HARNESSES

RNESSES

The Merlin full body harness has been designed for industrial rope access and technical rescue, where personnel wish to have either a wrap around or step in fit, with a pull over the head style. The wrap around fit has been constructed into all the SAR multi purpose harness range. This innovative pattern includes two independent front waist attachment points in different profiles. This is so the rope access and rescue technicians can utilise any type of rope descender without twisting the system.

The Merlin is also fitted with upper ‘D’ connection points at the front and rear for safety back-up and fall arrest attachment. The laminated foam and shaped shoulder pads give additional comfort to the user.

The Merlin harness comes in two different forms, the standard and Merlin Tech which has the addition of a fixed chest ascender. This gives an advantage to those who employ ‘frogging’ techniques for ascending.

The Kestrel fall arrest harness has been upgraded and now comes in two styles with four colour choices. The harness has a front and rear attachment point for fall arrest connection. We recommend the front be used for fall arrest. The side ‘D’s on the Kestrel 4 can be folded back when not in use, therefore reducing risk of inadvertent snarling.

Quick clip buckles can be fitted on the leg straps and fixed padding can also be fitted to any of the Kestrel range when ordered. The padding is made of sandwich laminated foam to give added comfort when donning, this also makes the harness easier to fit as the padding takes any twists from the webbing.

Fitting is normally wrap around but can be left fastened at the chest/sternum connection to give a quicker fitting. Shoulder adjustment buckles use two square link buckles and once adjusted to fit the user will not slip during everyday use.

KESTRELFALL ARREST HARNESS

The Raptor 4 & 6 full body harness has been specifically designed for rope access and technical rescue personnel who prefer a multi purpose full body without a restrictive chest strap. The Harrier sit harnesses have been re designed and upgraded and are rated for use up to 150Kg. They are designed for rope access and technical rescue service personnel who prefer a separate sit and chest harness format to that of a multi purpose full body harness.

The Harrier, like the Merlin and Raptor has the innovative pattern that includes two independent front waist attachment points in different profiles so that rope access and rescue technicians can utilise any type of rope descender without twisting the system.

The Harrier has a wrap around fitting system for ease of donning and safety which stops the harness getting soiled, as is common with the step in type harness. The QC style has quick clip buckles on the leg loops and can also be made with QC buckles on the waist if so required.

The Hawk sit harness has been created for military and mountain rescue personnel and those who require the security and durability of a very robust harness as an alternative to that of a rock climbing harness.

Quality materials, design, construction and simplicity in fitting make this the supreme personal issue sit harness.

The emphasis in design was placed upon strength, stability, light weight and comfort. The Hawk delivers in all these fields and is perfect for anyone who needs to ‘hang around’. The wrap around fitting is also ideal when wearing crampons etc., but if preferred you may keep the buckles fastened to give step in fitting.

The Kite chest harness in combination with a threaded link sling have been designed to be used with any of the SAR sit harness range for added comfort and protection. The Kite can be utilised for climbing, mountaineering, rescue, intervention and technical access.

The harness has front loops for use with a link sling to keep the user in an upright sit position when connected to the sit harness to give a full body harness format conforming to EN361.

The Kite can be used for connecting a chest ascender by using the 25mm front strap threaded through the top hole of the ascender and the bottom of the ascender connected to the sit. The chest ascender can be fitted over the link sling and a karabiner in the chest loops giving the ability to be used in an instant.

The link sling can be fitted and kept in position and is easily removable to swap it out, the link sling keeps the user in an upright sit position when connected to the sit harness to give a full body harness format conforming to EN361.

The Kite & Kite QC chest harness must NOT be used on its own.

The Merlin sit harness is purposely designed for climbing walls, outdoor centres and youth groups. Based on the Hawk without the padding, it’s a ‘step in’ style sit harness with the buckles permanently interlocked so they cannot be removed or incorrectly fastened by untrained users. It also has different coloured leg loops and waist belt for ease of fitting and checking by supervisors or instructors.

When used in conjunction with the Merlin chest harness and link sling can be made into a full body harness format for more upright positioning.

The Merlin sit harness is tested to the more robust industrial standard for sit harnesses rather than the climbing standard for greater peace of mind. It is made from the same special polyester webs as our other harnesses for extra strength, abrasion resistance and UV resistance.

The Merlin chest harness and link sling have been designed to be used with any of the SAR sit harnesses for added comfort and protection to form a full body harness format. The Merlin chest harness and link sling have been designed to be used for climbing and mountaineering.

The front loops can be used with a link sling or karabiner threaded through and then connected to the sit harness to keep the user in an upright sit position when connected.

Our Dog Harness is now a well tested and proven design with updated materials which is very popular with search and rescue dog handlers. The harness comes in two sections for ease of fitting and flexibility of use for the dog with both sections being fully adjustable. The front/body harness has a padded chest for comfort and agility, with separate detachable leg loops for additional security.

The harness can be winched from the main lifting/lowering point with or without the leg loops dependent upon size, shape and weight of dog.

The Rescue Strop has the design of a split chest enabling the strop to be threaded around and under the casualty’s arms to reduce the chance of disturbing the surrounding ground.

The adjustment loops on the chest give it a large range of sizes from very young children to adults. The adjustment on the legs allows the wearer to be in a range of positions from vertical to sitting. The Rescue Strop is ideal for lifting into a sit position a person who is hanging in a fall arrest harness thereby stopping the possibility of suspension trauma. Also used for lifting people from water in a horizontal position and therefore reducing the possibility of shock.

The Bungee Ankle harness is a proven and tested pattern. The harness has been re-modelled and enhanced by utilising modern materials.

As there is no European standard for this type of restraint harness, we have fully tested it to a static load which is higher than the 15kN that is required for other products. However, as this is a restraint/positioning harness only, we advise that it is backed up to a harness that is fully compliant to the standards within the country being used. (e.g. EN361).

The Tri-Sling was developed after a request for a product that would comply with EN354, the industrial standard for lanyards and not just the lower standards EN566 for sports climbing and EN795-B industrial anchor. It carries all three standards so that any client who has a certain standard written into their files for use has a choice.

It was developed for multi use in outdoor centres. It can be connected to the user by any connecter conforming to EN362 or EN12275-Q or it can be choke hitched via the protection covered loop. It can be used to clip back into its ring forming a loop in one leg of the lanyard.

The sling is made with 18mm polyester webbing and a polished alloy ring.

We have upgraded our Wire Anchor Strop, it now conforms to an additional standard and can be made from two different materials.

Galvanised steel wire:It has a breaking load of 27kN and a safe working load of 270kg.

Stainless steel wire: This wire has a slightly lower breaking load of 25kN, with a safe working load of 250kg.

Our Rope Adjustment Device (RAD) evolved from our A-B Descender. Both multi functional devices, the RAD is smaller, lighter and has been tested to and conforms with more European standards for a wider variety of applications.

This means that the RAD can be used as a stand alone device in many more environments, therefore reducing the need for multiple devices and increased cost.

The RAD fully conforms to EN12841:2006-C, EN358:1999 & EN15151:2012 Type 6.

The swivel plate screw can be removed and the device opened for changing rope if inadvertently damaged during work, or for fitting onto a descent rope.

The RAD can be fitted with any length of rope you require. The rope used is our 11mm with a sewn eye at one end and a sewn block/stopper at the fly end. Any connector from our range complying to EN362 can be fitted to the rope.

The Dee Steel maillon was initially used by the sport & caving industry as a front connection to their sit harness. It allows the joining of the two webbing loops and also allows multiple connections of other mailions or karabiners.

The Double Action Scaffold Hook is the ideal connector for use on lanyards. The large gate opening makes this a versatile connector when working around steel work.

The Pear Steel maillon is used as an added connection to the front of sit harness, giving a second or third independent connection point.

It is also used in certain techniques in rescue for a multi connection point and its shape gives an added advantage to using the Dee or Delta maillon.

The Triple Action Snap Hook is fitted with a third action catch for increased safety. This triple-action hook is ideally suited for lanyards where triple action connectors are required. The safety heel further reduces the risk of accidental opening and the ‘Blind’ nose helps to prevent rope snagging.

The Oval Steel maillon is a long opening maillon and is possibly the most used style of all the maillon products. This maillon will cover most requirements in rope access and rescue, and can be used in lots of different areas.

The Steel Delta maillon is used mainly in rescue and rope access. It is used for three way loads, for equalizing two single pulleys to work as twin, to fix a pulley to an ascender for using it as a pulley brake and as a lifting link on stretcher straps to mention just a few.

Our A-B Descender has been designed for technical rope access, intervention, and rescue. It has a handle style control that can be used in two modes, either squeeze the handle or flip it down to give extra leverage when required. There is a spring fitted to help keep the handle close to the body when not in use and is also fitted with a panic grab brake.

The A-B fully conforms with two European standards, these are; EN12841-C rope adjustment device (descenders) and EN341-B descenders for rescue. The two standards are very different, EN12841-C covers the device only, so that it can be used with different types of kernmantle rope. EN341 is the standard for a descent rescue/egress system and any system conforming to this standard must be used with the type of rope with which it was tested.

Any strength quoted is when the product is new and is in accordance with the appropriate standards.

The Pro ALLP Tech was the result of years of technical development and research and was originally designed for technical rescue. The screw control system of the Pro ALLP Tech has very fine speed control which allows the technical rope user a finer management of descent, especially in rescue.

The Pro ALLP Tech was the first descender to be tested to prEN 12841-C rope adjustment devices. Most personnel are lead to think that EN341 is the standard for descenders but this is incorrect. EN341 is descenders for rescue, which is a system, not an item of equipment, to fully conform with this standard the descender must be sold with the correct rope as a package.

The Pro ALLP Tech was tested under laboratory conditions and was proven to be compatible with low stretch ropes of 10.5 to 12.7mm from one manufacturer, in compliance with EN1891. The Pro ALLP Tech was also tested with a 200kg mass at F.F.1 1m.

We strongly recommend the that users be trained in the many applications of the Pro ALLP Tech.

Our RAD (Rope Adjustment Device) evolved from our A-B Descender. Both multi functional devices, the RAD is smaller, lighter and has been tested to and conforms with more European standards for a wider variety of applications.

This means that the RAD can be used as a stand alone device in many more environments, therefore reducing the need for multiple devices and increased cost. The RAD is capable of being used in many environments as a belay device or as a descender.

The Clean Cam Ascender is made for continuous use in the most arduous of conditions. The frames are formed using high strength aluminium plate and it has a stainless steel self clean cam. The handle grip is of soft moulded nylon.

This product comes as right and left handed. Right handed having a orange body & the left handed having a black body. The Right handed ascender is also available in all back.

The Figure of 8 descender is used for lowering or abseiling. Manufactured from high strength aluminium alloy. It has a large eye with room for an extra karabiner and ears to prevent the rope rolling into a locked position. The figure of 8 does twist the rope and is best used on firm rather than soft rope. It is not recommended for use with rope that comes straight out of a rope bag.

It should only be used with a back-up safety lock, such as a Rocker or Prussic style rope lock.

The chest croll was designed to fit flat against the body around the upper stomach/lower sternum area of the chest. Use along with a handled ascender and foot loop for ascending rope.

It can be connected to any of our harness range. Our Kite chest harness has the required connection strap included in its design to fit into the top strap hole of the Croll without the need for an extra shoulder strap.

The Ascender is made for continuous use in the most arduous of conditions. The frames are machined from high strength extruded aluminium and have a stainless steel cam.

This product comes as right or left handed, the right having a green handle and the left red. When tested on a 12.7mm superline there was a primary failure of the rope sheath at 11kN with the ascender still operable.

The Rocker is primarily used as a safety back-up in industrial rope access, fire service or technical rescue as a fall arrest device in the event of main line failure.

It can also be used as a rescue back-up device for two people as the Rocker has been tested for this purpose using a 200kg mass in a fall factor two scenario. The test was undertaken using an 11mm, 32plait low stretch rope and a 1m sling. The maximum impact recorded was 5.7kN, with a slip distance of 1.10m.

The Rocker complies to EN353-2:02, EN358:00 and EN12841-A:06. We recommend it to be used with a 10 cm Rocker link sling with two Gator karabiners. This set up comes as a kit for use with the Rocker and we highly recommend it to be connected to the chest connection point on the harness. This would put the user in an upright position and is therefore compliant with fall arrest standards. It is for this reason it is also not recommended to be used with a long cow’s tail from the waist connection point of the harness.

Our heavy duty Rope Protector is made from high quality polyester. They are extra thick giving more protection over sharp edges than the standard Rope Protectors.

Our standard Rope Protectors are made from PVC reinforced polyester sheet material available in blue, red, black or yellow. On running ropes both the above can glaze due to friction.

Rope Dogs are a soft type of rope clamp used in preference to mechanical devices where some types of rope clamp will grip the rope until the rope sheath or mantle will rip or tear. The rope dog will slip, therefore being kinder to the rope it is attached to. This makes the Rope Dog ideal for tensioning systems where overloading would cause a system failure. The Rope Dog can also be off loaded and re-loaded whilst under tension.

Our Rope Dogs are manufactured using 11mm nylon rope. This makes it ideal for use with a variety of ropes from 10.5-12.5mm in diameter. Correct loading of the Rope Dog is vitally important, if loaded too loose it will slip at lower loads than if loaded correctly.

The Edge Bars have been designed as a caterpillar/edge roller style rack. Made in two segments of four 12.5mm dia. x 100mm stainless steel fixed bars. The two segments with two bars each give a total length of 32cm. Each segment is joined by two small steel maillons so they can be disconnected and used as two separate units if required, or others can be added.

The full unit comes with in an Equipment Pouch that can be fitted to a belt or back pack straps.

We can add a sewn eye termination on any length of 11mm rope in our range. The sewn termination has passed the test requirements of a sewn termination.

All rope sewn terminations are marked up with a unique serial number, length, rope diameter, and year of manufacture.

The sewn eye is also covered with a transparent protective sheath that helps protect the stitching against abrasion and the ingress of dirt but allows for the ease of inspection. All standard eyes can be fitted with a thimble to protect the rope.

This Rope Protector is a two sided multi use rope protector. One side is made using heavy duty polyester webbing for use with static ropes and the other side is canvas for use with running ropes. Sandwiched in between is 6mm foam for extra padding.

The Rope Protector can also be wrapped around rope using the velcro fastener.

This system shows a barrel knot used with a nylon eye and heat shrink and the karabiner is clipped into the loop of rope running through the rope slider.

A fig 10 knot sealed in clear heat shrink can also be used and has a higher tensile strength than the barrel knot and the standard figure of eight knot. The figure of 10 knot will on most 10.5mm and 11mm kernmantle ropes hold a static load of 22kN for three minutes as required by EN353-2 back-up safety devices on flexible line.

We are always striving to keep at the forefront of development & design. As a result of this we have once again improved our EVAC body splint. The thickness of the lower outer skin has been increased to give more resistance to abrasion, whilst using a new lightweight material on the upper skin in order to maintain the overall weight of the item. We have also changed the head strap to give two fitting systems to give a firmer head restraint.

The EVAC has a width of 68cm across both the shoulder and hip areas and is 205cm long, giving more security and protection to the casualty.

It has six horizontal lifting loops, three down each side, positioned along the main trunk/torso of the casualty. All the main casualty securing cross straps are of 50mm webbing with adjustable clip buckles. It has an integral body harness made from 25mm web with crutch padding and adjustable foot support with padding for extra security and to stop body slip when in a vertical or angular mode of lift.

The two main vertical lifting loops are positioned at the shoulder which gives a true vertical lifting position for the casualty. The head section can be formed into a cone to disperse debris when dragging through confined spaces.

The strap holding the Body Splint in position when rolled has a fitted pad and can be used for a head restraint by threading it around the outer loops on the coned area.

It can also be used as a lifting mat without the use of the straps. Two people can transfer a casualty from one flat area to another keeping the casualty in a horizontal mode.

The lower outer material is made from orange flame retardant, heavy duty PVC reinforced with nylon. The inner and bag are made from standard PVC reinforced with nylon.

The Alpine stretchers have been designed with the ever growing population in mind. It is slightly larger all round as the section from the shoulders to the hips has been made parallel and the length has been increased by 10cm. The flat bed style of the Alpine stretchers gives excellent security for spinal injuries and makes the loading of the casualty much better than a basket type stretcher, allowing far more casualty care.

All versions of the Alpine stretcher fold in half ski to ski to facilitate easy backpacking by one person, to reduce bulk on the carriers back and for economical storage. When the stretcher is opened to receive a casualty it is not reliant on the side locks to remain secure when in the horizontal position, however the locks are required when being used for vertical lifting, when sliding/sledging over edges or rough terrain.

The mountain rescue (MR) stretcher has a ski pan set between the head end skis for ease of sliding over rough terrain and snow but more importantly to protect the casualty’s back from rocks etc. The stretcher can be split in 2, if required for long carries into casualty sites but due to the lightness of the stretcher this is not always necessary.

Both the MR & CR stretcher come with casualty securing straps and lifting straps, (2 metre straps for the MR, 1.2 metre straps for the CR) and these may be used for lifting, winching, carrying, sledging or as pulling straps.

The stretcher comes with storage bag that has a single padded shoulder carrying strap and outside pouch for inspection record card. Carrying handles can be fitted to the stretcher, and they come as standard with the MR stretcher. Both accept the fitting of the stretcher wheel and head protection canopy. These must be ordered separately.

The Stretchers Conform To:EC Declaration Of Conformity 93/42/EEC concerning medical devices. Article 11 (5) and annex VII Class 1 devices.

The Adjustable Stretcher Lifting Slings have been designed for rescue, therefore are not (PPE) personal protective equipment. They are adjustable lifting slings for use with stretchers in mountaineering, industrial rescue and helicopter winching. They can also be used for lifting and lowering in both horizontal and vertical positions.

The Adjustable Lifting Slings have been approved for lift by RAF SAR Force UK & Bristow UK Search and Rescue

The Stretcher wheel frame has been designed to be assembled quickly and easily by just slotting the foot end forks into the main front forks. The frame connects onto the stretcher bed frame in four places.

The angle of the frame down to the wheel puts all the downward force onto the wheel axle as is normal with a bike.

The Basket Stretcher Lifting Slings have been designed for rescue, therefore are not (PPE) personal protective equipment. They are adjustable in length with large connectors for use with stretchers in mountaineering, industrial rescue and helicopter winching. They can also be used for lifting and lowering in both horizontal and vertical positions.

Our stretcher handles have been redesigned to improve the fitting system. They are now fitted using a screw making it easier to fit and to give more security.

Adaptation kits can be bought to bring the older stretcher handles in line with the latest development.

The Stretcher Lifting Bridal has been designed for rescue, therefore are not (PPE) personal protective equipment. They are adjustable liftings slings for use with stretchers in mountaineering, industrial rescue and helicopter winching. They can also be used for lifting and lowering in both horizontal and vertical positions.

The EVAC Lifting Slings have been designed for rescue and are made up of items conforming to the relevant standards for (PPE) personal protective equipment. They are for use with stretchers in mountaineering, industrial rescue and helicopter winching.

The complete set is made up of 4 x 60cm twin eye slings, 4 steel oval karabiners and 2 medium and 1 large delta maillons. Each of the items can be used independently if needed. They come complete with their own equipment storage pouch.

The Quadpod is a multi adjustable portable anchor. It was designed to supersede the tripod, design to provide more stability and reliability during a rescue situation. It is in use all over the world by many rescue organisations, military units and the UK coastguard.

The Quadpod can be used in many modes and gives greater access to areas that tripods or other devices cannot access. The head of the Quadpod has multi-connection points, and up to two legs can be disconnected for special uses or transportation.

It has been found that the need to have a 2.3m - 2.5m centre height for confined space rescue is not necessary when using the Quadpod. The extraction of casualties in body splints/stretchers once partially extracted can be brought out the rest of the way at an angle giving more casualty care, room and stability.

It comes complete with leg straps and a storage bag. These products can also be purchased separately.

WINCH

The Winch has been made to fit in various positions on our Quadpod. It can also be used separately from the Quadpod, however this would require training for the users.

Our winch can be used with kernmantle rope size between 10.5-12.5mm. The lifting load is dependent on the type of rope and the number of turns on the capstan before fitting into the self tailing guide.

As a guide, using 11mm rope with two turns on the capstan, then a third turn placed onto the self tailing guide and into the gripping flange, the maximum load it will take is approx. 250kg. At this load the rope will start to slip in the gripping flange so as not to over load the system. One person can lift or lower two people easily.

There should always be a safety back-up system in place and a rope lock on the main rope i.e. the Rocker. We strongly advise that users be trained in its many uses and learn about its physical strengths and weaknesses.

The Quad leg straps come as standard when ordering the Quadpod. The straps are light to carry and pack into the bags’ side pouch. They are extremely fast to connect and have very fine adjustment.

The Quadpod bag comes as standard when ordering the Quadpod. The bag has an adjustable strap for carrying over the shoulder and has two storage compartments for straps and documents.

The knife blade is stainless steel and is razor sharp, it easily cuts an 11mm rope even if it is not loaded. The knife is designed so you select the rope you want to cut to insert it into the opening. The blade is protected to prevent accidental cutting when it hangs on the pouch.

The knife is connected to the pouch with a 3mm elastic safety cord. The pouch has a press stud lid and a velcro belt loop to enable you to fix it to your waist belt without the need for threading.

Rigging plates were developed for putting multiple connections into one point or anchor. They are to help clean up a system of multi connections and to help stop twist from karabiner to karabiner.

They are increasing in popularity with Fire & Rescue rope teams, available in three sizes: small, medium, and large.

Our access seat has been designed to give the user extra comfort. It connects to the karabiner attached to the waist belay point on your harness. With adjustable straps so the load is taken from the harness. It has two gear rings on each side.

Manufactured from heavy duty PVC reinforced polyester and strong polyester straps with a 12mm plastic base with closed cell foam padding. Easy to fold away flat when not in use.
