KEY PERSONNEL

ESP Technologies (P) Ltd, Chennai is owned and managed by Mr.

S. Balagurunathan.

S. BALAGURUNATHAN is a Post Graduate in engineering with

specialization in the Design and Production of Thermal Power

Equipment. He is a retired Executive Director from Bharat Heavy

Electricals Limited (BHEL), a premier organization in India

engaged in the design, manufacture, erection, operation and

maintenance of power plants in India and abroad. He had served

this organization for almost 38 years in various capacities since

1968. During his tenure in BHEL, he had been involved in all

aspects of ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR technology including

the technical marketing, engineering (for new and retrofit /

upgrade applications), research and development, erection, commissioning and trouble shooting of ESP.

He was head of the engineering and external services departments of electrostatic precipitator in BHEL,

Ranipet, India.

During his tenure in BHEL, he had been directly involved in the engineering and execution of major

contracts for electrostatic precipitators with many reputed power generating corporations like National

Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Reliance Energy Limited (REL),

various State Electricity Generating Corporations (GENCOs) and Independent Power Generating

Corporations (IPPs) like JSW Energy Limited (JSWEL), Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), CESC etc.

and large cement and paper manufacturing companies like Associated Cement Companies (ACC),

Tamilnadu Cements Corporation (TANCEM), Diamond Cements, ITC (PSPD), Tamilnadu Newsprint &

Paper Ltd (TNPL) etc., for applications in coal-fired boilers, cement plants, paper & pulp plants etc. He

had served in a number of technical committees constituted by reputed organizations including the

Central Pollution Control Board of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (Government of India),

Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of the Ministry of Power (Government of India), Department of

Science & Technology (DST) of Government of India etc., and had significantly contributed on matters

related to the controlling of particulate emissions from stationary sources.

He is currently the Managing Director of ESP Technologies (P) Ltd, a company which is owned by him

and provides comprehensive engineering and technical consultancy services in all aspects of

ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS for application in power and other industries. The list of reputed

clients served / being served by ESP Technologies (P) Ltd is furnished below.

With an experience spanning over 46 years, he brings with him a very deep and extensive knowledge of

all aspects of the electrostatic precipitator with particular reference to handling of highly resistive fly

ashes resulting from the combustion of Indian coals.

SPECIALIZED ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL SERVICES IN RESPECT OF ELECTROSTATIC

PRECIPITATORS OF CHINESE MAKE INSTALLED IN POWER PLANTS IN INDIA.

ESP Technologies (P) Ltd is well conversant and knowledgeable with the technical details of the electrostatic

precipitators of Chinese make and had provided such technical and engineering services including the site

supervision to many clients having such ESP installations in their power plants. The electrostatic precipitators of

Chinese-make installed in many of the coal-fired power plants in India are invariably fitted with SPIKE /

BARBED TYPE EMITTNG ELECTRODES IN THE FIELDS LOCATED AT THE INLET SECTIONS OF

ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS. The electrical performance of these types of electrodes had been

observed to be far from satisfactory due to many reasons like the defective design and mounting arrangement,

faulty erection etc., resulting in poor availability of the fields and the overall performance of the electrostatic

precipitator. The plant engineers had also faced serious problems in the operation and maintenance of the

electrostatic precipitators fitted with such type of emitters.

ESP TECHNOLOGIES (P) Ltd, Chennai had successfully replaced these SPIKE / BARBED

EMITTERS OF THE CHINESE – MAKE ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS WITH SPECIALLY

ENGINEERED SPIRAL EMITTERS in a large operating plant. The electrical performance of the

fields replaced with spiral emitters had been excellent both on air-load as well as on gas-load as

shown in the Voltage –Current (V-I) curves below. The conversion had been tailor-made to suit

the plant requirements without the need to carry out any major modifications to the emitting

system frame-work and its suspension systems including the rapping mechanisms and their

drives.

SUCCESSFUL REPLACEMENT OF SPIKE / BARBED EMITTERS OF CHINESE-MAKE ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS INSTALLED IN INDIAN POWER PLANTS

Based on the successful implementation and the demonstration of the improved availability and

electrical performance of the fields retro-fitted with SPIRAL EMITTERS, the client has placed repeat

orders for carrying out similar conversion in the additional units installed at the same power

station. ESP TECHNOLOGIES (P) Ltd, Chennai shall be pleased to provide such services to the plant

authorities who have installed Chinese-make electrostatic precipitators which are provided with

such SPIKE EMITTERS, if so desired by them.
