Memory module expands capacity of Aptec computer

The 8M-byte memory modules allowmemory expansion in the Aptec I/OComputer to 200M bytes.

Aptec Computer Systems, Inc. hasbegun delivery of a high-density memorymodule that increases more than eightfoldthe memory capacity of its ModelIOC-2400 I/O Computer. By increasingthe computer's maximum capacity from

24M bytes to 200M bytes the product isclaimed to significantly speed system per-formance in memory-intensive applica-tions such as image and signal processing, data acquisition, real-time simulation, and modeling. The IOC-2400 is connected to a VAX

and creates an independent high-speed I/Oenvironment. It allows VAX-shared pe-ripherals-such as array processors, disks, tapes, and data-acquisition devices-tooperate at their full capacity, freed fromthe VAX bandwidth limitations.

Within the IOC, a high-speed internalbus provides 24M bytes/s sustained band-width. A series of intelligent device inter-faces controls the peripherals, data trans-fers, and on-the-fly computations withonly minimal involvement of the VAXCPU, VMS operating system, or the Uni-bus. From IM bytes to 200M bytes ofhigh-speed memory is directly accessibleby the attached peripherals and VAX toprovide an efficient buffer area for verylarge datasets.
