Professional Divisions Manual

15http://www.new.ans.org/about/committees/pdc/

Flexibility of the Society's divisional organizational structure is important in such a rapidly developing field as nuclear energy. This can be assured by: (a) the merging of Divisions or Groups when scope and functions overlap or greater strength could be gained by broader interdisciplinary activity; (b) the formation of new Groups to foster new disciplines or change technical emphasis; (c) the dissolution of Groups or Divisions to reflect changes in emphasis.

Role of the PDC is to continually evaluate the Division structure

PDC Manual – Role of Divisions

http://www.new.ans.org/about/committees/pdc/ 16

Each division should have as primary aims:

(a) the promotion of high quality technical andscientific sessions at the annual meeting;

(b) sponsorship of topical meetings that are carefullyplanned with consideration of the relationship to the National Society meetings;

(c) sponsorship of special technical documents such as review articles and standards.

PD/TGs service to Society

http://www.new.ans.org/about/committees/pdc/ 17

Promote joint sponsorship of meetings by more than one division, treating a topic in depth and with interdisciplinary content.

Support and contribute to the functions and objectives of the Society; serve on national committees, the Board, and as officers.

Support the development of Society-sponsored short course programs with the Professional Development Coordination Committee.

Relationships with pertinent outside professional society activities should be maintained and strengthened.
