IM FLASH - SINGAPORE, LLPIM Flash is a semiconductor chip manufacturing plant that requires

high quality electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their manufacturing

process is highly sensitive to power interruptions and variations in power

quality due to transients, harmonics, voltage surges, and voltage sags.

NEPSI’s harmonic �lters were chosen above all others to

support their power quality requirements.

Single-Tuned Filter with Taps for Multi-Tuned Filter OperationThe 6-Stage �lter system was shipped as a single-tuned multi-stage harmonic �lter. NEPSI conducteda harmonic study as part of this project. The results of this study indicated the need to build in thecapability for a quick and ef�cient tuning point change to the 4.7th harmonic.

All Inclusive DesignThe �lter system, designed and built by NEPSI, was equipped with all switching, all protection, andall control, thus minimizing foot print area, procurement cost, installation, commissioning, andmaintenance cost.

Controls featured a preprogrammed MicroLogix Controller, on/off/auto switches for all stages, stagestatus indication, advanced key interlock system, automatic power factor controller, and a Shark 200Data Logging Power Quality Meter.

The protection system set and calibrated by NEPSI included ABB’s UFES system for arc �ash mitigation,blown fuse detection, fuse failure detection, individual stage overload protection, undercurrent, andloss-of-phase protection, over-voltage distortion and over-current distortion protection, and thermalprotection for fan failure.

Arc Flash Mitigation - ABB Ultra-Fast Earthing Switch (UFES)Arc �ash mitigation with ABB’s Ultra-Fast Earthing Switch and arc �ash detection relay. This systemextinguishes arcing faults within 4mS (total time, from arc ignition to arc extinction). With such fast arcextinction times, equipment damage and the resulting downtime is minimized while operator safety isdramatically improved.
