1. Introduction

1.1. Description

With a 2.4m dish, Intellian t240CK is the latest addition to Intellian’s line of satellite TV antenna systems, capable of receiving C-band and Ku-band satellite signal simultaneously. The t240CK supports C-band linear-polarized satellite receptions as well as multi-band and multi-polarized Ku-band signal receptions by incorporating Intellian’s exclusive WorldView™ LNB module which allows boaters to seamlessly tune in any satellite TV services around the world without manually changing the LNB unit inside the antenna dome each time a vessel crosses into a different satellite service region. Build on V240C’s rigorous pedestal design, the t240CK’s ultra-wide elevation angle (-15° to +120°) and unlimited azimuth design provides superb and uninterrupted signal virtually anywhere you go, even in extremely low and high latitude regions. In addition, the t240CK is exclusively designed to support viewing all Standard Definition (SD) and HD programming broadcast through both DVB and the latest DVB-S2 satellite TV service standards

1.2. Scope This specification sheet describes Intellian t240CK C- & Ku-band marine TVRO satellite antenna system, antenna control unit and major components’ key specifications and features. In order to complete the system installation, the user is required to configure the Ship’s Gyro Compass and other BDE such as satellite receiver and TV for the desired application purpose.

2. Key Features

2.1. Simultaneous C & Ku-band Signal Receptions Intellian t240CK is capable of receiving C-band and Ku-band satellite signal simultaneously. Users are allowed to connect both C-band and Ku-band satellite receivers to the antenna RF outputs at the same time.

2.2. Auto Bow adjustment The installation of the t240CK requires just a simple process compared to the existing antenna systems in the market. Once the satellite’s signal peak position is acquired during the first-time setup, the antenna system will re-adjust all the parameters (Bow adjust, home sensor offset, azimuth and elevation position) automatically even after it is rebooted. This will save a tremendous amount of time and effort for users. And, the antenna is shipped to the customer with all target satellites information embedded, so the customer can track the satellites right after installation.

2.3. Built-in WorldView LNB

Intellian t240CK incorporates the WorldView™ LNB module which is designed and manufactured by Intellian’s in-house engineering. This new LNB offers seamless switching between circular polarized programming in North, Central and South America, and linear polarized programming using a Universal Quad LNB in Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific.

2.4. Wireless Communication with the ACU The ACU of Intellian t240CK offers upgraded functions. The built-in Wi-Fi wireless network card enables the ACU to be wirelessly connected, and it can be either turned on and off by a switch. After connecting with Wi-Fi wireless network or setting up a network with ACU, it will be easy to monitor, control, and change the settings of Intellian antenna system wirelessly using laptops, smartphones, or any kind of wireless devices.

2.5. Antenna Log Data and Firmware Upgrade through USB The ACU of t240CK now automatically stores all action data of Intellian antenna onto the built-in 256MB memory. With 256MB memory, about one month of data can be stored, and all existing logs are available to be transferred onto USB. Also just by plugging in USB with firmware update files stored, Firmware can be automatically updated and upgraded onto the ACU.

2.6. Bluetooth Module Support When Intellian supplied Bluetooth module is equipped on the Main Control Unit of Intellian Antenna, user can access and control the antenna with a laptop that has Bluetooth capability. If the ACU is installed at a great distance from the antenna, then the built-in Bluetooth connection module inside of the antenna dome can enable a PC connection right alongside the dome.This will lead to easier and more effective ways to setup and maintain the system.

2.7. Gyro- Free satellite search capability Intellian’s new generation Gyro-free satellite search function enables the t240CK to acquire and lock onto the satellite without requiring a separate input from the ship’s gyro-compass.

2.8. Support Customized Satellite Library

Intellian’s exclusive preprogrammed Global satellite library, the t240CK allows you

to tune into any channel on any satellite by simply pushing the button on your remote control. The satellite library is easily created and uploaded to the antenna using our advanced PC program. The customized satellite library is provided to each customer, and the customized satellite library is loaded at the every antenna before the shipping. The antenna can directly search and track the target satellite directly without any additional satellite information setting.

2.9. All Parameters Backup & Restore Functionality All parameters can be stored at the internal memory of ACU. If you use the PC program which is provided with the antenna, the all parameters can be backed up at external file. After the final setting up the systems, back up the parameters from the PC program as file, anytime the system can be restored as the status of your final setting.

2.10. Remote Access to ACU through IP Network With embedded remote access function, the t240CK can be monitored, controlled, and diagnosed remotely from any location in the world through the AUC’s internal HTML page, which can save tremendous time and cost from the hundreds of routine maintenance activities.

Your PC must be located on the same network group with the ACU if you want to access the ACU remotely through the internal IP address. However, if the PC is

located on the outside of network group, the IP address of the ACU is required to change.

2.11. Self-Diagnosis The antenna self-diagnosis on the below list parts can be achieved by using ACU or PC program.

2.13. Improved Hardware Reliability against Rough Sea Condition The hardware of the t240CK was designed considering the Environmental Test Standards from the initial design phase. After several tens of verification tests, the hardware could be finalized so to survive the roughest vibration and shock conditions. Only the products which have passed through Intellian’s rigid ET standards can be launched to the market, and all Intellian products reliability has been proven in the market as a result of this efforts.

2.14. Easy and Reliable firmware upgrade Without hardware replacement, all firmware upgrade can be made through the ACU. Intellian own uploading program is made for easy and reliable upgrading new firmware remotely. All MPUs on board have boot-loader and always do check-sum for prevent from wrong upgrade and damage of memory. Even if the power is off during upgrade procedure, just power on and upgrade again.

3. Configuration

3.1. Overall Configuration The following text provides a basic functional overview of the system components and component interconnection as referred to in the System Block Diagram in next section. The system is comprised of two major sections: The Antenna Unit is comprised solely of the antenna radome assembly which is mounted on the ship’s upper deck or mast location chosen for best satellite reception to minimize blockages by the mast structure or funnel and interference with other ship’s navigation and communication systems such as marine radars, radio and magnet compass etc. The Antenna Control Unit (ACU) and all other ancillary equipment can be mounted in various locations on the ship. 3.1.1. Dual C-Band Linear Only Configuration For C-band Linear Polarized satellite signal reception, a multi-switch is required to be connected between the antenna and C-band receivers. This configuration allows to receive C-band Linear Polarized only.

3.1.2. Ku-Band Universal Quad Configuration For Ku-band Linear Polarized Low & High satellite signal receptions, a multi-switch is required to be connected between the antenna and Ku-band receivers.

3.1.3. Ku-Band Arbitrary Signal(Any Pol/Local) Configuration For Ku-band Linear & Circular with any programmed LO except Universal Quad satellite signal receptions, a multi-switch is required to be connected between the antenna and Ku-band receivers.

3.1.4. Dual C-Band & Ku-Band Arbitrary Signal(Any Pol/Local) Configuration For simultaneous C-band and Ku-band Linear with any programmed LO satellite signal receptions, a multi-switch is required to be connected between the antenna and C-band and Ku-band receivers. In addition, a 22kHz tone which can be generated from Ku-band receiver or a Tone generator is required to send to the multi-switch.

3.1.5. Dual C-Band & Ku-Band Universal Quad High Configuration

This configuration allows to receive simultaneous C-band and Ku-band Universal High signal. For C-band and Ku-band Universal High signal receptions, a multi-switch is required to be connected between the antenna and C-band and Ku-band receivers. A 22kHz tone will be generated from Ku-band Receiver to receive Ku-band high-band signal.

3.2. Antenna Unit The antenna & radome assembly (Antenna Unit) consists of mechanical unit, control unit, RF unit, and Radome. The mechanical unit manipulates the antenna to receive the optimal satellite signal regardless of the movement of the vessel, and the control unit controls mechanical operation of the antenna. RF unit transmits the optimum satellite signal to the IRD, and the radome provides an environmental enclosure for the antenna pedestal assembly inside it. This keeps wind, water condensation and salt-water spray off the antenna pedestal assembly. This prevents damage and corrosion that would shorten the expected life span of the equipment.

3.3. WorldView LNB Unit Intellian t240CK incorporates the WorldView LNB Module, which is developed by Intellian’s own in-house engineering capability and patent pending. WorldView LNB automatically switches the Circular/ Linear Polarization and LNB’s local frequency according to the target satellite. Thus, the system enables the global satellite TV programming reception through the one antenna system without replacing various LNBs nor equipping several antennas per the various vessel routes.

3.4. Antenna Control Unit (ACU)

3.5. System Power Requirements The ACU and the antenna unit require 90 ~ 260V AC (typically 110/ 220V AC), 47~63Hz, 1Phase.

3.6. Satellite receivers (not supplied by Intellian) This antenna can be used with standard satellite receivers, and Integrated Receiver-Decoders (IRD). Both can receive “free” programming, but an IRD is required when the desired programming is encrypted. When authorized, it will decode the encrypted signals for use. Authorizing the receiver-decoder is a process of registering your receiver(s) and paying subscription fees to the service provider. The service provider then arranges for a signal to be sent through the satellite to your receiver-decoder, which will “enable” it to decode the programming you subscribed to.
