Problems How can you measure flow rate?

What happens when a water jet hits a wall with different geometric shapes?

Literature survey Make a literature survey. Search for what other

researchers did on the topics that you are interested in.

In this case, you need to search for ;

Flow rate measurement methods (for pipe flow and open channel flow)

Conservation of Energy. Flow rate measurement with venturimeter (Cengel and cimbala, chapter 5 and chapter 8)(Diameters are known, pressure to be measured)

Conservation of momentum (Cengel and Cimbala, chapter 6)

Homeworks- Literature survey(This section should be included into the Material andMethods section in your report)

Explain flow rate measurement methods.

Derive the flow rate equation for a venturimeter(diameters are known and you will measure the pressures during the experiment.)

Apply a momentum analysis to a system where water jet hits a curved and a flat wall.

Results and Discussion Gather your data and prepare tables and graphics with

them.

Compare the calculated and measured forces in Jet experiment.

Compare the forces applied to flat and curved walls.

Compare the flow rates (in venturi experiment)

ConclusionWrap up the aim, method and outcomes of your study emphasizing your key outcomes

Report Format1. INTRODUCTION

In this part, briefly explain what are the aim, method and outcomesof the report.

2. MATERIAL and METHOD

In this part, explain the working principles of the experimentalsetups with your own words. Also define the equations andmethodologies that you use in the report.

3. RESULTS and DISCUSSION

In this part, evaluate the findings, outcomes etc. that you obtainedduring the experiment. Do not forget that any number, graph, tableetc. without an explanation is meaningless.

4. CONCLUCION

Wrap up the aim, method and outcomes of your study emphasizingyour key outcomes.

AttentionPlease don’t forget to write down; Name of the Experiments Your name and surname Group No Student No Date and time of the experimenton the Lab report. If you forget to write down one of your friend’s nameon the report then your report will not be graded. If you fail to accomplish these tasks, your report willnot be graded.

Attention If you somehow miss to attend the Lab with your

group then attend the experiment with a make-upgroup.

If you are late for your experiment, attend the Lab witha make-up group.
