Workshop Description: A decoding and encoding program designed for older students who are still having difficulty mastering the reading process. Linguistics presents the history of written language, phonology, morphology, syntax, vocabulary, affixes, roots and word origins. Spelling is taught through the application of grapheme origin, frequency of use and place value organized into units of study.

BULLYING AND POWER DIFFERENTIAL MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2019
All schools have bullying response guidelines but sometimes struggle with understanding why the bulling is occurring. This workshop addresses the dynamics between bullies and victims. This workshop also explores the role bystanders play. Practical suggestions to deal with bullying will be given.
Navigating the Cyber World* TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2019
Geared for staff and parents, this workshop reviews the challenges and dangerous situations that may arise through use of the Internet, social media and smart phones. It is important for parents to be aware of the popular apps, social media sites and programs used by youth online. This workshop explains the issues and possible consequences from cyber bullying, sexting and revealing identifying information to strangers.
Understanding Marijuana Today* WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2019
The marijuana industry is coming to Massachusetts and bringing with it marketing to youth, home-grown plants, marijuana food items (edibles), and products containing high-levels of THC. This workshop aims to address the impacts of the new marijuana industry on youth and what schools can do to relay a clear, consistent message about this drug to students.
Q.P.R. Suicide Prevention TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2019
Q.P.R. stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in Q.P.R. learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. This workshop is presented by Minding Your Mind (MYM). Length: 2 hours.

Workshop Description: The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training program presents a crisis prevention and intervention model designed to teach staff how to help children learn constructive ways to handle crisis. The skills, knowledge, and professional judgment of staff in responding to crises are critical factors in helping young people learn constructive and adaptive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger, rejection, hurt, and depression. The purpose of the TCIS system is to provide a crisis prevention and intervention model for schools that will assist in: Preventing crises from occurring, de-escalating potential crises, effectively managing acute crises, reducing potential and actual injury to children and staff, learning constructive ways to handle stressful situations, and developing a learning circle within the organization.

Workshop Description: Restorative schools strive to create discipline systems that facilitate social and emotional learning for students, while supporting academic achievement and success in schools and the community. These workshops are designed to help staff and teachers learn fundamental restorative justice practices for the classroom and beyond. There will be three (3) workshops offering 3 PDPs each (which includes 2 hours of class time and a 1 hour follow up assignment -‐ to get credit for the class, the assignment must be completed and handed to the instructor). Workshop Description: Tools for Teaching by Fred Jones is a general classroom management and instruction book applicable to classrooms at all grade levels and in all content areas. This course will bring educators together to review the first half of the book in person and help teachers to prepare to start their year off with the right structures in place to be successful in the classroom. Participants will do the reading of the second half of the book on their own and interact through a discussion board and assignments on Google Classroom to refine their practice and reflect on the use of these strategies in their classes during the first month of the school year.
