includes all industry standard

connector styles and can be used in environmentally

uncontrolled applications which are exposed to wide temperature fluctuations, significant shock/vibration and at risk of contamination through the use

of shuttered connector types such as E-2000 and

F-3000.

DiaReach enables remote broadband connections

of SuperSleeve sealing material, which combines

the strength and durability of composite design

with proven heat-shrink technology. SuperSleeve

sealing material is composed of several layers of

specially blended polymers, adhesives and fibre-reinforcing layer. The fibre-reinforcing layer provides excellent mechanical strength and eliminates the

propagation of localised damage that can result

from overheating or other errors in installation.

Once the XAGA closure sleeve has been installed,

the composite design of the SuperSleeve sealing

material provides superior mechanical protection

from forces such as impact, abrasion, UV light and

atmospheric contamination.

The VX-connection

module provides

a connection point

between an exchange-side cable pair and

a distribution pair.

It incorporates a

5-point plug in module

to provide continuity and

a range of other options

including protection.

Removal of the plug-in module does not disturb

wire connections but makes contacts to them

available for testing to both sides of the network. It is

especially recommended for:

• Outdoor connections where the environmental

conditions are extremely aggressive

• Terminations where user development

characteristics require future flexibility in terms of the type of protection or filtering capabilities

The connection modules are designed for mounting

on a standard DIN rail and can therefore be

mounted in a variety of housings in whatever

quantities are required. The small footprint (2cm

wide) ensures a compact product.

SimplexSimplex entry seals effectively seal around

and support conduits

and cables in through-

penetration openings or

core drilled penetrations, such

as building entrances or conduit openings. Simplex entry seals prevent leakage around conduits and

cables entering structures of all kinds. Because

of their split design, these plugs are retrofitable, removable and reusable.

Benefits:• Watertight and airtight

• Simple installation around in-place cables

• Excellent conduit or cable support• Stainless steel fasteners

• Ideal for manholes, buildings and cabinets

The service life of cable, splices, manhole hardware

and electronics can be increased when contact with

moisture is reduced. Underground structures can

be accessed more quickly and easily when they are

isolated and sealed from the inflow of water. Simplex plugs feature standard sized fasteners made of

stainless steel, easily installed with widely available

tools and are sized to fit the most commonly used core-drill bits, conduits and conduit termination

fittings.

BiplexCommScopes’ Biplex plugs seal 1 or 2 cables in a (nominal) 50mm O.D. (with 4.6mm wall) duct.

• All plastic construction-corrosion proof

• Water tight

• Simple to install

• Removable and reusable

• Chemically resistant

• No special tools required

on installation

• Protects cable from sharp corners at the duct entry

QuadplexQuadplex duct plugs are split plugs for sealing around,

organizing and supporting up to three subducts,

pipes, or cables. These plugs are designed for use in

round openings such as conduits, conduit fittings and core-drilled wall penetrations. Effective, long-term

watertight and air-tight seals, prevent mud, backfill and slurry from entering handholes, manholes and

buildings during the construction process. The

service life of cable, splices, manhole hardware

and electronics can be increased when contact with

moisture is reduced. Flooded underground structures

are accessed more quickly when they are isolated

from the ingress of water, mud and slurry.

Benefits:• Split design for retrofitting without disassembly• Anchor and organize subducts or multiple duct

systems

• Eliminate duct-edge abrasion to cables

• Expandable gasket allows for expansion and contraction of cables or subducts without leakage

• Excellent for supporting cables at the tops of riser

Hole plugsDesigned to temporarily or permanently

seal cable port or subduct openings

in Simplex, Triplex and Quadplex sealing devices, hole plugs are made

of solid polypropylene plastic and

larger sizes feature pull tabs

for easy removal. After an

initial cable installation,

additional cables may be

required in the future. To

accommodate this need, a multi-

port plug equipped with hole plugs is

recommended to allow for future cabling and proper

sealing without replacing the plug. Depending on the

new cable size, a Bushing Sleeve Adaptor might be

needed to complete the installation.

Blank Duct PlugsBlank duct plugs effectively seal conduits to reduce

the cost of cable placement and maintenance in

new underground construction projects and routine

work. These plugs are economical because they are

removable and reusable.

Duct Plug Durability:

Manufactured from high-impact plastic components,

combined with durable elastic gaskets, Blank plugs

are corrosion proof and effective as long-term or

temporary seals.

Economy and Safety:

Both water-tight and gas-tight, Blank duct

plugs prevent the flow of water and the costly sedimentation of duct banks and conduit systems

while confining problems of dangerous vapours to their source.

Convenience:

Each Blank plug is equipped with a rope tie device

to allow the securing of pull rope to the plug’s back

compression plate. Installers needing to prove the

duct or place pull rope can attach the rope to the

back compression plate of the plug and store excess slack rope behind the plug within the conduit system

for future use.

Bushing Sleeve AdaptorsDesigned to adapt to the CommScope Simplex, Triplex or Quadplex plug’s hole sizes to different cable or subduct sealing ranges, Bushing Sleeve

Adaptors allow installers to customize our duct

sealing product range to project-specific needs. When cables of different sizes occupy the same

conduit, Bushing Sleeves, rather than expensive custom plugs, solve the problem.

RoxtecA Roxtec sealing module consists of

two halves and has

removable layers

and a center core.

Thanks to the multi-

diameter technology,

one single module

can seal a cable

of several different

diameters simply by

peeling layers from the

module halves until a

perfect fit is achieved.

Made from EPDM

rubber Roxylon a module is flexible enough to shape itself

around a cable. Yet,

at the same time it is

rigid enough to retain its basic resilience and integrity

against physical and chemical exposure.

The Roxtec sealing system and its Roxylon have an approved record from the majority of certifying

authorities around the world for withstanding

exposure to a number of hazards and providing safety such as:

• fire resistance, halogen free, bromide free

• gas and water pressure resistance

• pull-out resistance

• stress load relaxation resilience

• UV resilience

• Blast load resistance

• Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

Roxtec modules are used in frames and fitted around cables, as spare capacity or as compensation. The

modules can accommodate a cable diameter range

from 3.0 to 99.0 millimeters.

Roxtec safety seals are used extensively in the London Underground network.

To discuss any products from the full Roxtec range,

please call Passcomm Sales on 01925 821333.

End Caps - Cold ShrinkThe 3M Cold Shrink EC-Series End

Caps environmentally seal and mechanically protect

exposed cable ends using no tools, mastics or tapes. The 3M Cold Shrink EC-Series End Caps install

quickly and cleanly without flame or grease. Cold Shrink end caps are factory expanded on removable inner-supporting plastic cores. Once the end cap is

positioned for installation around the end of a cable,

the supporting core is unwound and removed. With

the core removed, the live-memory action of the

specially formulated material shrinks the end cap into

position. The constant radial pressure of the Cold

Shrink material ensures a durable environmental

seal. The Cold Shrink material resists abrasion,

fungus, acids and alkalis and retains its resiliency

for years. Freezing or overheating due to ambient

temperatures encountered during shipping or storage

does not impair the end caps.

CommScope snap-on markers are convenient and

easy to use. These markers are supplied on a ‘wand’

applicator that simplifies and reduces installation time and saves on the cost of marking. Snap-on markers

are designed to stand the test of time, preventing

costly re-work before the life of the equipment ends.

This is why CommScope snap-on markers are

found today in power stations, oil refineries, offshore platforms and other major projects around the world.

Features and Benefits• Snap-on markers are the perfect way to

permanently and rapidly mark cables, wires, leads

and cores after termination and installation

• Easy to alter identification on cables that are already marked

• Secure grip for positive fixing to cable• The high elasticity of the marker enables all types

of installation and conduction material to be

permanently marked without damage

• Applicator has a patented slit to prevent over

expansion of the marker during application• Made from polyoxymethylene that guarantees

strength, dimensional stability, low moisture

absorption and resistance to chemicals

• Resistant against oils, cleaning agents, fuels and

alkaline solutions

• Zero-halogen material

• Ten sizes for cable diameters 0.04” to 0.75”

• Color-coded option

The Passcomm BOP is a high quality, lightweight

exterior Box On Post specially designed for trackside telecomm and signaling use.

Both the BOP enclosure and post are manufactured

from corrosion resistant chrome steel (3CR12) of

all welded construction. The use of high chromium,

corrosion resistant steels throughout the construction,

provides operational life expectancy in excess of 20 years with limited maintenance.

The finish is polyester powder coated colour BS4800:00A07 and is provided for decorative

purposes.

The BOP enclosure offers three DIN rail vertical

mountings, each of which provides a maximum capacity of up to 30 Mondragon VX connectors. Each

DIN rail vertical mounting is provided with a label

holder for identification purposes. Wire management is maintained by the use of both betaduct trunking

and evenly spaced jumper rings. All enclosure metal

parts are bonded. The enclosure door offers 3 point

locking and has a full door length stainless steel

piano hinge for added security. The door also opens

to 180° for easy access. The roof is angled back,

which aids in the prevention of water dripping into the

enclosure whilst the door is open. The base blanking

plate is pre-drilled with three main cable ports and 10

spur cable ports.

Passcomm BoP Range OverviewThe Box on Post is a Passcomm manufactured product, originally designed for lineside telephone connectivity applications where a full or half loc cabinet is not required (i.e. for applications that require 30

pairs or fewer). Due to its size and weight, it is easier and quicker to deliver to site and install.

Following the success of the Copper BoP, Passcomm has since developed a Fibre BoP which is designed

to house PoE switchgear that powers VoIP lineside telephones.

Passcomm BoP-DThe Passcomm BOP-D is a deeper and wider variant

of the standard BoP. The BOP-D features a pitched

roof, designed to offer protection against solar gain.

The Passcomm BOP-D is designed to accommodate

up to 2x Cisco IE4000 switches. The Passcomm BOP-D can be pre-kitted and and

pre-tailed to your project specific requirements.

Passive optical LANs are significantly faster, more efficient, sustainable, cost effective, scalable and more adaptable to future requirements than traditional

copper-based infrastructure. Optical LANs remove

the distance constraints, power requirements and

heat dispersion issues associated with copper. They

deliver increased network security, performance and

operational efficiency. There is no doubt that this is the future of network

connectivity.

Passcomm has supplied the passive equipment

to connect 1000+ customers to Optical LANs that

deliver five key advantages over legacy copper LAN technologies.

• Simple

• Secure

• Scalable

• Stable

• Smart

SimpleOptical LANs are simpler than copper. There is

less equipment and cabling to house and maintain.

Centralized management makes changes easier,

faster and more cost effective. Fibre has the ability

to converge multiple services into one medium

dramatically simplifies operations. Optical LANs remove the need for expensive, power hungry switchgear.

SecureOptical LAN’s are immune to electromagnetic, radio

frequency and electromagnetic pulse interference

and far less susceptible to intrusion than copper.

ScalableOptical LANs’ endpoint capacity surpasses copper

by a factor of four. Single-mode fibre cable used in optical LANs can reach 30 kilometres without signal

regeneration. Superior density and reach, combined

with lower installation costs, mean maximum scalability.

StableOptical LAN’s typically deliver carrier-class 99.999

percent availability. Redundancy and distribution

network options further protect availability. And optical

cabling is futureproof, with the bandwidth to support

migration to next-gen technologies without requiring replacement.

SmartFewer electronics, less cabling, no telecom closets

and lower power consumption mean reduced network

costs. Greater density and reach along with future-

proof cable bandwidth mean scalability to meet future

needs.

Overview – What is Passive Optical LAN?Passive Optical LAN is a revolution in local area networking!

Sometimes referred to as Fibre LAN, PO-LAN is the future of local area connectivity. Using new, pliable fibre optic cables PO-LAN can replace or even work alongside current copper LAN infrastructures.

Based around GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology P-LAN provides a secure, future proof,

resilient, low management high performance network.

Over the last ten years GPON technology has been deployed to millions of users around the world to

provide voice, video and data services. This highly efficient network architecture ensures that a wide range of services can be accessed by users as quickly as possible (at the speed of light) without adversely

impacting other users.

Applications Multi-floor Office/Building Complex PO-LAN is well positioned to provide bandwidth relief as new

applications to the desktop continue to explode and the emerging “Cloud-Computing” environment

threatens to further restrict already clogged

LAN networks. Similarly, new graphic intensive

applications, video sharing and editing all place new

constraints on the Legacy Copper Switched LAN.

Multi-building Campus Multi-Building Campus

environments, where distance and operational cost

are major considerations for delivering voice, video

and high speed data, PO-LAN is the optimal solution!

Multi-floor: Hotel In the Hospitality Industry where space is limited and demands for High Speed

Internet Access, Voice, Television and Security

monitoring is increasing, PO-LAN provides optimal

performance characteristics for the preferred LAN

infrastructure.

Multi-building – Harsh – Environment - Industrial/Factory Complex) Developed for Industrial, Factory or other harsh environments where high speed data,

voice and security cameras are mandatory, but

space, cooling and power are limited as PO-LAN

provides Passive Optical Splitters – suited for any

environment.

Why Fibre Vs. Copper? • Advances in technology never stop moving, from

simple handheld personal devices, to computers,

to company network architectures

• Keeping pace with these advances has led to

networks packed with an array of racks, wires,

patch panels and switches

• Designing a new network infrastructure or

refurbishing your existing network is a significant investment. Traditional network designs carry

an array of considerations; capacity, efficiency, security, scalability, capital investment and green

initiatives

• Fibre has demonstrably superior performance

• Smaller or Reduced Footprint (Equipment is much

smaller)

• Fibre is Greener than Copper

• Greater Distance (up to 12 miles)

• Fibre is Less Expensive than Copper-wire • Unmatched Security

• Fibre has a much smaller Cable Diameter

(Significantly harder to tap than copper) • Fibre has no cross-talk

A high performance fibre optic network has been successfully

installed and commissioned within

an old four storey building in central

London, which initially housed

forty five small businesses in self-contained, secure offices. Using passive optic equipment

supplied by Passcomm, the network

provides secure, future proof high speed connectivity

for voice, video and data traffic to each individual business.

The user devices such as PCs, lap tops, tablets

and smartphones are connected to the service via

dedicated copper or wireless interfaces.

Each business is provided with a specific guaranteed symmetric connection speed of between 30Mb/s and 1Gb/s depending upon their specific needs. Since the initial installation, a further fifteen businesses have been added onto this network with a projected

Case Studies BBC UGLI Building – Central London

total of eighty businesses when the building is fully

re-occupied.

By using OLT’s and ONU’s, all switchgear is removed

from the network. This has significant effects on the network design and costs.

• Up to 75% reduction in CapEx costs• Removes requirement for Air Conditioned Comms

Rooms (up to 85% saving on power).

• Space requirements cut by up to 92%.

• Passive equipment does not require mains power

OLT An optical line terminal (OLT) is a device that is located at the service provider’s central office and is the endpoint of a passive optical network (PON).

The Building Blocks of an Optical LAN

Fibre Network CableThe cable used in P-LAN networks is

bend-insensitive G657A1+ All-Wave. This provides

low-loss and great usability for installers.

ONT and Optical SplitterOptical Network Terminal (ONT) is a device that is located at the customer/end-user location. The fibres are terminated at this location and each ONT provides Gigabit connectivity to the end-user. The optical splitter

can be 32 or 64-way depending on the number of end-users.

Tunnel Signage Passcomm, in conjunction with SPIE UK has developed a range of signage products for the tunnel

environment.

This includes; Wayfinders, Exit Signs, Tri Signs and Secret Signs. All signs are supplied with the necessary control panels associated with the complex SCADA systems that are used to run and maintain the safe traffic management of the tunnel. All materials used are selected in full consultation with the client to suit the environment and the specific project. This can include stainless steel, high impact glass-reinforced polyester and Low Smoke Zero

Halogen. Signs can either be wall mounted or recessed in tunnel reveals.

Incorporated in all Passcomm signage is the latest low-wattage, long-lifespan LED technology.

Passcomm Design and Engineering staff are available to visit project site locations to ensure local

conditions are accounted for in any designs, as well as assessing local power requirements. This also

allows Passcomm to design and manufacture to a schedule that creates minimal disruption in the tunnel

environment, during install and maintenance.

To discuss a tunnel signage project, call Passcomm Sales today on 01925 821333.

Passcomm has developed a slimline Wayfinder Emergency Exit sign, powered by the latest LED Technology, offering in excess of 50,000 continuous hours life.

The sign enclosure is manufactured to IP66

specification, in brushed stainless steel 316. Commonly the location of the sign demands a

shallow profile specifically designed to allow the enclosure to be sited near pedestrian walkways,

removing sharp edges and end faces. The sign has

been tested for light output in Candelas per metre

squared with a calibrated light meter to 600cd/m2.

These signs use less electricity than conventional

fluorescent fittings. These LED signs combine a large number of bright light-emitting diodes to illuminate the

sign from inside.

The sign detail is mounted on the inside face of

the clear polycarbonate sheet so as to remove any

possible damage from the aggressive cleaning

process.

Enclosure Specifications: • Enclosure IP rating: IP66

• Enclosure Material: 316 Stainless Steel, brushed

finish • Standard Enclosure Dimensions: (h):520mm x

(w):1230mm x (d)35mm • Weight (kitted): approximately 18kg• Graphics to: dft drawing NP2711.01

• Power consumption: approximately 32W (double aspect sign)

• LED lifetime: 50,000 hours continuous lighting

• Easy installation and removal of LED assembly

Mains supply voltage: 230-240Vac

Passcomm also manufactures Exit Signs with the following features:

• Triangular

• Reduced depth Triangular

• White Noise – directional sound is a broad band,

multi frequency broadcast that is easily located

by the human ear. The unit assists in identifying

evacuation routes in dense smoke

• Down-lighter

Secret SignsPasscomm can manufacture any of the above

signage in ‘secret sign’ polycarbonate.

This provides the option for the signs to remain

unpowered until required, eliminating unnecessary

and potentially distracting messages within the tunnel

environment.

Due to their power consumption, the Secret Signs

significantly reduce maintenance costs.

• Low maintenance – greater than 5 years lamp

life
