Presenter: Stephanie Selesnick, CEM, President, International Trade Information

In this session we will hear from Stephanie Selesnick one of the global industry’s most connected communicators and strategists. She will discuss the trends driving the global exhibition and event industry. How should the industry respond to secure a strong future? And importantly, how can Australia internationalise its events?

Stephanie was born into the exhibition industry and worked at her first trade show when she was 10 years old. She has launched exhibitions in the United States and Mexico. She now coaches, commentates, publishes and also represents the Shanghai New International Expo.

Topic - Workplace Culture, Recruitment and Retention – How do we get the settings right so that we can drive innovation and sustainability.

Presenter: Margaret Ma Connolly, Chief Executive Officer, Informa Markets in Asia

In this session we will hear from Margaret Ma Connolly, one of Asia’s most dynamic leaders of the exhibition and events industry. Not only is Margaret working in one of the fastest growing regions of the world but she is also bringing together the workforces of two mighty companies – Informa and UBM which came together in one of the biggest mergers and acquisitions in the industry’s history. What can we learn from Margaret’s HR philosophies and practices? How can we design a workplace that brings out the best talent and capabilities of our people?

Topic - Australia’s Business Events environment - An update from Tourism Australia.

Presenter: John O’Sullivan, Managing Director, Tourism Australia

John will provide an update on the visitor economy and the performance of the business events sector. He’ll also discuss the Beyond 2020 Strategy, the bid-fund and Tourism Australia’s own trade events program. The Bid-Fund was launched in early 2018 and has enabled Australia to secure more events for cities across Australia. One year on, John will provide an update on the fund and the other programs of Tourism Australia.

Topic - Towards a Sustainability Framework for the industry – EEAA reports back.

Presenter: Leighton Wood, Chief Operating Officer, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre and EEAA Board Member

Leighton Wood, has chaired the Association’s Environmental Sustainability Working Group which is looking at how the industry can reduce its environmental footprint, waste output and what goes to land-fill. In this session Leighton will report back on what has been achieved and will map out a blueprint for the next 12 months. Collaboration is the key and we will hear about EEAA’s next steps in leading the industry.

Topic - Creating Australia’s first surplus food online marketplace.

Presenter: Katy Barfield, CEO and Founder, Yume Food Australia

Katy Barfield is an inspirational business leader who has won a plethora of awards. Hear what she has to say about why sustainability makes good business sense and how the events industry can benefit from revisiting its approach to procurement of food. Katy heads one of only three companies globally using technology to offer an innovative market for surplus food. The Yume platform allows food manufacturers and primary producers to on-sell their quality surplus products to commercial buyers at a discount. Katy will share her road to success and explore what is possible if you work in collaboration to change behaviours and procurement policies.

Join our venue partner to see the back-of-house processes that have helped the venue and its clients manage and reduce waste. The MCEC won the EEAA’s best Corporate Citizenship Award in 2018. It continues to drive innovation and change. MCEC has reduced its carbon emission since 2015 by 16% during a period of 68% revenue growth.
