Supplied by Theresa Hocking - Sandy Bay Cub Scout Pack, Tasmania Saturday Arrive (15 min) 2.00pm Arrive and settle in Opening (10 min) 2.15pm Grand Howl, Flag Break Game (10 min) 2.25pm Captain Coming Aboard Leader calls out commands like: “Starboard” “Port” “Bow” “Stern” run to appropriate side of hall “Scrub the deck” all get down on hands and knees and scrub the deck “Climb the rigging” pretend to climb rigging “Man over board” pretend to jump over side of ship and swim “Ship ahoy” look for approaching ship “Captain coming aboard” to attention and salute Craft (40 min) 2.35pm Decorate bandannas Bandannas should be pre-cut and sewn if necessary and Cub Scouts decorate them. Equipment: pencils, fabric pens, crayons and pre prepared material for each Cub Scout Make eye patches and Eye patches made out of cardboard, colour black and attach elastic. Equipment: cardboard, black textas, scissors, hole punch and hat Elastic Make Swords Swords made from stiff cardboard and the blade covered in foil. Game(10 min)

2.25pm Captain Coming AboardLeader calls out commands like:

“Starboard” “Port” “Bow” “Stern” run to appropriate side of hall

Game(10 min)

4.00pm Pirate Tug of WarTie two ropes together in the centre so that you have 4 ends. Place a plasticcup in the four corners of the hall. Taking it in turns have one Cub Scoutgrab each end and pull. The first Cub Scout who can pick up the cup in theircorner is the winner.

Equipment:

2 ropes, 4 plastic cups

Game(10 min)

4.10pm Bomb the PirateEveryone stands somewhere in the hall with their feet apart and cannotmove their feet. Using one or more balls the Cub Scouts try to get the ballbetween the legs of another Cub Scout who cannot move their legs but caneither catch the ball or deflect it with their hands. If the ball goes betweentheir legs they are out.

Equipment:

Ball

Game (10 min)

4.20pm Steal the TreasureOne Cub Scout sits in the centre of the hall and is blindfolded. They mustguard their treasure (something noisy like keys or a bell). The other CubScouts one at a time try to steal the treasure. If the guarding pirate hearsthem they can launch their cannonball at them (stocking with flour in the endof it). If struck by the cannon ball they are out. If they manage to steal thetreasure they become the guarding pirate.

Equipment:

noisy object (keys or bell), blindfold, stocking filled with Flour

Shipwrecked: 10-15 objects (or names of objects on bits of paper) x2 Blowthe sails: two plastic cups, string and 4 chairs

Craft(15 min)

4.30pm Pirate flagsProvide each Cub Scout with a rectangle of calico to decorate as a pirateflag. When finished hoist their flags on a flagpole. (You could attach them tothe rope with butterfly clips)

Equipment:

rectangle of calico per Cub Scout, pencils, crayons, butterfly clips

Game(10 min)

4.50pm Pirate BattleLine up skittles (could use plastic bottles partly filled with water) in front ofeach team. Teams are at opposite ends of the hall….in their pirate ships. Onthe command “Fire!”, the pirates hurl their cannonballs (bean bags) at thepirates on the other ship. Only one cannonball can be held at any time. Theship that knocks down all the “pirates” (skittles) on the other ship first wins.

Equipment:

Skittles, bean bags

Dinner 5.00pm Preparation for dinner and dinner

Main course:

(105 min) Gold nuggets (Chicken Nuggets), swords (chips and carrots), gunpowderpellets (peas), trees (broccoli)

Dessert:

Pirates delight (icecream, topping and sprinkles) and fresh fruit

Pirate juice (cordial) or Pirate milk

Wash up(15 min)

6.45pm Cub Scouts to assist washing dishes, cleaning table and putting awaycondiments

Game(20 min)

7.00pm Ship wreckedThe pirates have been shipwrecked. In two teams and in relay fashion theCub Scouts need to get the 6 most appropriate items from their ship to theshore along the rocks (several chairs in a row) The items can be real itemsor words written on paper. Have about 10-15 items to chose from for eachteam. When finished each team needs to explain why they chose thoseitems and then decide if they would have been able to survive with just thoseitems.

Game(20 min)

7.20pm Blow the sailsIn two teams and in relay fashion, each Cub Scout blows the sails acrossthe ocean (a plastic cup with a fairly large hole in the bottom, threaded on astring strung between two chairs)

Equipment:

1 polystyrene cup per team, ball of string, 2 chairs per team

Activity(30 min)

7.40pm Prepare skits for campfireIn small groups prepare something to present at the campfire – have itemsprepared for the Cub Scouts to practice

Campfire(50 min)

8.10pm Campfire with skits and marshmallows

Equipment:

Plenty of marshmallows, sticks etc for cooking marshmallows if not availablein the local area, song sheets

Supper(20 min)

9.00pm Ship rations:

Biscuits and milo or milk

Sling theHammock

(20 min)

9.20pm Set up sleeping bags & get dressed and ready for bed. Read or tell piratestories

9.40am Catch the PirateAll line up one behind the other holding onto the waist of the person in front.The first person tries to tag the last person without breaking the chain. Whenthe first person catches the last person they move to the end of the line andso on.

Activity(85 min)

9.50am Treasure HuntThis takes us on an outside adventure. Following a map and the instructionsgiven, follow the trail and find the treasure. Have morning tea along the way.Where might the map take us? To the beach maybe or to an abandonedfort? No doubt there will be many things to find and do along the way.

Equipment:

Maps & instructions, compasses, treasure

11.15am Pirate AnticsUsing suspended ropes for swinging and walking the plank with Leaderstossing cannon balls (cushions) at the pirates as they cross!

11.55am Distribute treasure, Grand Howl, Flag Break, Prayer
