Professor Pina D’Agostino

Professor Pina D’Agostino is a law professor, lawyer and recognized international scholar at Osgoode Hall Law School specializing in intellectual property, technology and innovation law and policy. Prof D’Agostino is regularly funded for her research, is called by the Canadian and Foreign governments for advice, is a widely published author and a cited authority at the Supreme Court of Canada and in various media. She is the Founder and Director of IP Osgoode, the IP Intensive, and the Innovation Clinic, the first legal clinic of its kind helping inventors and start-ups. She was an Associate for a large Toronto firm and recruited into the Canadian Government by the Recruitment of Policy Leaders as a Senior Policy Analyst. She serves as Director to the Alectra Inc. Board and Chairs its new GRE&T centre advancing innovation and sustainable energy solutions. Prof D'Agostino has a Masters and Doctorate in Law (University of Oxford), an LLB

(Osgoode Hall Law School) and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Co-Chair of the York University AI & Society Task Force, appointed to the Working Group of the Ontario Government Expert Panel on Intellectual Property and Commercialization and appointed to the City of Vaughan Smart City Task Force. Prof D’Agostino is the recipient of various honours and awards and is currently working on two books in the areas of copyright, AI and technology, innovation law and policy and works tirelessly to advance women’s and more diverse voices in Canada’s innovation landscape.

Dr. Aviv Gaon

Dr. Aviv Gaon earned his Ph.D. in Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto Canada in 2019. Dr. Gaon is a member of IP Osgoode Center for Intellectual Property and Technology, and a 2019-2020 Fellow at The Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. Dr. Gaon specializes in Intellectual Property, Law & Technology and Competition Law. Dr. Gaon earned his bachelor and master degrees in Law (LL.B & LL.M) at IDC Herzliya ,and upon completion of his legal studies, joined top Israeli law firm as an associate at the Competition & Antitrust Department, where he provided legal counsel to individuals and companies with respect to a wide range of legal issues. In his academic capacities, Dr. Gaon is the Director of IDC Herzliya Experiential Programs, the Director of Harry Radzyner Law School Honorary Program and a lecturer at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Dr. Gaon recent publications focus on legal

implications and regulation of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.

Prof. Dov Greenbaum Prof. Greenbaum has degrees and postdocs from Yeshiva University, Yale University, the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University and ETH Zurich. Prof. Greenbaum’s doctoral research focused on informatics and big data. Prof. Greenbaum is a licensed attorney before the State of California and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional. Prof. Greenbaum has practiced law in Silicon Valley and in Israel. Prof. Greenbaum directs the Zvi Meitar Institute for Legal Implications of Emerging Technologies and has a joint appointment at Yale University as an adjunct professor in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. .

Prof. Teresa Scassa

Dr. Teresa Scassa is the Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. She is the author or co-author of several books, including Canadian Trademark Law (2d edition, LexisNexis 2015), and Electronic Commerce and Internet Law in Canada, (CCH Canadian Ltd. 2012) (winner of the 2013 Walter Owen Book Prize). She is a past member of the External Advisory Committee of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and of the Canadian Government Advisory Committee on Open Government. She is a member of the GEOTHINK research partnership, and has written widely in the areas of intellectual property law, law and technology, and privacy.

Dr. Ian Stedman Dr. Stedman is an incoming Assistant Professor of Canadian Public Law & Governance (tenure track) in the School of Public Policy within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University.

He is also currently a post-doctoral fellow at Dr. Rebecca Pilla Riddell’s O.U.C.H. Lab at York University, researching the Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. In 2018-2019 he held the inaugural research Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence Law and Ethics at the Centre for Computational Medicine at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

His research program is focused both on the law of public sector governance and accountability and also on bringing that literature to bear on the regulation of innovative and emerging technologies (particularly in healthcare).

He dedicates much of my time to raising awareness about the many challenges faced by those who live with chronic illnesses and trying to find ways to help improve the lives of others. As part of his work in the health space, Dr. Stedman has joined the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Research Ethics Board as a legal member, he is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders (CORD) and the Government of Ontario’s Rare Disease Implementation Plan Steering Committee, a member of Rare Disease International’s (RDI) Working Group on Rare Disease Research (which represents the global rare disease patient community on the NGO Committee for Rare Diseases and has consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council) and serve as member of the panel of experts for the European Union’s Rare2030 Project.

Dr. Stedman also serves as a member of York University’s Artificial Intelligence and Society Task Force and as a member of SickKids Hospital’s Artificial Intelligence in Medicine for Kids (AIM4Kids) Task Force.

Ms. Carole Piovesan Carole is a Partner and co-Founder of INQ Data Law where she focuses on data governance, privacy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Prior to co-founding INQ, Carole was a lawyer at McCarthy Tetrault where she served as co-lead of the firm’s National Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Management group and a lead on Artificial Intelligence.

Carole has advised the Canadian government on legal and policy issues related to AI, and regularly advises companies on issues related to their collection, storage and use of data. Carole is a recognized expert on legal and policy issues relating to data and AI, and is a frequent speaker and author on these topics.

Mr. John Weigelt John Weigelt is the National Technology Officer for Microsoft Canada, based in Ottawa, Ontario. His role involves sharing Microsoft Canada’s strategic policy and technology efforts with the government, education and healthcare communities. Mr. Weigelt helps individual and organizations across Canada innovate with technology while avoiding the unintended consequences that might arise. He leads Canadian outreach for a variety of technology policies including: Economic Development, Privacy, Security, Government 3.0, Accessibility, Environmental Sustainability and Interoperability.

John has been the Senior Director of Architecture, Standards and Engineering at the Chief Information Officer Branch of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and has worked for the Department of National Defense. John has a Master’s degree in Computer and

Communications Security from the Royal Military College of Canada.

Prof. Lior Zemer Lior Zemer joined the Harry radzyner Law School in 2006. Before his PhD studies and after his LL.B Lior completed two Masters’ degrees . An M.St (with distinction) from Oxford University, and LL.M (magna cum laude) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Dr. Zemer is a Visiting Associate Professor at Boston University School of Law. He previously taught at the faculties of law in Leicester and Birmingham, UK, and Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Toronto. Prior to joining legal academia he served as the assistant lawyer to Judge J.D. Cooke at the European Court of First Instance and Judge S. von Bahr at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Dr. Zemer's research interests include Intellectual property law and policy, jurisprudence, international and European law.
