COMENIUS VISIT TO MORLEY
When the people from the Comenius Visit came we went to all different places like the Headingly Cricket stadium, sport hall, and other things. I mostly liked the sports hall that we went to. We played with the people from the different counters in the playground; the people were from Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, Poland, France and Turkey. I think the people who came enjoyed it. We travelled to the places in a big minibus, it was great fun. We had lots of different foods. We had an assembly with the people who came. In the assembly’s we had to get with a partner and sit next to them. We put name badges on to tell them what our name was. When the people from the different counters left we were allowed to Skype the people after they had gone and we also did it before they came. They taught us some things, they taught us double skipping with my friend Ella Tingle and my friend Sophie.

The Comenius meeting in Morley
When the Comenius people came on Wednesday morning we had an a assembly and power points about each other’s schools and area around the school. After the assembly we went outside with the Comenius partners in the playground to play. Afterwards we came back to carry on with the power points then we had lunch in our classrooms while the adults went in our dinner hall.
During swimming time KS2 pupils and our Comenius partners were doing sports in the hall with Mr Brooke. After that we went back to school for the end of the day. Next day we set of for the leisure centre car park for our coach and went to Leeds Rhinos rugby stadium and had a guided tour around. It was really enjoyable and we had lots of laughs together.
After that we went back on the coach to National Coal Mining Museum. We had a tour underground in groups. Everybody enjoyed it when the lights were turned off! We went to the shop at the end of the underground tour and bought things. When we had finished shopping we went round the above ground museum. Eventually we got back to school for the end of the second day.
On the third day everybody had their bags and we were walking to the coach for the long journey to York. When we got there we went to York Railway Museum. We looked at the trains and took pictures, we also looked at the trains coming to the platform then later on we got to go to the shop and toilet.
After lunch we went onto the York wall and walked around it all! Then we went through the city until we had finished then we went to get a drink then set off back to school for the end of the day when we were back we said good bye to the Comenius people and then went home. By Richard John Goode (Year 5) Queenswood School, Morley, UK
Meeting in Morley 2012
My views of the Comenius meeting was that it was really fun that I was able to see our partnership school and interact.
I thought that all the other children were very polite and it was a delight to have them here and I would love to see them again. Also my favourite part was playing cricket in the Morley leisure centre. By Alexander Squire (Year 6)
Comenius Visit to Lithuania
In March 2013 some of the members of the Comenius project drove, flew to Lithuania most of the adults had a different timetable to the children as meetings took place. I really enjoyed the whole trip especially Trakai. We flew to Lithuania from Leeds, Bradford airport. It is a quite small airport with plenty of shops. We arrived in Lithuania at about 19:00 Lithuanian time which is 17:00 English time.
Some of the Lithuanian teachers greeted us at Vilnius airport and took us to our hotel, Europa City
Vilnius hotel. The hotel was very nice and the beds were very comfy and I liked the bath as well. On the second day we took the tram to the school (Levo Karsavino Mokykla) they greeted us very kindly with a song and a dance. Later on in the day we went to the radio and film museum which I thoroughly enjoyed.
On the third day first we took the tram to the school and performed our sports personality presentation. Then we put on our sports clothes and went into the sports hall and did some races. After that we had a go at martial arts. In the afternoon we went to a park with a frozen lake where we found some big icicles and we also went to a hill overlooking Vilnius.
On the fourth day we went to a restaurant called the cili pica which the English refer to as the chili pepper. We also went to the money museum where we received some shredded money which is very nice.
On the last day we went to a restaurant where we baked some pastries that looked like Cornish pasties. We also went to Trakai which was my favourite part of the trip. On the way back to the coach we stopped at a stall to do some shopping for souvenirs. Throughout the whole trip I made new friends and met some old friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip and it was one of the Highlights of my life. By Ben Aldridge (Year 6)

Oranges & Lemons
Two children form an arch with their hands. They decide in secret which of them shall be an orange and which shall be a lemon. Everyone sings the ‘Oranges & lemons’ song (see below). The other children in the game take turns to run under the arch until one of them is caught when the arch falls and the end of the song. The captured player is asked privately whether they will be an ‘orange’ or a ‘lemon’. They then go behind that team leader. The game and the singing start again. At the end of the game there is usually a ‘tug-o-war’ to test whether the oranges or the lemons are stronger. This game is similar to ‘London Bridge is falling down’ and stems from 16th Century England. SONG: Oranges and lemons,
Say the bells of Saint Clement’s,
You owe me 5 farthings, say the bells of Saint Martin’s,
When will you pay me? Say the bells of Old bailey,
When I grow rich, say the bells of Shoreditch,
When will that be? Say the bells of Stepney,
I’m sure I don’t know, says the great bell of Bow,
Here comes the candle to light you to bed.
Here comes the chopper to chop off your head…. Chip, chop, chip chop

ESTONIA is a charming small country with Northern climate and a beautiful nature. Our land
abounds everything that is rarely found elsewhere. Our capital Tallinn is the face and tourism centre of
Estonia with its phenomenal Old Town. Estonia is positively surprising.
Kohtla-Järve Slavic Basic School was founded in 1965. In Slavic school it is paid a lot of
attention to cultural and moral wealth and spiritual make-up of the students. There are 530
school students, 29 classes and 69 teachers at our school. One of the main tendency is special
programme where the Russian – speaking children are taught in the Estonian language.
The slogan (credo) of Slavic Basic School is ‘We are able to teach any child taking
account of the need.’ Our school is not only a place of education, it is a place where the children develop their
relationships, increase tolerance and mutual respect of each other among our classmates. Our
students can enjoy different cultural and confidence-building activities and, at the same time,
realize and demonstrate their individual talents. Everybody has an opportunity to take part in
dramatical and musical performances at a class and school parties.
Our school has got its own traditions , eg The School-leavers Reunion Day and the Last Bell.

You need the same number of children in each team (2 teams) and one beret (a
French hat).
You choose either a color, a number or whatever you want in a foreign language
for example. The 2 teams have the same choice. Each child of a team represents
a color.

Education System Lithuania has twelve years of comprehensive education and three cycles of higher education, including the programmes of Bachelor, Master and the Doctorate. The system is designed for pupils and students to be able to freely choose their field of studies enabling them to concentrate on specific subjects. The National Examination Centre is in charge of matura (school graduation) examinations. This ensures that pupils' achievements are objectively evaluated by independent evaluators. Centrally arranged matura examinations facilitate university admissions effected on the basis of the average grade of matura examinations.
Primary education
Primary education is provided from seven years of age or earlier, if parents so wish, and if the child has reached certain level of maturity. The completion of the programme that takes four years provides pupils with primary education. Primary schools have no grade assessment, instead focussing on child's individual progress. Pupils get oral information or brief written description on their achievements. Trimester, semester or academic year end in round- up evaluation specifying the achieved level: satisfactory, basic or advanced. Ethnic minority schools begin teaching the state official language in the first year. The first foreign language is introduced in the second year.
Basic education Basic education takes six years to complete. It is provided by basic, secondary, youth, vocational schools and gymnasiums. Compulsory education is until 16 years of age. It normally lasts until the tenth grade. Basic education may be followed by further studies in secondary or vocational schools. It is also possible to follow secondary education programme in conjunction with the vocational training program aimed at acquisition of the first qualification.
Secondary education
Higher education in Lithuania is optional. Usually it takes two years (11-12th grades in secondary schools and 3-4th grades in gymnasiums). Students follow individual education plans. The programme may include vocational training modules. The secondary education programme may be followed in secondary, vocational schools and gymnasiums. Secondary education completes in matura examinations.
Vilnius Lev Karsavin School provides secondary education. In our school there are 114 pupils in the Primary school section, 346 students in the Basic school section and 102 students in the Secondary school section. Totally we have 562 students in 23 forms. The teachers’ stuff consists of 9 teachers of the Russian language, 8 teachers of the English language, 12 teachers of the Lithuanian language, 7 teachers of Mathematics, 2 teachers of IT, 3 teachers of Physics, 2 teachers of Chemistry, 3 teachers of Biology, 2 teachers of Geography, 4 teachers of History, 2 teachers of Ethics, 2 teachers of Arts, 3 teachers of Music, 3 teachers of Physical Education, 6 teachers of Primary school.
In Lithuania teachers have qualification categories: a teacher, a senior teacher, a teacher-methodologist, an expert. We have 12 teachers, 38 senior teachers, 18 teachers-methodologists, 5 experts and 1 Ph D. The school year lasts from September till June. The learning process is organised in terms for the students of the Basic section and in semesters for the students of the Primary and Secondary sections. We also have Autumn, Christmas, Easter, Summer and additional holidays for students. Curriculum includes learning 3 languages /Russian, Lithuanian, English/, Mathematics, Computer Science, Nature Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts, Physical Education. Healthy Lifestyle and Civil Studies are integrated in the main curriculum.
In the primary section we have 3 weekly classes of PE and Dances, in the Basic and Secondary sections we have 2 weekly classes and extras of football, basketball and athletic gymnastics. We also participate in the programme ‘Schools Promoting Healthy Lifestyle’ . We have a group of enthusiastic students from forms 8B and 8D forms who eagerly participate in all local events. They have been awards several times. Our school nurse and PE teachers assist and support them. By the way, our PE teachers are former sportsmen who took part in swimming, artistic gymnastics and football competitions. They have lots of trophies and awards.
The Comenius project has greatly influenced the whole school community life. Many students and teachers are involved in the project. We organised several events, such as sports competitions “I Want to Be Healthy”, “Tasty, Beautiful, Healthy”, Our LOGO competition, The Best Christmas Card contest “ From Lithuania with Love”, “Citius, Alteus, Forteus”, A Walk to School, Sports Lexicon, My Fitness Diary, presentations on Sports in Lithuania, Golf in Lithuania, Lithuanian Sports Personalities. The most important achievement is that we found a lot of friends and comrades all over Europe, exchanged students and families, hosted 52 participants of the project.
*
Not only our students and teachers participated in the project, but also parents and whole families. Their hospitality and kindness help overcome the language barrier. Skype sessions with the Estonian participants were very interesting and new for our students. We hope that participation in the project will strengthen friendship, promote healthy lifestyle and broaden the mind.
“I am keen on sports. I do karate, rowing and boxing. Sports has become a part of my life. I was impressed by the rugby stadium in Leeds and by the achievements of local sportsmen. We could also go to the real mine and see how people used to work there. I was happy to be involved.”
George Gamazkov.
“I was happy to participate in the project and visit England. I learned a lot about the country, its people, history and modern life. The Stadium in Leeds was great, I learned so much about rugby, English champions and even held the Rugby Cup! The Town Hall was amazing. I will never forget this visit.’ Artemi Vashkinel, form 6b.

The spirit of fair-play
In any kind of competition there is a better team, a
winning one. Therefore, in the spirit of fairplay, when we
play, you don't have to cheat, to be violent, but to follow the
rules. If we lose or we win, we must praise and respect the
winner, for the effort of our opponents. To recognize merit
in match play. There is no need to get upset. If the
opponent wishes to congratulate us for the game, you need
to give your hand to him, thank him for the gesture did not
go along with it and ignore it, just for the fact that he won,
and we lost.
Thus, fairplay plays an important role in learning and
practicing every sport, reflecting the education received in
the so-called "seven years from home" of any player.

”My favorite activity was cricket. I learned this wonderful game and I hope to play it

much supported me, taught me that any object, regardless of its size has a well

Third meeting in Lithuania
My journey to Lithuania was great because I had a lot of fun with Lithuanian kids. I had walked every day with
them and I”ve discovered a lot of grateful places from Vilnius.
Fourth meeting in Estonia
In my opinion at the Olympic Games, the most beautiful sport event was that one where we had to run with two
big soles made by sponge, because in the same time we did sport in a funny way and we used our intelligence to
discover how to use better the elastics which were attached on the sponges.
