He was a member of Advisory Council for Health Research of World Health Organization South East Asia Region. Between 2006 and 2009, he was the Executive Chair to the Nepal Health Research Council, Government of Nepal. He has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to People’s Republic of China (2012- 2016). Dr. Sandro Galea, DPH Robert A. Knox Professor Dean, School of Public Health Boston University Dr. Galea is a physician and an epidemiologist. Prior to his appointment at Boston University, Dr. Galea served as the Gelman Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Dr Galea has a medical degree from the University of Toronto, and graduate degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University; he has an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow. He previously held several academic and leadership positions. He has published over 650 scientific journal articles, 50 chapters, and 12 books and his research has been featured extensively in current periodicals and newspapers. He was named one of TIME magazine’s epidemiology innovators and has been listed by Thomson Reuters as one of the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” for the Social Sciences. Prior to joining the faculty at BU in 2000, she was an investigator at the National Cancer Institute, where she led a large cohort study on the health risks of exposure to the synthetic hormone, diethylstilbestrol (DES) among women exposed during pregnancy and their offspring exposed in utero. Nepal faces triple burden of health problems (communicable diseases, non-

communicable diseases and trauma). Generation of strong evidence is

required in these sectors for policy and health action. For this, the capacity

of health managers, academicians and students needs to be improved in the

field of epidemiology which will be helpful for evidence based practice.

The major objectives of the conference and training are To share epidemiological methods used in health care settings, highlight

epidemiological transition phases and its use in evidence based policyand action.
