What is the Chartered Marketer Designation?- The CM designation is awarded to candidates who complete a rigorous, engaging and comprehensive professional development program o�ered by the Canadian Marketing Association.
- Two years ago, the CMA identified an opportunity to create a path for professional development for today’s emerging marketers. The CM designation will be a mark of the highest professional standards in marketing.
Why does the Chartered Marketer Program exist?- The marketing profession was the only profession that did not have a post-graduate program of applied knowledge and skills leading to a professional designation.
- In 2014 and 2016, CMA commissioned research on CMA usage and attitudes as well as member engagement. Research results showed that the marketing industry would highly value a comprehensive program of marketing professional development, leading to a designation and that CMA was the best organization to develop and o�er this.
How did the Chartered Marketer Program evolve? - To create awareness and build support for the new designation, CMA announced a limited period of time in
which proven marketing leaders with 10 years or more of senior marketing/marketing teaching experience
could apply for the designation, ahead of the build and launch of the full program.
- To date, more than 260 marketing leaders have received or applied for the designation, this path will close
December 31, 2018.
- The CM program is now fully launched with the first Prep Course that started in October 2018.

Support the Marketing ProfessionNearly all other professions in Canada have a professional designation. As the voice of the marketing profession in Canada, CMA is keenly interested in filling the gap for marketing professionals by creating a designation to add consistent standards to our industry. The CM designation provides a path for marketers in their professional development.
