Nick  Dempsey  Nick  Dempsey   is  a  Sydney  University  Water  Polo  player  who  enjoyed  success   in  the  sport  throughout  his   junior  and  senior  playing  years.  The  Albury  –  born  product  attended  Newington  College  (Stanmore)  and  represented  Australia  in  Water  Polo,  travelling  to  Turkey  to  compete  at  the  U18  World  Championships  in  2014.  Recently  he  has  enjoyed  playing  football  back  home  in  the  Riverina.

In  early  2017  Nick  suffered  a  spinal   injury  after  a  pool  related  accident  at  his  21st  Birthday  party.  After  being  airlifted  to  Alfred  Hospital  he  was  classified  as  a  C4  quadriplegic,  yet  remains  remarkably  optimistic  about  his  future.  As  he  explained,  he  didn’t  completely  sever  his  spinal  cord  and  thus  holds  hope  to  make  a  substantial  recovery.

Currently,   Nick   is   undergoing   an   intensive   rehabilitation   scheme,   slowly   but   surely   regaining   strength   and   muscle   coordination.   New  technologies  such  as  the  FES  arm  cycle  and  hydrotherapy  have  played  a  positive  role  in  his  recovery.  Overall  however  it  has  been  the  inspiring  support  of  his  friends  and  family  throughout  his  live  changing  year  that  have  given  him  such  strength.  You  can  follow  Nick  in  his  road  to  recovery  on  his  Facebook  page;  Nick’s  Journey.

The  Australian  Spinal  Research  Foundation  Founded  in  1977,  the  Australian  Spinal  Research  Foundation  is  internationally  the  largest  chiropractic  research  funding  organisation.  They  have  contributed  greatly,  having  funded  183  research  projects  in  40  years  totaling  over  AUD  $2M.    The  Foundation  is  registered  with  the  Australian  Tax  Office  and  is  recognised  as  an  approved  Deductible  Gift  Recipient  for  tax  deductible  donations  made  by  Australian  residents.  More  recently  the  Foundation  has  become  recognized  through  the  CAF  America  system  for  USA  based  residents  to  make  tax  deductible  donations.

In  2010  the  Foundation  signed  a  Memorandum  of  Understanding  with  the  Hamblin  Chiropractic  Research  Fund  Trust  (NZ)  to  work  together  in  funding  chiropractic  research.    Their  role  within  the  profession  is  to  remain  at  the  leader  in  facilitating  the  investigation  of  how  chiropractic  contributes  to  community  health  and  well-‐being,  and  therefore  our  mission  is  “to  facilitate  research  that  furthers  the  understanding  and  development  of  chiropractic  care”

On  the  Day    Currently  our  hosts  Knox  Grammar  School  are  undergoing  construction  near  the  pool  and  as  a  result  it  will  be  extremely  difficult  to  find  a  good  parking  spot  in  Wahroonga.    It  is  highly  recommended  that  you  park  in  the  neighbouring  suburb  Warrawee,  potentially  in  Borambil  Street  or  near  Warrawee  Train  Station.  From  there  you  will  be  able  to  enter  the  school  through  the  Borambil  gate  and  have  a  short  walk  along  the  driveway  to  the  pool.
