Rationale: The field of electrical engineering is generally segmented into three major areas – Electronics, Power & Control. Power electronics involves a combination of these three areas. In broad terms, the function of power electronics is to process &control the electrical energy by supplying voltage and current in a form that is optimally suited to the load. Now a day’s electrical machine are controlled by Power Electronic devices. Also the various conventional control & relay are replaced by electronic control & relays, employing solid state power semiconductor devices. Hence, for electrical engineering Students it is desirable to study the course dealing with Power Electronics. Objectives: The students will be able to

To solve those problems students are required to know the facts, concepts and techniques of electrical machines ,switchgears ,control panels & electrical equipment’s, its repairs, fault finding and testing, estimation of cost and procurement of material, fabrication and manufacturing of various items used in electrical field. In order to develop them systematically for different problem solving needs, by previous technical knowledge, and skills learnt in previous semester, this subject is incorporated in the curriculum.

Note: There will be home assignments(minimum five) based on the Case Studies discussed at the end of the topic. The faculty shall identify the Case Studies and make them available to students at the commencement of the session. This is aimed at developing the better insight into the subject. However no questions shall be asked on the Case Studies, while setting the theory question paper.
