Production system production system+ =
Production is act of either “manufacturing of goods” or providing “services”.
System is an arrangement or assembly of inter-dependent processes that are based on some logic and function.
The methods, procedure or arrangement which includes all functions required to accumulate the inputs, process or reprocess the inputs, and deliver the marketable output.

Components of a production system
There are two components for a production system
Facilities
Manufacturing support systems
Facilities
The factory and equipment in the facility and the way the facility is organized (plant layout).
Facilities include the factory, production machines and tooling, material handling equipment, inspection equipment, and computer systems that control the manufacturing operations.
For the facilities, plant layout is a significant factor for the production system to be efficient.
Manufacturing support systems
Manufacturing systems include the logical groupings of equipment and workers in the factory. A combination of a group of workers and machines are termed as Production line.
The manufacturing system can be classified as the following three systems: 1) Manual work systems
2) Worker-machine systems
3) Automated systems
Manual work systems
Worker-machine systems
Automated systems
A worker performing one or more tasks without the aid of powered tools, but sometimes using hand tools.
Manual work systems
Worker-machine systems
Automated systems
A worker operating powered equipment.

Worker-machine systems
Automated systems
A process performed by a machine without direct participation of a human.

Aim of production system
The aim of a production system is to provide goods and services for mankind.

Characteristics features of production system
Production is an organized activity. The system transforms the various inputs into useful
outputs. Production system does not operate in isolation from the
other organizational systems. There exists a feedback about the activities which is
essential to control and improvesystem performance.
Challenges in manufacturing
The challenges in manufacturing includes
Changing market conditions – shift from seller’s market to buyer’s marketRate of change is fasterGlobal competitionNeed to be proactiveIncreased customer focus – the customers are less loyal.
Conclusion
Production system is a result of arranging inputs, their conversion process and output based on some logic and functions. Production system fails if any such arrangement made don't give a desired level of outcome.
