This case study is meant to teach the basic concept of the product development process and is based on the development of a new architectural hardware business developed during my years at Black & Decker. The project required that a solid case be made, adequate funding was received and that the project delivered on the promise. This case study builds on the milestone process and is divide into seven phases. The first phase is the idea, trends and basis of interest development. This case study is a condensed version and doesn’t include all of the information used to develop the brand. In order to develop a new brand it’s important to develop a plan using a product development program. Generally, product development implementation should be guided by a milestone or stage-gate process. This should not diminish the importance of the idea, but to compliment it by ensuring that the idea is embraced and supported by the company and that the implementation meets the target objectives.
