Many women and girls are victims of violence due to thedarkness of roads in the evening.

Many complaints were deposited within the council

A girl of 12 years old was raped in the quarter

The issue is very important because womenand girls are living with anguish andinsecutity.

The quarter is living in complete darkness,which favorsviolence and delinquency.

HOW ARE YOU GOING ABOUT ADDRESSINGTHI S PROBLEM?

I am a member of the counsellors of the council. I decided to expose the issue to my colleagues and I

tried to convince them of the necessity of placing apublic lamp in that road.

It was decided unanimously that this project would bea priority. We found many partners such as thechiefs of Fokontany (village), the JIRAMA(National firm producer of electricity and water),and some donators.

The project was established in 2009 and accomplished in 2010

The project of public lighting is a long-lasting one.

WHO IS THE KEY TARGET? WHO IS INVOLVED?

ARE WOMEN AND MEN EQUALLY INVOLVED?

Targets : everyone but especially men and women.

The rural council of Manjakandrina , the technicians and thebeneficiaries are all involved.

Men and women are equally implicated: -Concerning the execution of the works, men and women were

equally involved and they received also the same advantages.

PARTNERSHIPS FORMED THROUGH THEPROJECT

Everyone in the council is targeted to benefitfrom this project.

Many people took part in it : the mayor andher staff, myself who has prompting all the

villagers, the JIRAMA, the population ingeneral, the donators...).

RESOURCEFULNESS: WHAT FINANCIAL, HUMANAND OTHER RESOURCES WERE MOBILISED?

Concerning financial resources: the council obtained aninvestment from the State and these resources were usedwith transparency and efficiently because everyone knowsthe expenses allowed and needed.

As human resources, everyone in the council were helping toaccomplish the work.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The technicians from the JIRAMA collaborated with us.

Now, everyone has the responsibility to monitor the work done.

We made campaigns within all the villages in the council forelectrification of their houses and roads.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED?

Thanks to the effort accomplished:

Many households have electricity and drinkingwater because of the collaboration with theJIRAMA.

People can use machines of production.

Reduction of violence in general and especiallyviolence against women and girls.
