3DPathologyDeveloping 3D Digital Pathology with Spectroscopy

OBJECTIVES n Fast and automated 3D acquisition of tissue

information using multiple imaging modalities n Merging of data acquired by the different modalities

using techniques like co-registration, alignment and reconstruction

n Fast big data analysis algorithms (machine learning and data mining) to extract and combine the relevant data

n New 3D visualization and interaction technologies n IT backbone to handle the data of tremendous size

produced by the individual imaging modalities (data sets in the range of Terabytes to Petabytes)

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS / BUSINESS VALUE n Reduction of errors in pathological examination

practice n Improving the quality of live due to personalized

treatment n Lowering the burden on the pathology labs n Coping with the scarcity of qualified pathologists

in the near future n Global business potential for digital pathology

scanners, displays and software

PROJECT SUMMARYThe ITEA 3 project 3DPathology will create a 3D quantitative digital pathology solution, based on a combination of multiple existing pathology modalities, for same day diagnosis and a far more personalised treatment of cancer. The project will address the integration aspects of clinical workflow and the standardisation of data storage and exchange.

SECOND GENERATION SCANNER The technology:

n Simplified and more robust optical path n Novel sensor with 128 line cameras

integrated on one single chip n Possibility to acquire multiple layers in one

scan High speed multi-layer imaging n 40x equivalence (0.25 μm/pixel) image

resolution n Auto-focus integrated on same chip n Results in excellent image quality
