ABOUT THE WORLD CONSUMERS RIGHTS DAY (WCRD):

The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is celebrated every year on March 15 to pay solidarity with the international consumer

movement and give more attention to promote basic rights of consumers....

Significance of The Day: It provides (i) an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers (ii) demand those rights that must be respected and protected and (iii) for those protesting against the market abuses and social injustices.

Each year, World Consumer Rights Day adopts a theme to highlight.

2019 Theme:“Trusted Smart Products”.....Background: The WCRD commemorate the historic address given by the then US President John F Kennedy to the US congress on March 15 in 1962.

In his historic address he had outlined the definition of consumer rights for the first time. He was the first world leader to formally define ‘consumer rights’. President John F. Kennedy said: Consumers by definition include us all. They are the largest economic group, affecting and affected by almost every public and private economic decision. Yet they are the only important group… whose views are often not heard.

Consumer organizations around the world use materials produced by Consumers International (CI) to generate local initiatives and media coverage for their work over the coming year.

The “CONSUMERS WALK”“Walking Together For Our Consumer Rights”

We consume every day and in every part of our lives. We are all consumers, every day, everywhere. And when things go wrong we pay the price. Sometimes that price is something small, sometimes the price can be our health, our rights, our lives.

Significance of The Consumers Walk. The Consumers Walk marks the World consumers rights week, as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs.

And also serves as a reminder to the world about the importance of observing and enforcing consumer rights.

Many consumers still lack basic protections and as the world has globalized and digitalized, changes to the global marketplace are outpacing consumer protection.

Too often consumers are left at a disadvantage with the companies and governments they encounter, leaving them exposed to unsafe, unfair or unethical practice.

We believe that all people have a right to access safe goods and quality services, to be treated fairly and offered effective solutions if things go wrong.

The walk ensures that everyone has access to safe and sustainable products and services and brings together organizations, companies, NGO’s, Government bodies to empower and champion the rights of consumers in Uganda.

Celebrating the day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and to protest against market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights.Background.The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is

Safeness, Fairness & Honesty

13thMarch 2019

15www.eabusinessconsumerexpo.com

EABCExpo - 2019celebrated every year on March 15 to pay solidarity with the international consumer movement and give more attention to promote basic rights of consumers. This year the theme promoted is “Trusted Smart Products”.

The WCRD Day was inspired by President John F Kennedy, who sent a special message to the US Congress on 15th March 1962, in which he formally addressed the issue of consumer rights. He was the first world leader to do so. The consumer movement first marked that date in 1983 and now uses the day every year to mobilise action on important issues and campaigns.

“The fun non-competitive walking event will bring together the wider community in Uganda, and we hope we will be able to raise awareness and vital funds to support people in need - in our home nation.

All funds raised at the event will be donated to Orphanage homes.Consumers guide magazine is committed to ensure safeness, fairness and honesty in the marketplace to improve the quality of life.

You already know walking can make a difference to your own health. When you walk for a cause, even with a walking cane, it might just make a difference for someone else too. Walking for a cause is good for both your body and your spirit. It’s a great way to stay active while giving back to the community, and whatever cause is closest to your heart, there’s probably a walk to support it.
