Professional

• Traditionally, religious leaders who had the highest level of wisdom and spiritual development

• Came to applied to people with knowledge in certain domains like engineering, medicine, accountancy, management, law-Commercial principles are associated with professionals

• As every occupation has an impact on the society and people with specialised knowledge

Ethics

• A system of values embedded in individuals that help institutions in having healthy operations without affecting the welfare of the society

• May be derived from parents, teachers, friends, associates or role models (authors or historical characters) or genetic

Need for Professional Ethics

• Society depends upon institutions like industry, business, utilities, government departments, NGOs, social groups

• Lack of ethics lead to instability leading to liquidation of the institutions affecting the lives of a great number of people

• Such a failure also leads curtailing income in the economy, availability of goods and services

Elements of Professional Ethics

-Non-Stop Competence Building-Integrity-Concern for Long Term Benefits-Commitment-Emotional equanimity-Immune to Worldly Weaknesses-Righteous Attitude

Non-Stop Competence Building-A healthy body and a sound mind-A continuous and sustained urge for learning-Knowledge accumulation for value addition rather than gaining materially-Understanding job requirement and matching individual skills-Going extra-mile in carrying out the job-Building up teams, groups and the future

Integrity

• Financial Integrity (misuse of institutional property, manipulated claims of allowances,

• Organisational Integrity (avoiding favouritism, caste affinity, regionalism)

• Understanding the tough job requirements of the subordinates (avoiding double talk)

• Treating people with courtesy and respect

Long Term Orientation

• Vision and mission of the institution (Ammembala, Amul, Tata Steel)

• Continuous product evaluation and development (Maggi)
