DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS July 2019

CALEA Assessment The department welcomed assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) during the department’s onsite assessment. The department has now completed its self-assessment, two mock assessments, and CALEA’s file and onsite assessments. The CALEA board will vote on awarding the department its first accreditation at their November conference. CALEA Accreditation is awarded to public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA standards. It recognizes agencies commitment to continual development and the professional delivery of public safety services.

Community Events The department participated in multiple community events this month. Officers provided services to ensure public safety during the 4th of July festivities, including the 5k, parade, and fireworks without incident. Two officers attended the annual Taste of New Albany Event, which features local area restaurants and food vendors, ensuring the safety of all guests. Additionally, second shift officers continue to be present at the New Albany Community Farmers Market every Thursday evening.

New Member of the Department

The city welcomed Megan Benn to the department’s administrative assistant position. Megan graduated

from the Ohio State University and then worked for the Department of Justice in New York City. Megan has

completed her first month with the department and has quickly begun to contribute to the department’s

effort to serve the community.

I. Administrative Information

Chaplain Name: Debra Lowery Month / Year: July 2019

III. Activity Detail

Along with Chief Jones and Sergeant Fernander, I was privileged to attend the graduation ceremony of new officer Mike Cohrs who was a member of the 131st Recruit Class of the Columbus Police Training Academy. It was wonderful to witness this milestone with Officer Cohrs and celebrate with his family. Supported the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) process by attending the Public Hearing and participating in an interview with the CALEA auditors. Participated in ride-a-longs with two of our newer officers to become better acquainted and to share with them an overview of the chaplain program.
