Masahiro Abe, Deputy Secretary-General, Japan Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association (Hall 99-100):

In ProPak Asia 2019, JPMA (Japan Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association) participates together with 16 co-exhibitors as the Japan Pavilion, located in Hall 99~Hall 100. This time, we have expanded our pavilion to five islands. We offer tailored solutions with a variety of Japanese advanced exhibits, such as packaging machinery, inspection machinery, weighing machinery, food processing machinery, packaging materials, vacuum coolers, high efficiency steam boilers, and so on.

Hong Soon Woo, representative of Korea Packaging Machinery Association (AK21):

For Korean companies, the Southeast Asian market is a very important one. ProPak Asia is a key exhibition which brings together many Southeast Asian companies under one roof. This year, we have 28 companies exhibiting under the Korean pavilion, bringing our packaging and processing technology to this market.

Carmina Castella, Business Unit Director, Spanish Pavilion (AB21):

In general, the Spanish companies are satisfied with their participation at ProPak Asia. It is an excellent

Yoon Tae Mo, Incheon Business Information Technopark (BB21):

We are delighted to see the show visibly growing between 10 to 20 percent in the number of visitors. Because of this, we have already booked a 96 sq m booth for ProPak 2020. See you there!

Michelle Liao, representative of World Trade Center Taichung (AW11, AW21, AW31):

I've been attending this show for more than 10 years, and the international growth of the show is very impressive. This year, the electronic sign-up booths indicate how technologically advanced ProPak is becoming, inviting representatives from many countries.

What were your highlights of the show?

Nerida Kelton, Executive Director at Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), Australian Pavilion:

The highlight of the show for the Australian pavilion was the inaugural Global Packaging Forum that AIP developed with informa markets. We had an overwhelming response of over 400 delegates who engaged in discussion regarding packaging, digital printing and sustainability.

Jim Colwell, President, Jacob White, UK Pavilion (AT32):

Keeping Up With Beverage Industry Innovations

A sia is progressing at a rapid pace, and it is often difficult to keep up with innovations

in this arena. At the 7th edition of the Asia Drink Conference, co-organisers informa UBM and Eastern Trade Media have attempted to bridge this knowledge gap in the market by bringing together beverage industry leaders under one roof.

This year’s theme was Beverage 4.0, an intricate amalgamation of Industry 4.0 and beverage innovation. Senior managers and key players in the industry were treated to a wide array of topics about the beverage sector in Asia, including: Beverage Trends (by Frost & Sullivan),

Elgi Equipment Limited Hall 104 BV19

E lgi Equipments, one of the world’s leading air-compressor manufacturers, with 2 million

installations across 100 countries, is showcasing its oil-free screw air compressors at Hall 104, stand no BV19.

The food processing and packaging industry requires clean, contamination-free air, and oil-free

ELGi Oil-Free Air Compressorsscrew compressors from ELGi ensure the highest levels of compressed air quality. With in-house technology, the compressors are engineered to deliver maximum uptime. ELGi’s unique eta-V rotor design reduces pressure losses and increases stage efficiencies, leading to an optimised compressed air system, with easy serviceability with reduced service time. With adherence to superior safety norms, ELGi’s oil free compressors are also highly reliable.

Customers from the food processing and packaging industry visited our experts at our booth and showed great interest in our oil free and oil flooded screw air compressor range. We are looking forward to partnering with these customers and identifying opportunities to

help them in achieving their business goals with our sustainable solutions.

Ramesh Ponnuswami, Executive Director, Elgi Equipments says “At ELGi, our oil-free range of air compressors delivers oil free, zero contaminated air with maximum uptime and reliability. We are proud to have some of the world’s largest food processing and packaging companies as our customers today, across the world.”

Packaging Solutions for 2019 & Beyond (by Tetra Pak), Beverage Market Forecast (by GlobalData), Digitisation In The Brewing Industry (by Krones), Sustainable Packaging (by Coca-Cola) and many other exciting IoT 4.0-based topics.

Wannipa Bhakdibutr, President of Platinum Sponsors of the event, OSOTSPA PLC, notes in her keynote address: “This is a critical time to have a discussion on the impact of Industry 4.0 on the beverage industry. In this age, we need to ride on the advancement of technology and glean benefits through it. It is not enough to have the same competitive advantage that we (large drink manufacturers) did twenty years ago—scale

and wide distribution networks are not sufficient to take us into the future. We need to invest in automation and digitsation: some examples are machine learning, autonomous vehicles, robots and blockchain technology. Let’s get future ready. ”

Likewise, Kenneth Tan, Managing Director of Eastern Trade Media comments: “We are proud to be co-organising ADC once again. We have a fruitful partnership with informa UBM and we are thankful that it has created a premium event like ADC. Over the years, it has become hard to navigate the beverage landscape. The changing regulations, evolving consumer preferences and calls for automation have shifted the playing field for industry professionals. That is why it is crucial for us to host platforms like this. We would like to assist in knowledge sharing and watch the industry grow with a little help from us.”

Serac Asia Sdn Bhd Hall 99 AL31

N icolas Ricard, Chief Customer Officer from Serac Asia comments: “ProPak Asia represents

a hub for v is i tors f rom dif ferent countr ies. Serac attends country-specific ProPak shows but we find that ProPak Asia attracts the most diverse visitors. Despite the slowdown in the economy this year, the turnout at the event is significant.

“We’re seeing an increasing trend for sustainable production and processing methods from our clients. While this is not a new trend, it has been picking up in Asia recently. This means that as solution providers, Serac needs to be at the forefront of sustainable packaging and processing equipment. For example, we have new machines that use less plastic for PET bottles. For customers that require flexibility, we have machines that can produce glass and plastic at the same time, catering to two needs at once.”

few months, we’ve installed machines to produce cough syrups, edible oil and chemicals for the semicon industry. We pride ourselves on the customisable and flexible nature of our machines for liquid products.”

He continues: “This is TORQ’s first time at the exhibition; it is nice to have a platform where we can meet our regional clients and establish new relationships. I have noticed that visitors to our booth have very specific questions—they know exactly what they need. They are decisive and get straight to the point, so I can establish how TORQ can help them.”

ACCESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS AT:

Confectionery Pavilion Hall 100

Confectionery: Working Toward SustainabilityOnce again, the Confectionery Pavilion at Propak Asia 2019 once again gathers

companies involved in different stages of the confectionery production process. Visitors will be delighted to find solutions for every part of the process—from the beginning stages of processing to the final packaging, all under a single roof. The Show Daily team catches up with Daniel Schibur, representative of the confectionery pavilion about the ever-changing trends in Asia’s confectionary market.

“We are here to meet customers and provide solutions, improve efficiency, reduce labour cost, reduce waste and work towards the global trend of sustainability,” Schibur shared.

With rising labour costs in Asian countries, companies are moving away from machines with lower output and replacing their technology with more efficient solutions. Furthermore, sustainability is a great discussion topic in the confectionery industry. Sustainability is a huge focus in Europe, and Asia is catching up as well.

“We have had discussions about what wrapping materials will be used in the future as the use of plastic is becoming a problem. In Asia especially where flow pack packaging is common and the film material used are laminates which consists of different materials and layers, recycling is simply not possible,” said Schibur.

“Reduction of wrapping materials is this first step in achieving sustainability. However, sometimes using wrapping materials cannot be avoided as confectionary goods like chocolate pieces require individual protection and bagging naked chocolates will reduce their shelf-life. Our machines are programmed to be efficient to help manufacturers reduce consumption of materials and the cost as the price of wrapping materials are rising with the taxes set on plastic materials by the government.”

He concludes: “The next step is to give machines the capability to handle different materials. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but there are many ongoing investigations to uncover new materials. Some manufacturers are even going back to wax paper used in the old days which can be more expensive, however, it is biodegradable, unlike plastic film which requires 150 years to degrade.”
