To reduce or prevent substance abuse, HIV, and hepatitis in minority and minority reentry populations by providing an evidenced-based integrated Substance Abuse/HIV/Hepatitis prevention intervention

Outcome Goals
Goal 1: Prevent/reduce use of and problems associated with substance use
Goal 2: Reduce risk of HIV and HCV among SPARC participants
Goal 3: Enhance psychosocial and legal outcomes among SPARC participants
Services
• Linkages to ancillary preventive care:– Twin RX (vaccine protection against Hep A and B)
– Hepatitis C screening and referrals– HIV testing and counseling
• Substance abuse, HIV, and hepatitis prevention curriculum
SPARC Drug Court Intervention- 5 sessions
Sessions – 2 hours each 1) HIV education
2) Hepatitis education
3) Risk Reduction
4) Substance Abuse Education (Prevention)
5) Substance Abuse Education (Coping Skills)
SPARC Re-Entry Curriculum 1 Session

• Minority men & women• Ages 18 years & older• Three subgroups:
– Participant of Bexar County Drug Courts– Participant of Bexar County Substance Abuse
Treatment Facility– Sexual partners of either group
