Objective

Improving the knowledge of young scientists about the chemoecological research by the cooperation with European laboratories.

Methodology & study materials

Short term visits connected with the use of attractants/antiattractants in the forest protection against bark and wood boring insects:Continuous networking by common field experiments and current e-mail contacts.Current contacts during various scientific meetings.

Page 4: PROFOREST WP 7.2

Internal visits: dr Jaroslav Holuša from the Forestry and Game

Management Research Institute Jiloviště-Strnady, Czech Republic (June/July 2004).

Goals:extension of the knowledge about the chemical communication in insects, research methods and results, and perspectives for forestry;definition of possibilities for common research on the attractants and antiattractants of bark beetles feeding on Norway spruce;

Timing: visit planned for Month 16, executed in Month 15Changes resulted from natural conditions and current activities

Page 5: PROFOREST WP 7.2

Internal visits: dr Rastislav Jakuš from Institute of Forest Ecology,

Slovak Academy of Sciences, Zvolen, Slovakia (Febuary 2005)

Goals:definition of possibilities for common research on the attractants and antiattractants of bark beetles feeding on Norway spruce – working meeting with doc. Fredrik Schlyter (SLU Alnarp) and doc. Petr Zahradnik (FGMRI Jiloviště-Strnady), before the PROFOREST Advisory Board meeting in Kraków;

Timing: visit not planned, executed in Month 23(good opportunity for discussions before 2005 vegetation

season)

Milestones

WP7.2-D. Reports on common laboratory and field research using attractants and anti-attractants in the protection of forests against pest insects.

Milestone in the year 2 planned for Month 16.

Common experiments prepared and started in the summer 2004 (Month 16, data not finally processed.
