Production Process of my School Magazine

Harry-Stephen Weedall

Starting the production of my magazine front cover

To design my front cover page i needed to use a software called ‘Photoshop.’ this software has all of the tools I will need when designing my front cover for my school magazine. To begin with i need to select a new blank document as I have done so, shown to the left of this slide.

The main background colour.By selecting the fill tool Iwas able to choose abackground for my frontcover. I chose green as it isa strong bright colour andlooks good with any text. This tool also allows youtoo fade a colour so i fadedmy green colour into aplain white at the top ofthe page where my titlewill go, as it adds theelement of creative designwhich makes my magazineunique.

Adding a TitleThe text tool helpedme to choose a title. The other tools at thetop of the documentthat show when youselect the text toolallowed me to edit mytext. Therefore i couldmake it larger orsmaller, bolder, italicetc. I made my titlered and bold in blockcapitals so it standsout.

Inserting an imageI have inserted an image by pressing file,Then import and selecting an imagefrom my desktop which has been savedin my area. I had to choose an imagethat I had taken which was a mediumclose up, to ensure that it fitted thecodes and conventions of a front covermagazine. The image needed to befitted at the correct size on the page andbe filling most of it, so it works as abackground for my cover lines etc.

Cropping the imageI used the magic wand tool totake away the backgroundbehind my main focus of myimage which was the boy. Itmade my front cover lookneater and allowed me tostretch the image of the boy tocover the whole page as itwould on the front cover of amagazine.

Completed Front CoverI used the text tool to insert text thatI needed to write my cover lines. The shape tool allowed me to insertthe boxes on to my front cover designbefore I added the text that went overit, it also allowed me to create otherfeatures such as the thinking bubbleand the strap line at the bottom of mypage. I could edit the text by selectingdifferent fonts and sizes which allowedme to make certain words stand out forexample the word ‘FREE’ at the bottomof the page at the start of the strapline. I needed this word to stand outbecause it is what's known as a‘buzzword,’ which is essential for mymagazine as it is on all of the codes andconventions for a front cover magazine.
