prolonged levels of indoor air pollution can cause

the air we breathe is vital for our well-being and health. exposure to a poor indoor environment over long lengths of time could lead to a number of health issues such as:• Headaches• Fatigues• Nausea• Flu• Respiratory issues such as asthma

• Mould growth which is an and which can lead to respiratory issues.

• Condensation - The construction of more airtight homes leads to the reduction of natural ventilation and air infiltration within the property. if ventilation is not correctly designed and installed the condensation levels could increase resulting in damp patches on walls.

• Dust Mites - humidity levels within a property are directly linked to the levels of house dust mites and dust mite allergens. By controlling the humidity within the home, dust mites are less able to breed helping asthma sufferers to breathe more easily.

The IP Code (or International Protection rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating) consists of the letters ip followed by two digits and an optional letter. it classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects and water in electrical enclosures.

30.000 hLong Life LL-Long Life - The Long Life 30,000 label certifies that the unit is installed with long life bearings and these are guaranteed to operate for 30,000 hours continuously, without mechanical failure.

TM eS-energy Saving - The ES label indicates that the appliances is fitted with an EC Brushless motor and provides high energy savings, thanks to the wide range of speed regulation options and significantly reduced energy consumption levels.

a-automatic - The integral shutters positioned behind the front grille automatically open and close slowly when the unit is operated. The shutters are made from shockproof, anti-UV-treated plastic.

T-Timer – the unit is activated via a switch. When the switch is turned off the unit continues to operate for a period of between 3-20 minutes, depending on the timer setting. Current regulations state a minimum of 15 minute over run where there is no opening window.

PIR-Passive Infra Red - The unit activates when a persons presence is detected within the area (the sensor is located in an inclined position to increase sensitivity), and continues to operate during the person’s presence. When the person leaves the room, the unit will continue to run for between 3 -20 minutes, depending on the timer setting.

THCS-Humidity Control – this unit features a relative humidity sensor that is factory set at 60%. When relative humidity exceeds this level, the unit automatically starts up. this threshold setting can however be modified by the installer to 4 levels: 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%. When the relative humidity drops below the setting the unit will continue to run for between 3 -20 minutes depending on the timer setting. the unit can also be overridden and operated via a switch if the relative humidity is below the threshold setting.

12V – this indicates that the unit is Selv and is supplied via a voltage transformer, available separately.

P-Pull Cord - The unit is operated via the integral pull cord.

TP-Timer Plus – the unit is equipped with an intelligent timer which includes variable delay start and fan overrun. the unit can also be set to automatically activate the fan for a pre set length of time at variable intervals up to every 24 hours.

Background ventilation and Intermittent extract FansMechanical extract fans, selected by their performance depending on their location, must be positioned in all the “wet” rooms. Background

ventilators, are required in all rooms sized by the number of bedrooms and occupancy.

Intermittent extractcalculate intermittent extract rates from table 5.1A.

Background ventilatorsstep 1 Determine the total equivalent ventilator area - See Table A below for a dwelling with

any design air permeability. As an alternative, the guidance in table B below may be

followed for a dwelling designed to an air permeability leakier than (>) 5m3/(h.m2) at

50 pa which recommends less ventilation provisions, but see the cautionary advice in

paragraph 5.10.

step 2 Follow (i)or (ii) as appropriate depending on the number of storeys:

(i) For multi- storey dwellings, and single storey dwellings more than four storeys

above ground level:

use the total equivalent ventilator area from Step 1.

(ii) For single - storey dwellings up to and including the fourth - storey above ground

level:

Add a further 1000mm2 to the total equivalent ventilator area from Step 1,

preferably shared between several rooms.

step 3 for dwellings which have a single exposed facade, or at least 70% of the equivalent

area is designed to be on the same facade, cross- ventilation is not possible, or is limited, and additional ventilation provisions are

recommended. In this case background ventilators should be located at both high and low positions in the facade to provide enhanced

single - sided ventilation. The total equivalent area as described in Steps 1 and 2 above should be provided at the high position(typically

1.7 m above floor level) for all dwelling types and all storey heights. In addition, ventilators having the same total equivalent area should

be provided at least 1.0m below the high ventilators as shown in diagram 2b. Single sided ventilation is most effective if the dwelling is

designed so that the habitable rooms are on the exposed facade, and these rooms are no greater than 6m in depth.

A continuous mechanical central extract system is to be positioned in the loft or cupboard space, or decentralised single fans. they are selected by their performance depending on their locations, the number of bedrooms, occupancy level and dwelling floor area, and must be positioned in all the “wet” rooms. Background ventilators, if employed, should be used in all habitable rooms.

system 4Continuous mechanical Supply and extract ventilation with Heat Recovery (mvHR)A continuous balanced mechanical central supply and extract system is to be positioned in loft or a cupboard space. An integral heat exchanger recovers a large percentage of heat energy that would have otherwise been lost. in employing this type of system, there is no need to install background ventilators in the dwelling.

Continuous Supply and extract

step 1 for any design air permeability, determine the whole dwelling ventilation supply rate from table 5.1B.

As an alternative where the designed air permeability is intended to be leakier than (>) 5m3/(h.m2) at 50 Pa, allow for infiltration for all dwelling types by subtracting from the whole dwelling ventilation supply rate from Table 5.1B: 0.04l/(s.m3) x gross internal volume of the dwelling heated space (m3), but see the cautionary advice in 5.10.

step 2 calculate the whole dwelling extract rate at maximum operation by adding the individual room rates for ‘minimum high rate’ from table 5.1A.

step 3 the required air flow rates as as follows:

Maximum Extract Rate (boost) is the greater step of 1 and 2 above.

the Minimum individual room extract rates sholuld be at least those given in table 5.1A for minimum high rate.

step 4 No Background ventilators are required with System 4.
