DescriptionThis unique roller shutter is specifically

designed for use in retail outlets within large

open plan shopping malls frequented by large

numbers of the general public. It combines

optimum fire protection with aesthetic appeal.

It stays hidden from view when not needed and

sweeps into action in the event of fire to

prevent the transfer of heat from one area to

another. It is also suitable for underground car

parks and warehouses.

ApprovalsThe Pyroshield System G Fire Shutter is tested

and approved as a fully insulated shutter by the

`Institut fùr Bautectnik Berlin’ to DIN 4102 at 90

minutes. Tested in the UK to BS 476: Part 8 for

three hours insulation.

SpecificationCurtain & Roller: Manufactured from purpose designed inter-locking steel laths in galvanised finish. The

curtain is fully lined with a ceramic fibre blanket to offer protection from radiated heat. The roller is made

from seamless steel tube mounted on stub shafts running in bearing houses.

Support StructureManufactured in galvanised steel and lined out with rockwool ceramic fibre, the structure supports the Roller

and forms the guide for the curtain.

Drive SystemThe Pyroshield Curtain is power driven in operation by a 3ph geared motor mounted on an adjacent mounting

plate. Drive to the shutter barrel is via roller chain system.

ControlsThe shutter control system will work with existing fire alarm or as a stand alone system. Photo-electric calls can

be introduced to prevent the shutter closing onto objects or personnel in the opening.

DescriptionThis “unique” four hour rated fire door system that

combines cost effectiveness with unparalleled safety for

people and property is primarily designed for use in open

plan areas where compartment walls would restrict or

impede product manufacture. It can also be used in

exhibition Halls, and large warehouses. In the event of a

fire, the curtain is activated and lowered to prevent the

spread of fire from one area to another.

Protecting LifeBecause of its unique design the irrigated fire curtain can

be activated immediately without the time delays

associated with conventional barrier systems. Personnel

working within the affected area can pass between the curtain panels to reach a safe exit without destroying

the integrity of the fire screen.

Equally important, the work of firemen alerted to the scene is made easier by the fact that they are able to

observe and put out the fire through the slits without reducing the fire screen efficiency.

ApprovalThis curtain is tested and assessed to BS476 pt 22, 1987, ISO 3008 and Australian Standard 1530.4.1985 for over

240minutes Integrity and insulation. It also has full assessments covering its use to the maximum sizes of

16metres wide by 5metres high.

Features

• The irrigated fire curtain is compatible with any type of fire detection system

• Permits access through the curtain by personnel trapped in the fire area without affecting fire resistant integrity

• Enables Fire Brigade personnel attending the scene to observe the fire through the slits and put out the fire

without reducing the fire screen efficiency.

• Cost effective to install.

• Greater spans can be covered with a single curtain compared with conventional barriers (maximum span = 5

metres high, 16 metres wide).

• Neat and unobtrusive appearance.

Irrigated Fire Curtain

Irrigated Fire Curtain

StructureEach curtain is made up of individual double layered overlapping panels of absorbent and highly fire

resistant material, to provide total coverage. At the bottom of each panel there is a hem which houses a

steel weight which assures constant gravity pull on the curtain. The bottom of each panel is finished with a

“skirt” which provides a perfect seal with the floor. The lateral seal is guaranteed by running the curtain

and steel weight in the two vertical guide grooves of the metal framework. Built into the frame and

connected to the guides, are two housings containing the mechanism for the irrigation system, the

automatic curtain release system and the system to control the lowering of the curtain. The top casing of

the framework houses the rolled-up curtain, the irrigation ducts and the curtain mechanism.

IrrigationThis is provided by three ducts at the top comprising copper tubes of variable diameter according to the

amount of water needed for the curtain surface. These three ducts are connected to a valve that is

controlled by the automatic or manual release mechanism.

The curtain must be connected to a water supply that functions even if other failures occur, at a rate of

12.5 litres/square metre/minute (0.25 gallons*/square feet/minute) and minimum pressure of around 2 bars

(30 pounds/square inch).

(NB – Flow rates given are average. Specific rates and pressures are calculated to suit opening sizes)..

(*Imperial Gallon)

Release SystemIn the event of a fire, hot gases, smoke or a rise in temperature will active the detection system, which in

turn activates a circuit breaker to lower the curtain in position. In addition the curtain is impregnated

with water that ensures a perfect seal, hermetically blocking both the flames and smoke. The system can

also be brought into operation automatically by a fusible link, set at 70o, or manually using a “pull

release” handle.

DescriptionTyco Fire and Integrated Solutions manufacture and supply a wide range of

fusible links, electromagnetic hold / release devices, speed governors and specially

developed control equipment for the use with fire dampers, doors and shutters.

Fusible LinksSoldered fusible links are most commonly used in fire dampers, vents and

shutters. They are simple devices designed to ‘break’ at specific

temperatures to ensure that the product closes in time of fire.

Quartzoid Bulb links work in a similar fashion as the soldered link and

are used in similar products but use a frangible bulb, similar to those

used in sprinkler systems, as the means of detecting rise in

temperature. Variations of these links can also be connected to the fire

alarm circuits for remote release.

Release & Control DevicesVarious designs of release devices are available for use with doors and

shutters but all are connected to the alarm circuit for remote

activation, either by impulse or de-energisation and all forms are

re-settable after activation.

Controlling the speed of closure once released is important to prevent

injury to personnel in the vicinity or indeed damage to the product itself.

Devices, normally hydraulic, can be installed on doors and shutters to

allow controlled closure to meet forthcoming EN regulations.

Control EquipmentOur fire control panel is a digitally programmable and is designed

specifically for use on fire doors and shutters. The panel can act as an

interface between the fire product and existing on site alarm systems or,

with the addition of suitable detectors, etc., can act as a stand-alone

system. The panel also incorporates audio / visual warnings and time

delay circuits for use where personnel are likely to be in the vicinity of

the closing door or shutter.

Contact our dedicated sales team in our Manchester office for further

details on products.

NOTE :

All fire products that incorporate any of the above equipment should be

inspected and tested twice annually to ensure their continued efficiency.

DescriptionThese horizontal and vertical sliding doors are fitted into compartment walls to confine an outbreak of fire to

the smallest area. Sliding doors are the most reliable of all fire protection products in closing off an opening.

They have fewer moving components to go wrong and do not rely on latching mechanism to keep them closed.

ApprovalThe door construction has been tested at the Warrington Fire Research Centre to BS.476 Part 8: 1972, and

achieved the following results.

Stability 240 minutes (test discontinued at this point)

Integrity 240 minutes (test discontinued at this point)

Insulation 8 minutes

The door manufacturing process is quality controlled at all stages with ISO 9001 : 2000 quality standards,

DescriptionThe SD3 Smoke Curtain is specifically designed

for use in large open plan shopping malls,

exhibition Halls and leisure facilities

frequented by large numbers of the general

public. Under normal conditions, the smoke

curtain remains unseen. It is mounted in a

smoke curtain head box contained within the

ceiling void.

Approval The complete Smoke Curtain System fully

complies with BS 7346 Part 3. The fabric has

been tested to B.S.476 Parts 6, 7 and 20 to

withstand temperatures of up to 1000°C after

60 minutes minimum

SpecificationThe automatic smoke curtain consists of an X32A woven glass fibre cloth, weight 415g/sq.m coated with

20g/sq.m each side of micronised aluminium polymer giving a minimum fabric weight of 455g/sq.m. This is

wound onto an octagonal tube, each of which incorporates a 24volt D.C motor, a sealed heavy-duty ball

bearing assembly, and an electronic control circuit.

Fixing arrangementThe automatic roller assemblies, incorporating the fabric, are to be housed in galvanised mild-steel head boxes,

which are normally supported from a framework of Unistrut channel and M10 studding.

Standard head box sizes shall be 150mm x 150mm for single rollers (maximum width six metres) and 250mm x

150mm for multiple rollers (over six metres wide). Larger head boxes may be required where the curtain drop is

in excess of four metres.

Electrical OperationOperation of the curtain is via the Group Control Panel that can either be mounted adjacent to the smoke

curtain head boxes within the ceiling void, allowing access for maintenance, or mounted in a remote position

from the curtains. The panel requires a local 240v ac supply rated at 3 amps via an unswitched fused spur on a

maintained supply installed by others.

For operational purposes the Group Control Panel must be connected to a normally closed volt-free contact

within the fire alarm control panel, using Belden 8761 cable. The alarm cable shall be monitored by an end of

line device, immediately lowering the smoke curtains to their operational position should a short circuit or fault

be detected.

SD3 Smoke Curtain

Each control panel is capable of operating

up to ten rollers and includes battery back-

up, which will maintain the curtains in their

retracted position for a period of three

hours during a mains failure. It will also

possible to manually operate the curtains for

twenty cycles during this period.

Should the battery voltage fall below a pre

determined limit, a low voltage cut off

circuit will activate the curtain, which will

descend in a controlled manner under the

power of gravity.

The roller motors, which are 24 volt D.C.,

must be wired from the G.C.P. in a ring main

using suitably sized cable to ensure a voltage

of 24v D.C. -10%. The curtains automatically

descend upon receipt of a signal from the

fire-alarm panel and automatically retract

when the signal is removed. During ascent

the motors are controlled via a synchronised

speed circuit to ensure all curtains are raised

at similar rates. The curtains descend under

the power of gravity at all times, including

total mains and battery back up failure.

The lower edge of the curtains incorporate a formed metal section that acts as a weight bar to enable the

curtain to unwind upon receipt of a signal from the fire alarm panel or total mains and battery failure.

The weight bar shall also prevent deflection as detailed in B.S. 7346 Part 3.

A poly carbonate extrusion is fitted to the angle for aesthetic purposes and to provide a stop against the

underside of the head box or stopping mechanism.

Limit switches are not to be used to control the upper and lower positions of the curtain.
