INTERNATIONAL BECHTEL CO. LTD

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. has appointed International Bech-tel Co. Ltd. (Bechtel) as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) contractor for its landmark Line 6 Expansion Project. Colt has been appointed by Bechtel as the contractor for delivery of static roof ventilators for potlines and ABF building.

BEST PRACTICAL MEANS

Due to the location of the new project, special attention is given to:

- Ambient design temperature +55°C during summer

- Typical Middle East environment:

- Marine conditions

- Dust

- The use of high material quality aluminium/ stainless steel fasteners.

CFDIn order to predict in advance the climatical conditions inside the potroom during metal production, Colt carried out a survey using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to show the capability of the roof ventilators. The CFD simulates flows and heat.

INSTALLATION OF THEROOFVENTILATOR

Large modules of the Labyrinth roof ventilator will be assembled at ground level and lifted to the roof. The unique design of the modules makes it possible to do the fixing to supporting steel structure just from the outside. This type of fixing makes sure there are no activities needed inside the building and results in reduced erection time and minimal disruption to work within the building.

ALUMINIUM BAHRAIN

Aluminium Bahrain has been consistently ranked as one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world and is known for its tech-nologically strength and high quality aluminium. Alba will be the world`s largest sigle-site aluminium smelter upon completion of the Line 6 Expasion Project, which will boost its production by 540,000metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) bringing Alba‘s total production capacity to 1,500,000 mtpa. Line 6 will have 424 pots that will use the proprietary EGA DX+ Ultra technology thus significantly increasing coerating efficiencies.
