Program OverviewThe Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)
The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) is a program funded by Housing and Urban
Development. The ESG Prevention program provides funding to prevent families and
individuals from becoming literally homeless.Through the HUD ESG program, services offered by VOA Southeast may include stabilization services and short and/or
medium-term rental assistance necessary to prevent the individual or family becoming
literally homeless.
A movement organized to reach and uplift all people and bring them to the knowledge and active service of God … illustrating the presence of God through all that we do, serves people and communities in need, and creates opportunities for people to experience the joy of serving others. Volunteers of America measures its success in positive change in the lives of individuals and communities we serve.
Goals
• Help at-risk of homelessness families quickly regain stability and permanent housing after a housing crisis.
• Provide a range of supportive services designed to resolve the immediate crisis and promote housing stability. Intervention is short-term and temporary.
• Homeless prevention is intended to prevent first-time and repeated homelessness or a recurrence of a housing crisis
Services provided for the following counties:
Baldwin, Bleckley, Crisp, Dooly, Houston, Laurens, Macon, Peach, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Pulaski, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether, Troup
The costs of homelessness prevention are only eligible to the extent that the assistance is necessary to help the program participant regain stability in their current housing or move into other permanent housing and achieve stability in that housing. Eligible costs include:
• Rental Assistance: rental assistance and rental arrears
• Services: housing stability case management, landlord and tenant mediation, tenant legal services, and credit repair counseling
The ESG program’s goal is to prevent homelessness among very low-income households by providing intensive, individualized case management and assisting participants to obtain public benefits including:
• Employment and training services• Educational assistance• Health-care services• Daily living services• Income support services
