THE STUDENT AWARDS

Leticia Shahani Award

The Leticia Shahani Award is a recognition for students with excellent undergraduate

theses or research papers. The awardees, who are recommended by their respective

Institutes, receive a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of P10,000.00, which is

funded by a donation made by the late Senator Shahani in 1999. This was instituted

during the term of Dean Danilo M. Yanga.

CS Excellence Award

The CS Excellence Award is given to students who garnered the highest Cumulative

Weighted Average Grade (CWAG) in their respective degree, or otherwise satisfied

other criteria, upon the recommendation of their respective Institutes. The awardees

receive a Certification of Recognition and a cash prize of P10,000.00 each. This was

instituted during the term of Dean Rhodora V. Azanza from funds made available by

Senator Joker P. Arroyo.

Excellence in B.S. Studies

This award is given to the B.S. graduate of the College who garnered the highest

Cumulative Weighted Average Grade (CWAG).

Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez Award

The Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez Award is given to a Ph.D. graduate with an outstanding

scholastic record and who has the most number of papers published or accepted for

publication in ISI journals. The publications must be related to the student’s dissertation

and have been published during his/her residency in the College. The Award is in honor

of Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez of the Marine Science Institute, for his lifelong dedication

and service to UP and for his example of excellence in scientific research, teaching and

science administration. The awardee receives a Certificate of Recognition and a cash

prize of P20,000 from an anonymous donor.

Most Outstanding Graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.)

The awardee is chosen among the nominees from the Institutes by the Committee on

Academic Affairs of the College. The student must have demonstrated academic

excellence and the ability to do research. For the Most Outstanding M.S. Graduate, a

part of his/her thesis must have been published in a refereed journal or presented in a

conference. For the Most Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate, publication in a peer-reviewed

journal is required.
