NAS- DMSAQS 0 1 Quick Start Guide 1 Hardware Installation 2 Software Installation If your storage device has hard disks already installed, proceed directly to step 7. 1. Insert the key and turn clockwise to open. 2. Slide the latch to the right to release handle. Install the first hard disk on lowest level tray, second hard disk on second lowest level tray, and so forth. 3. Pull the handle to slide the hard disk tray forward. Then pull the hard disk tray out. 4. Unfasten two screws from each side of the hard disk tray and remove the metal bracket. 5. Fit the hard disk into the tray. Align and fasten the four screws. 6. Keeping the handle in its full-open state, slide the hard disk tray all the way into the device until the hinge of the handle is inside the device. Then close the handle. The latch should click into place. 7. Make sure the computer is connected to a router. 8. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to any network connector ( ) on the back of your storage system and the other end to a router. Or you can connect both your computer and storage system to one switch, and this switch is connected to the network which has a DHCP server. 9. Make sure that your storage system is turned off. 10. Set voltage switch to the voltage matching your local standard setting. 11. Connect one end of the power cord to your NAS and other end to a standard electrical outlet. If you are using hard drive that has been installed with NAS middleware before, follow the steps on section “System Power-on Without Hard Drive .” If you are using full new hard drives that have never installed NAS middleware before, follow the steps on section “System Power-on With Full New Hard Drives .” 1. NAS-DMSAQS01 Quick Start Guide

If your storage device has hard disks already installed, proceed directly to step 7.

1. Insert the key and turn clockwise to open.

2. Slide the latch to the right to release handle. Install the first hard disk on lowest level tray, second hard disk on second lowest level tray, and so forth.

If you are using hard drive that has been installed with NAS middleware before, follow the steps on section “System Power-on Without Hard Drive.” If you are using full new hard drives that have never installed NAS middleware before, follow the steps on section “System Power-on With Full New Hard Drives.”

1. Insert the included utility disc into your computer and the following screen appears (or click AutoRun.exe on utility disc).

2. Click Install Java to install JAVA script on your computer.

3. After reading the license agreement, click Accept and progress of installation screen appears (may take a couple of minutes).

4. Click Finish when the following screen appears to exit installation.

5. Click Setup NAS Discovery Utility.

6. The following screen appears. Click Next.

7. Select the destination to install the NAS Discovery Utility and click Next.

8. The Select Start Menu Folder screen appears, click Next.

9. Click the Create a desktop icon checkbox to enable it and click Next.

10. Click Install.

11. The progress of installation will be shown.

12. When the following screen appears, click Finish to exit the installation process.

13. Click the NAS Discovery Utility shortcut icon on the desktop or launch NAS Discovery Utility by clicking Start Programs NAS Discovery Utility NAS Discovery Utility. Click Yes to allow ActiveX controls.

Click Run to allow the digital signature verification if the following screen appears.

14. The following screen appears.

System Power-on Without Hard Drive

15. Turn on NAS power switch (do not install the hard drive at this moment). When discovery tool has discovered NAS, it will show “Zero-Disk Mode” on Firmware Version column. Click “Configure RAID Profile” on the Configuration URL column.

16. When the next screen appears log in by root and no password is required.

17. After logging in another screen appears. Install the hard drive into the lowest level tray and after around 30 seconds, click REFRESH (if no hard drive appears, click REFRESH again.).

18. When the hard drive appears on screen click CONFIGURE.

19. Click OK when the next screen appears.

20. Install another hard drive into the second lowest level tray and after around 30 seconds, click REFRESH (if no hard drive appears, click REFRESH again.).

21. Click Configure on the next screen.

NOTE: If you want to install more hard disk drive(s) (not new hard disk drive but hard disk drives that installed NAS firmware before) into the other slots, perform steps 20 and 21 again, otherwise go directly to step 22 after you click Configure.

22. Another screen appears.

23. If you use default mode (JBOD if ≧ two hard disk drives or Single) without changing RAID mode, click Upgrade and next screen appear. Click OK to jump to step 29.

24. If you change the RAID mode, click OK when the next screen appears.

25. The system will reboot and another screen appears, wait approximately 3 ~ 5 minutes.

26. After rebooting, log in by root again and no password is required.

27. Click Upgrade on the next screen.

28. When confirmation message appear click OK.

29. System will start to format the hard drive.

After formatting, click OK when the confirmation message appears.

30. Another screen appears.

31. Click Browse to select and install the xxxx.cpio.bz2 file. This file is stored on the default C:\Program Files\NAS Discovery Utility\Firmware directory, otherwise it can be found on the firmware folder of the directory where you previously installed NAS Discovery utility.

32. Click Upgrade and another screen appears. The system will start to install into the NAS hard drive.

33. If the NAS Discovery Utility screen is not on your computer anymore, again click the NAS Discovery Utility shortcut icon on your desktop or launch NAS Discovery Utility by clicking Start Programs NAS Discovery Utility NAS Discovery Utility.

34. The Status column will show various stages of the upgrade process: (45 minutes or more depending on the size of the hard drive).

35. Click the Click to Configure NAS on the Configuration URL column to log in to Storage System Management when the next screen appears. Refer to User’s Manual file Section 3.2 for details on various management tasks.

System Power-on With Full New Hard Drives

1. Install hard drive then turn on NAS power switch.

2. When the discovery tool has discovered the NAS, it will show “Zero-Disk Mode” on the Firmware Version column. Click “Configure RAID Profile” on Configuration URL column.

3. When the next screen appears, log in by root and no password is required.

4. After logging in next screen will show how many hard drive(s) you installed, if 2 hard drives installed, the default RAID mode is RAID 1, if ≧ 3 hard drives installed, the default RAID mode is RAID 5.

5. If you use the default RAID mode, click Upgrade and the next screen appears. Click OK to jump to step 11.

6. If you change the RAID mode, click OK when

the next screen appears.

7. The system will reboot and the next screen appears, wait approximately 3 ~ 5 minutes.

8. After rebooting it will display your new RAID mode, log in again.

9. When the next screen appear click Upgrade.

10. When the confirmation message appears, click OK.

11. System will start to format the hard drive. After formatting, click OK when the confirmation message appears.

12. Another screen appears.
