O P E R AT I O N & AC T I VAT I O N

Orientation• The Tubing Drain is oriented in the tubing string with

the pin connection facing downward.

Preparation• Tubing Drains ship with full-complement of Shear

Screws installed. To adjust the activation pressure, remove screws as required.

Pressure Activation• activate the Tubing Drain in situ by pressurizing

the tubing string to at least the published activation pressure for the size of drain.

Mechanical Activation• all tubing drains can be activated manually on a

shop press with the optional Mechanical activation accessory.

The Tubing Drain body and Sleeve are refurbishable, however the shear screws and seals should not be reused. Each Tubing Drain has a size-specific refurbish-ment kit available, which includes:• Refurbishment Instructions• Replacement Seals• Full complement of Shear Screws.

2. Specify Connection Size (2-3/8 through to 5-1/2)

3. Specify Engagement Type (EUE, NUE, LCT)

4. Specify any options or accessories required.

M E C H A N I C A L AC T I VAT I O N

Tubing drains unactivated by pressure, but requiring refurbishment can be mechanically activated using the Mechanical activation Tool and a shop press capable of 5 tons (10,000 lbs) compressive force.

The Mechanical activation Tool is size-specific, and re-quires the use of Tubing Drain sleeves with an activation groove. Drains without the activation groove cannot be activated with this tool.

The Mechanical activation Tool conists of:• Split-ring, sized to fit in the Tubing Drain Sleeve

activation groove,• Knurled Retaining Ring, to secure and locate split

ring• Press Collar

all tool components are carbon steel, with zinc dichro-mate plating.
