In addition to this, Tata Steel, Bearings Division, has developed capacity to design and manufacture customized bearings for specific applications as per requirement of the customers. The Division has established a state-of-the-art bearings Testing and Validation Centre for testing life and endurance by simulating actual operating conditions.
Each and every bearing goes through 47 stringent quality checks before delivering the same to the customers.

Special Purpose Ball Bearings
he basic design principle of these bearings are of Deep Groove Ball TBearings but several features have been added to take care of high angular misalignment, including special purpose double lip seals, etc. Marked as the SP & SPL Series, these bearings are available in different sizes for crank shaft applications, propeller shaft, all wheels etc. The load capacities are in accordance with ISO 76 & ISO 281:1997 (E).
hese rigid, non-separable radial bearings comprise of the Tinner race, outer race, balls and cage, where the inner and outer race have deep grooves within, which makes the balls move. The groove radii are slightly greater than the ball radii. This geometry of the grooves makes for high radial and axial load bearing capacities, and also for combined loads and findsextensive use in two wheelers, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, white goods, pumps and motors.

hese specially designed bearings from Tata Bearings are built to take large Taxial forces and sustain large radial forces. The cone, cage and tapered rollers together form the inner ring assembly, which is separable from the outer ring. The bearing is so designed that the extensions of raceway and roller converge at a point on the axis of rotation. The tapered configuration facilitates the rolling motion of roller on the raceway, and generates a 'seating force', pushing the roller against the large rib of the inner ring. This prevents the rollers from skewing off apex, keeps them positively aligned and in contact with the inner ring rib. Tata Bearings TRBs are finding increasing use in light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, tractors, passenger cars, water pumps, etc.

Hub Unit Bearings
he Hub Unit Bearings from Tata Bearings are pre-adjusted, greased and sealed Tfor life. These bearings are far more lasting, compact, lighter, easier to install and cost-effective. The Bearings comprise one outer ring, two inner rings, balls, polyamide cage and heavy duty seals. The seals are specially designed by Tata Bearings to match wheel hub application and have springs loaded with special steel flinger capable of preventing ingress of heavy mud and slurry.

his range of bearings is capable of taking 'combined loads', i.e., high radial Tand axial loads. The capability to take axial load increases with increase in contact angle. They are particularly suitable for application demanding rigid axial guidance e.g. fan-support applications for commercial vehicles. Fitted with high temperature grease and seals with special inner ring grooves which prevent the entry of external contaminants, these bearings come with high geometrical accuracy and superior quality, resulting in longer life.

lutch Release Bearings from Tata Bearings are designed for engagement Cand disengagement of clutch in commercial vehicles and tractors. These bearings are fitted with special accessories to prevent external contamination. The bearings have a front cover made of special heat treated steel, for wear resistance during clutch engagement. Special assembly and controls are employed for cup caulking and closing with the front cover to prevent the relative rotation of front cover.

pecially designed for propeller shaft applications in heavy commercial vehicles, Sthese bearings are fitted with two heavy duty, long spring loaded life oil seal on both sides which prevent the entry of external contamination like mud, water and moisture. The bearings have excellent capability of retaining grease. Bearings and oil seals are assembled in a phosphatised coated cup which makes them resistant to rust, corrosion and moisture and provides maximum mileage to vehicles. The specified load rating as shown in the table, are calculated as per ISO281:1997 (E).

As Magneto Bearings transmit axial force in only one direction, two bearings are required to be mounted against each other for axial location on a shaft.
arbo-nitriding is one of the best hardening processes in which Carbon & CNitrogen both are diffused into the surface of the components simultaneously at a pre-determined temperature, followed by quenching. This process increases the hardenability to some extent, thus leading to an increase of rolling fatigue life of bearings by 300%, anti-crack strength, resistance to metallic and abrasive wear and improved impact strength.

eize Resistant Bearings, mainly used as idler in conveyor, have a definite feature Sover conventional deep groove ball bearings. Special attention is given in raceway design and geometry to avoid ball skidding in the bearing and misalignment between the housing and the shaft. Optimum sized steel balls are used to increase the basic capacity of these bearings and the width of the rings are reduced to prevent build-up of contamination in the rings. Flexible polyamide cage with special prong and perfect ball pocket design, ensure free ball rolling even under contaminated conditions. These bearings have an extended life, reduced sealing requirements and are designed to lower maintenance cost, and improve working time.
