HiCrome™ MULLER HINTON AGAR (M2010) WITH DUAL ADVANTAGEMoving ahead with the global revolution in diagnostic Microbiology, HiMedia presents ‘HiCrome™ Muller Hinton Agar (M2010) with Dual Advantage‘ as another feather in the cap of HiCrome™ series.

Chromogenic Identification

+Antimicrobial Susceptibility» Traditional method takes 48 hours for organism

identification and antimicrobial susceptibility» This medium gives rapid and reliable results in 24 hours» Chromogenic differentiation of various Urinary Tract

pathogens» Simultaneous detection of Antimicrobial Susceptibility» Can be employed in clinical testing of Urinary Tract

infection

Organism Identification» Escherichia coli - pink to purple» Enterobacter or Klebsiella - metallic blue» Enterococcus faecalis - blue» Staphylococcus aureus - colourless to golden yellow» Proteus species - brown colouration

» Other yeasts - colourless

Mueller Hinton Agar is used as a test medium for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing and is recommended by CLSI. Kirby-Bauer et al recommended this medium for performing Antibiotic Susceptibility Tests using a single disc of high concentration. WHO Committee on Standardization of Susceptibility Testing has accepted Mueller Hinton Agar for determining the

susceptibility of microorganisms because of its reproducibility. The ingredients are selected for low thymine and thymidine content as determined by MIC values for Enterococcus faecalis with sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim. Calcium and magnesium ion concentrations are adjusted to provide the amounts recommended by CLSI to give the correct MIC values with aminoglycosides and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

HiCrome™ Mueller Hinton Agar is used for presumptive identification and susceptibility testing of bacteria directly from clinical samples. It provides high medical value to critical care cases where faster treatment decisions are expected as it gives both identification and susceptibility results within 24 hours.

Chromogenic mixture incorporated helps in colour differentiation. One of the chromogenic substrate is cleaved by ß-glucosidase possessed by Enterococci resulting in formation of blue colonies. E.coli produce pink to purple colonies due to the enzyme ß-D-galactosidase that cleaves the other chromogenic substrate. Staphylococcus aureus produces colourless colonies. Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces greenish pigmentation. Klebsiella and Enterobacter species produces metallic blue coloured colonies. Colonies of Proteus, Morganella and Providencia species appear brown. This medium can be employed in screening urinary tract pathogens wherein organisms can be differentiated based on colour and simultaneously the antibiotic sensitivity can be determined.

INSTA Q96™HiMedia launches the latest technology in Real Time PCR with its Insta Q96™ Real-time PCR (LA1012) Detection System. With the Integrated Tablet Computer the operation is Convenient and the experience Wireless.

Insta Q96™ machine has innovative 3D Hot Lid, a new technology with a Pressure Box which exerts uniform pressure on the plate module through 6 compression springs ensuring perfect sealing and avoiding sample evaporation. The Pressure Box consists of an outer plastic box embedded with a rubber pad which is covered by an aluminium plate. This plate fits snugly on the PCR plate providing an airtight seal which prevents the connection between hot and cold air. This module bears dynamic temperature uniformity.

Make in IndiaMAKE IN INDIA WEEK, MUMBAIFEBRUARY 17, 2016

It’s an immense pleasure to announce that HiMedia is one of the Indian companies which has been selected at Maharashtra State Level under BioSciences category by Government of India, and was invited to attend the “Make in India Week” in Mumbai, an event held on February 17, 2016.

Memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between HiMedia Laboratories Pvt Ltd and Government of Maharashtra, which would facilitate HiMedia Laboratories Pvt Ltd to obtain necessary permissions / registrations / approvals / clearances / fiscal incentives etc. from the concerned departments of the state, as per the rules and regulations of Government of Maharahtra.

The Government of India had organised a mega event ‘Make in India Week’ in Mumbai from February 13-18, 2016. The idea behind the ‘Make in India Week’ was to showcase the people, policies and partnerships that are driving India’s new manufacturing revolution.

The main focus of ‘Make in India Center’ was to provide the platform for exhibiting innovative products and maufacturing processes developed in India along with a vision to leverage design, innovation and technology in the backdrop of global manufacturing.

Make in India Logo is derived from India’s national emblem, Ashok Chakra, which has four lions. The wheel denotes peaceful, progress and dynamism – a sign from India’s enlightened past, pointing the way to a vibrant future. The prowling lion stands for strength, courage, tenacity and wisdom – values that are every bit as Indian today as they have ever been.

Thus the logo is the silhouette of a lion on the prowl, made entirely of cogs, symbolizing manufacturing, strength and national pride.

Did You Know?Did You Know? Most icebergs are salt-free water caused by broken glaciers. Some sea-water icebergs do exist – they are green.

When a large chunk of glacier breaks off and floats into the sea, it forms an iceberg. Since all the glaciers are frozen fresh water, the icebergs so formed are undoubtedly fresh water.

When the sea water or salt water freezes, the so formed iceberg will also consist of freshwater. Since it is solidifying slowly, when it forms the lattice, there is no room left for salt inclusions. As a result, all the salt is pushed out on the frontiers of the solidifying mass until it reaches the complete outside of the chunk of ice that has formed. Thus, the iceberg so formed will consist of freshwater as well.

Multicolor-Striped icebergs also exist which are quite rare and absolutely gorgeous. When an iceberg picks up sea-water, it can create green stripes. Blue stripes are formed when water is trapped between ice and it freezes too quickly for air bubbles to form, which causes blue coloration. Other colors appear because of algae and other materials. As water melts and refreezes on an iceberg over time, dirt & other particles can become trapped between new layers of ice, creating multicolored stripes across its surface. The picture above is a good example of this effect.
