CAN I BE A MEMBER ?You do not have to be a resident of the Town of Colonie to be a member of the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Cen-ter. Everyone is invited to join the area’s most unique fitness, recreation, and aquatics center. Your membership provides you with access to all of the Center’s amenities, which include gym space, an elevated running track, and complete fitness center. Also included is the aquatics center, featuring multiple activities for adults and children alike. Start with a dip in the 25 yard lap pool, and then relax in the warm water spa. Kids will be amazed by the massive beach entry pool that incorporates a multi-loop water slide, lazy river, and splash and sprayground water features.

Gift Certificates Are Available for Purchase.The Colonie Youth Center and Ciccotti Center offer many pro-grams, classes and activities for children and adults. Giftcertificates in any denomination make a great gift and can be used toward the purchase of annual memberships, day passes, or any fee-based program, class or activity we offer to Ciccotti Center members and non-members. The Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center is a project of the Colonie Youth Center (CYC), an independent not-for-profit organization. Established in 1965, CYC annually provides family counseling services, school age child care, fitness and recreation programs to 20,000 families and individuals of all ages. CYC relies in part on generous donations from individuals and busi-nesses in our community.

GENERAL CYC PROGRAM POLICIES

You may register in person at the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Rec-reation Center or the CYC Administrative Office or by mail.Registrations are also accepted by fax or telephone if paying by credit card. All programs have minimum and maximumenrollment limits. Please register early.

Release of LiabilityAll participants must have a Release of Liability form on file prior to using the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center or any Colonie Youth Center program. Youth under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on this form. For safety, children ages 12-16 are required to have a Parental Informed Consent Form on file with the fitness department in order to use the Fitness Center under direct parental supervision.

Photo ReleaseThe Colonie Youth Center reserves the right to take and pub-lish photographs and/or video of CYC facilities, programs andparticipants for our promotional purposes.

CancellationsCYC reserves the right to cancel any program for insufficient enrollment, inclement weather, unavailability of facilities, etc.

Inclement WeatherIn the event of inclement weather, please check local televi-sion news stations or the Times Union web-site for informa-tion regarding delays or cancellations of CYC programs and/or the Ciccotti Center.

Program EligibilityEligibility for any CYC program, including membership at the Ciccotti Center, is contingent upon customer’s account being in good standing.

RefundsPartial refunds may be issued if notification of withdrawal is received in writing at least two weeks prior to the start of the program. You will be contacted regarding the refund amount, if any, you will receive.All information contained in this program guide is subject to change.

COUNSELING

Colonie Youth Center Counseling ProgramThe Colonie Youth Center has provided free and low cost counseling services to residents of Colonie and their families for over 20 years. The counseling staff consists of four highly qualified counselors in the areas of individual, fam-ily and group modalities.

Cory McCarthy, MS has worked in a variety of capacities since comple-tion of a master’s degree in 1993. Cory’s post degree experiences include individual, group and family counseling, design and implementation of psycho-educational curriculum, career counseling, parenting seminars and college level classroom instruction. Cory has had numerous collaborative professional relationships with Capital District schools, colleges, court systems and mental health agencies and has worked with diverse populations.

Karen Beetle, MA, NCC has a master’s degree in Counseling Psychol-ogy and is a nationally certified counselor. Karen joined CYC in 2001 as the coordinator of Double Rainbow (formerly PRISM), a psycho-educational group counseling program. Prior to working at CYC, Karen provided mediation and violence prevention services to schools, community groups and families. Her counsel or training includes expressive arts, mind body psychology and play therapy.

Paul Scott, MA has worked primarily as a counselor in private practice since 1981. The focus of his training has been in mind/body therapy. In his practice, he has done individual, group, and family therapy with particular emphasis on groups dealing with the ways in which mind/body therapy can be used to help people access and make sense of strong feelings.

Pat Gray, LMSW, has a master’s degree in social work and is a certified school social worker. She currently works as a student assistance counselor in the South Colonie School District and joined the CYC Counseling Program in Fall 2008. She has practiced social work in a variety of settings since 1983, including schools, healthcare, mental health, psychiatry and geriatrics. Her training includes individual, group and family counseling.

School Age Child Care BasicsThe Colonie Youth Center’s School Age Child Care (SACC) Department operates several programs located in the North and South Colonie School Districts. The philosophy of these programs are to provide a child centered environment in which children are given the opportunity to grow, learn, so-cialize, and have fun.

The School Age Child Care Department includes Before School and After School Programs, Vacation Camp Programs, and Summer Day Camps. The Before and After School Pro-grams are registered with the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS); the Summer Day Camps are permit-ted by the Albany County Department of Health.

The School Age Child Care staff are committed to providing quality care for your child. All staff meet the requirements setforth by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and/or the Albany County Department of Health. School agechildcare staff are provided ongoing training throughout the year to ensure that we reach a high standard of care for your child.

SPRING PRE-SCHOOL AQUATICS

Parent and TotThese parent child swim lessons are designed to teach basic water readiness and the beginning stroke technique. Through the use of songs, games and toys children will feel comfort-able in the water and learn basic water safety. Super TotThese advanced parent child swim lessons will concentrate more on stroke development and less on songs and games. Parents will be learning how to teach their children how to swim. There will be the introduction of blowing bubbles and basic kicking and paddling. Water Exploration (Preschool)This program introduces children to basic water safety. Participants will learn to feel safe in and around the water and begin to learn how to swim. Private Swim LessonsThese one-on-one lessons are for children or adults. Les-sons are set up by appointment only. You may sign up for one lesson or a block of 5 lessons. These lessons will be designed to fit the need of the swimmer. After an initial evaluation, the swimmer and instructor will determine what skills need to be covered. SPRING YOUTH AQUATICS

American Red Cross Swim LessonsThis progressive program will teach participants how to swim in a logical progression and be safe in and around the water. Classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment. Our Learn-To-Swim program is for swimmers ages 5 years and older. It is strongly recommended that youth have already participated in our water exploration program. In order to register for levels 2-6, parents must present their American Red Cross card proving successful completion of the previous level. Otherwise, please contact our Aquatic Department to set up an evaluation before registering your child. Classes will run once a week for seven weeks. NOTE: Monday-Friday after 4:15pm water features will be on during swim lessons.

Our American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program is comprised of 6 levels and will cover the following skills:• Water entry and exit• Breathing control and underwater swimming• Buoyancy• Changing direction and treading water• Swimming on front, back and side • All 4 Competitive strokes• Turns• Water fitness• Water safety

Level 1: Introduction to Water SkillsObjective: To help students feel comfortable in the water and learn how to safely enjoy the water. Lessons include: Basic water safety rules, using a life jacket, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, swimming on front and back using arm and leg ac-tions, exhaling underwater and floating on front and back. Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic SkillsObjective: To give students success with fundamental skills. Pre-requisites include ability to fully submerge face for a minimum of 3 seconds, float on back and front with assistance, and dem-onstrate safe water/pool entries and exits. Skills introduced in-clude: Submerging entire head, front and back glides, bobbing in water, treading water using arm and leg motions, jellyfish float, swimming using combined strokes on front and back, recogniz-ing swimmers in distress and getting help.Dates: Mondays, 4:30 - 5:15pmDates: Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15pmDates: Thursdays, 3:45-4:30pm Dates: Fridays, 5:30 - 6:15pmDates: Saturdays, 9:00 - 9:45am, or 10:00 - 10:45am, or 11:00 - 11:45am

Level 3: Stroke DevelopmentObjective: To build on the fundamental skills (see Level 2) through guided practice. Prerequisites include demonstrated ability to perform unsupported 5-second float or glide on front and back, and independent swimming on front and back for a minimum of 5 yards. Skills introduced include: reaching assists, swimming without assistance, front and back crawl stroke, and rotary breathing in horizontal position, butterfly kick and body motion, survival floats and retrieving underwa-ter objects. First analysis is FREE for adult members (ages 18-80). Subsequent analyses are $15.00 per test. Appointments made in person in the Fitness Department.

Personal TrainingThe certified personal trainer will provide professional as-sistance by evaluating, designing, and monitoring a specialized exercise program for the member based on their health and fitness goals. BASEBALL CAMP

Boys “Turn Two” Baseball Camp & a day at Yankee Stadium- The goal of this camp is to provide excellent instruction in a positive learning environment. Campers will receive in-depth training in the fundamentals of hitting, bunting, pitching, catch-ing, fielding, and positional play. Campers can then apply skills and develop team strategy through tournament play. The camp will have access to batting cages. Age groups will practice separately on different fields, but both groups will go to the pool and the ball game together.

On Wednesday, July 22nd the entire camp will be attending the NY Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles, at the New Yankee Sta-dium, game time 1:05pm. The bus will leave from the camp site at 7:30am and return to Camp by 9:00pm. All campers will be required to bring a bag lunch and an extra snack for the trip. We will stop on our way home to have dinner, so please send extra money with your child.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday campers are required to bring their own glove, hat, sneakers/cleats, swimsuit, towel, and lunch. Please dress according to the weather.

All Sports Day CampNo arts, no crafts, no cooking - JUST SPORTS! Try your hand at a variety of sports in our All Sports Day Camp designed for the athletic, sports-loving kid.

The goal of the Colonie Youth Center All Sports Camp is to provide children in grades 5th - 8th with a healthy, safe envi-ronment where they will receive instruction as well as have fun playing various sports such as basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football, kickball, tennis, and much more in a camp setting. The camp provides instruction through drills, lectures, demonstrations, and videos. There will also be daily scrim-mages and contests. The itinerary will also include swimming Monday - Thursday at Town of Colonie Pool. Upon registration you will receive a more detailed sports camp application including a medical form, camp policies and procedures manual, and a camp activities calendar. The calendar will give you a daily schedule, field trip departure and return times, and what your child needs to bring to camp. Camp will operate rain or shine.

Colonie Youth Center and Noel Gebauer, Town of Colonie Head Golf Professional and 2003 NENYPGA “Teacher of the year” and Assistant Golf Professional Matt Bogdanowicz, are pleased to offer a variety of new and improved golf clinics and programs. All clinics and programs will be held at the Town of Colonie Golf Course. Please note that the clinics are se-quential – participants must successfully complete a beginner clinic prior to taking an intermediate, and so on. Class size for clinics will be at least four students and no more than ten. This guarantees individual attention for each student. Computer Learning/Technology Education – Summer ProgramThis one day a week summer program for young minds will enhance their creative abilities while exploring new tech-nologies to create unique projects. Below is a week by week course outline of what the children will experience:Digital Camera Class – Children will learn the basics of to use a digital camera. They will take photographs and use the computer to add special effects to the pictures.We Can Make Our Own Book! – Children will use Story-book Weaver to create and print a 5-7 page story.T-Shirt Making – The children will create and print a t-shirt design and the instructor will iron it onto the child’s shirt.Let’s Make a Greeting Card – We will create, customize and print our own special cards for family or a special friend. ART:KidzArt Summer Camp: – Zoofari (Animals with an attitude from a different latitude!)Grab your jungle hats, we’re going on safari! Check out all kinds of cool creatures and the places they live. Learn how to draw some of your favorite animals – anyone can be an art-ist! Try some bold patterns, colors and crazy animal designs. Packed with 2-D and 3-D projects too!At KidzArt Camp, your child’s self-expression and self-esteem will soar! This summer, give your child the opportunity to learn drawing skills that will last a lifetime through fun art exercises and techniques that anyone can follow.

This Camp is held in a supportive and non-competitive atmo-sphere, complete with soothing music that allows each partici-pant to feel relaxed, and ready to create. KidzArt Camp is not just for “artistic”children, so even a child that’s never taken an art class before will be creating works of art by the end of the program. Each student at the KidzArt Camp will have access to the highest quality, professional art materials. Each camp will be taught by talented and certified instructors. Wanted: 3rd - 5th Grade Art Explorers!Seeking young, motivated, and enthusiastic students who have lots of creative energy! Using a variety of materials, students will explore and create multicultural art. “Aboriginal Animals of Australia” and Africa Asimevo Designs will be a few of the project themes. Time permitting, explorers will “travel” to Egypt and construct a 3-D modern day pharaoh head dress. Students will also learn about famous masters such as Picasso, Monet and Miro, and learn how their art styles were inspired by a variety of cultures. Students are required to bring a snack and a smock to protect their clothing.

A few projects will involve painting expressive self portraits and producing prints from a glue relief technique. Inspiration will include comic strips, popular foods, and brand name packaging – allowing students to truly make their art pop!! ONSTAGE – LIVE! presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLAGrades 5-9If you like to sing, dance and act or would like to try, come be a part of this timeless and magical musical fairy tale. Origi-nally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. We will produce this musical IN JUST TWO WEEKS! A variety of principal, supporting and chorus roles are available. Roles will be assigned by the second day of camp. Kids Night Out This program provides a great opportunity for children to have fun in a supervised setting at the Rudy A Ciccotti Family Recreation Center. Activities include games, stories, movies, swimming, and snacks for children. Please bring your children dressed ready to swim. Please notify staff on duty if a flota-tion device is needed for swimming. Pre-registration is re-quired by that Thursday the day before the program. Payment is non-refundable, non-transferable, and due at the time of registration. Registrations and payments will be col-lected at the Ciccotti front desk. This program requires a minimum of 10 children to operate.

Designate one individual to represent your team as your team captain, who will collect all registration forms and payments and will submit everything at one time. Single players wishing to participate without a team can contact Roger Manion at 867-8920 ext 224 about signing up as a free agent and we will do our best to assign you to a team.
