38YCC (60 Hz) 10 SEER Heat Pump Export Model Sizes 18 --- 60 (1---1/2 to5 Nominal Tons) Product Data The 38YCC Outdoor Section of Split--System Heat Pumps is designed for quiet, reliable heating during the winter and cooling during the summer. With EER ratings up to 9.5, this heat pump system provides economy of operation through energy conservation when used with components designated by the manufacturer. The 38YCC recovers heat for indoor comfort from outdoor air during the heating season and, by automatically reversing the refrigerant system, removes indoor heat and excess humidity during the cooling season. All models are listed with UL (U.S. and Canada). FEATURES AND BENEFITS Electrical Range All units are offered in 208/230v single phase. Three--phase units are available from 036 through 060 sizes in 208/230v. Wide Range of Sizes All sizes of the 38YCC are offered in single phase 208--230v. The 38YCC 030 through 060 models are offered in 208/230v 3 phase. Unit Design All units are equipped with totally enclosed fan motors for greater reliability under adverse weather conditions. The large, wrap--around coil uses copper tube epoxy coated enhanced aluminum fin and is designed for optimum heat transfer and corrosion protection during heating and cooling. The vertical air discharge carries the sound and air up and away from adjacent patio areas and foliage. Coil can be cleaned with a common garden hose. WeatherArmort Cabinet A weather protective cabinet of pre--painted steel is protected underneath by a zinc galvanized coating for a finish that will last for many years. All screws on cabinet exterior are coated for a long--lasting, rust--resistant, quality appearance. Compressor Designed specifically for heat pump duty, with energy efficiency during heating and cooling operation. Each compressor is hermetically sealed against contamination to assure long life and dependable performance; compressors are also externally mounted on rubber isolators for quiet operation. For improved serviceability, all models are equipped with a compressor terminal plug. Continuous compressor operation is approved down to --30_F (--34.4_C) in the heating mode, and down to 55_F (12.8_C) in the cooling mode (unless equipped for low--ambient operation). Compressor Protection Each compressor is protected with internal temperature-- and current--sensitive overloads. Reliable standard components Includes a suction--tube accumulator that reduces the amount of liquid refrigerant that reaches the compressor; a lowpressure switch to stop the compressor if refrigerant charge is lost; a crankcase heater on all 3--phase units (except 030 size) to keep compressor oil warm and free of refrigerant for maximum lubricity; an internal compressor relief valve for high--pressure protection. 3--phase monitor board (scroll compressor models) Control board that monitors the electrical phase and prevents compressor operation if wired incorrectly.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS (CONT.)External Service ValvesService valves are brass, front seating type. The 38YCC has sweatfield connections. Valves are externally located so refrigerant tubeconnections can be made quickly and easily. Each valve has aservice port for ease of checking operating refrigerant pressures.

Easy ServiceabilityOne panel provides access to electrical controls. Removal of wiredome gives access to fan motor and removal of the top gives accessto the coil and compressor. All models are equipped with acompressor terminal plug.

Discharge MufflerMinimizes low frequency sound and pressure pulsation generatedby compressor discharge gas.

Defrost Control BoardIncorporates a defrost relay, defrost timer, and low--voltageterminations. The defrost control is a time and temperatureinitiation/termination control which includes 3 field--selectabletime periods of 30, 60, and 90 minutes.

3. Compressor Start Assist — PTC TypeSolid state electrical device which gives a ”soft” boost to thecompressor at each start--up.

Usage Guideline:

Suggested in installations with marginal power supply.

4. Crankcase HeaterAn electric resistance heater which mounts to the base of thecompressor to keep the lubricant warm during off cycles. Improvescompressor lubrication on restart and minimizes the chance ofliquid slugging.

Usage Guideline:

Required in low ambient cooling applications.

Required in long line applications.

Suggested in all commercial applications.

5. Cycle ProtectorThe cycle protector is designed to prevent compressor shortcycling. This control provides an approximate 5--minute delay afterpower to the compressor has been interrupted for any reason,including power outage, protector control trip, thermostat jiggling,or normal cycling.

6. Evaporator Freeze ThermostatAn SPST temperature--actuated switch that stops unit operationwhen evaporator reaches freeze--up conditions.

Usage Guideline:

Required when low ambient kit has been added.

7. High Pressure SwitchA high pressure switch that protects unit against excessive pressure.

Usage Guideline:

Required in all heat pumps operated in dual fuelapplications.

8. Isolation RelayAn SPDT relay which switches the low--ambient controller out ofthe outdoor fan motor circuit when the heat pump switches toheating mode.

Usage Guideline:

Required in all heat pumps where low ambient kit hasbeen added.

9. Liquid--Line Solenoid Valve (LLS)An electrically operated shutoff valve which stops and startsrefrigerant liquid flow in response to compressor operation. It is tobe installed at the outdoor unit to control refrigerant off cyclemigration in the heating mode.

Usage Guideline:

An LLS is required in all long line heat pumpapplications to control refrigerant off cycle migration inthe heating mode. See Long Line Guideline.

10. Low--Ambient Pressure Switch KitA long life pressure switch which is mounted to outdoor unitservice valve. It is designed to cycle the outdoor fan motor in orderto maintain head pressure within normal operating limits(approximately 100 psig to 225 psig). The control will maintainworking head pressure at low--ambient temperatures down to 0_Fwhen properly installed.

Usage Guideline:

A Low--Ambient Pressure Switch or MotorMasterrLow--Ambient Controller must be used when coolingoperation is used at outdoor temperatures below 55_F(12.8_C).

MotorMasterr Low--Ambient ControllerA fan--speed control device activated by a temperature sensor,designed to control condenser fan motor speed in response to thesaturated, condensing temperature during operation in coolingmode only. For outdoor temperatures down to --20_F (--28.9_C), itmaintains condensing temperature at 100_F ±10_F (37.8_C ±5.5_C).

Usage Guideline:

A MotorMasterr Low Ambient Controller orLow--Ambient Pressure Switch must be used whencooling operation is used at outdoor temperaturesbelow 55_F (12.8_C).

Suggested for all commercial applications.

12. Outdoor Air Temperature SensorDesigned for use with Carrier Thermostats listed in thispublication. This device enables the thermostat to display theoutdoor temperature. This device also is required to enable specialthermostat features such as auxiliary heat lock out.

13. Outdoor ThermostatAn SPDT temperature--actuated switch which turns onsupplemental electric heaters when outdoor air temperature dropsbelow a user--selected set point.

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONSGENERALSystem DescriptionOutdoor--mounted, air--cooled, split--system heat pump unitsuitable for ground or rooftop installation. Unit consists of ahermetic compressor, an air--cooled coil, propeller--type condenserfan, and a control box. Unit will discharge supply air upward asshown on contract drawings. Unit will be used in a refrigerationcircuit to match up to a packaged fan coil or coil unit.Quality Assurance

— Unit construction will comply with latest edition ofANSI/ASHRAE and with NEC.

— Unit will be constructed in accordance with ULstandards and will carry the UL label of approval. Unitwill have c--UL approval.

— Unit cabinet will be capable of withstanding Federal TestMethod Standard No. 141 (Method 6061) 500--hr saltspray test.

— Air--cooled condenser coils will be leak tested at 150psig and pressure tested at 300 psig.

— Unit constructed in ISO 9001 approved facility.

Delivery, Storage, and Handling— Unit will be shipped as single package only and is stored

and handled per unit manufacturer’s recommendations.

PRODUCTSEquipment

— Factory--assembled, single--piece, air--cooled heat pumpunit. Contained within the unit enclosure is all factorywiring, piping, controls, compressor, refrigerant charge(R22), and special features required prior to fieldstart--up.

Unit Cabinet

— Unit cabinet will be constructed of galvanized,prepainted steel.

Fans— Condenser fan will be direct--drive propeller type,

discharging air upward.

AIR--COOLED, SPLIT--SYSTEM HEAT PUMP38YCC

1--1/2 TO 5 NOMINAL TONS— Condenser fan motors will be totally enclosed, 1--phase

type with class B insulation and permanently lubricatedbearings. Shafts will be corrosion resistant.

— Fan blades will be statically and dynamically balanced.

— Condenser fan openings will be equipped with coatedsteel wire safety guards.

Compressor— Compressor will be hermetically sealed.

— Compressor will be mounted on rubber vibrationisolators.

Condenser Coil— Condenser coil will be air cooled.

— Coil will be constructed of epoxy coated, enhancedaluminum fins mechanically bonded to copper tubeswhich are then cleaned, dehydrated, and sealed.

Refrigeration Components

— Refrigeration circuit components will include liquid lineshutoff valve with sweat connections, suction line shutoffvalves with sweat connections, system charge of R--22refrigerant, and compressor oil.

Operating Characteristics— The capacity of the unit will meet or exceed _____ Btuh
