    Plant Oils

Plant oils are generally obtained from pressing the seeds or fruits of different plants.

These are precious ingredients for hair and skincare, each one with its own particular characteristics and specific properties. Based on their qualities, these oils can be used to nourish and moisturise skin and hair, preventing and reducing the formation of wrinkles, reducing inflammation, redness, and scars. They are also useful as disinfectants and anti-fungal treatment.

A particular characteristic of many plant oils is their high unsaturated fatty acid content, this is extremely important when it comes to acting as a barrier for the skin, which if properly nourished stays soft and firm.

According to the different characteristics of the plant and the distribution of all the precious substances it contains, the various oils can serve different treatment and cosmetic needs.

They are used, neat or dissolved in emulsions to boost the effect. Often they are used as carriers for essential oils; substances which are extremely concentrated and must never be applied pure to the skin.

To make the most of plant oils, it is important to know all about their beneficial properties.

This guide will help to explain their characteristics and uses in detail.

For more detailed information about ingredients, allergens and use (cosmetic or dietary), please see the data sheet for each oil on our website www.chogangroup.com

    Sweet Almond Oil

Almond oil, which is extracted from the kernels of the Prunus amygdalus dulcis, is the best-known plant oil and it is widely used in natural cosmetics for its moisturising, softening, nourishing and soothing action on the skin of adults, but also on the delicate skin of children and babies.

    Use and practical advice

Dry, irritated skin: Sweet almond oil is rec-ommended in all cases of dry, dehydrated skin. Apply with a gentle massage, pref-erably after a bath (while the skin is still wet), to make sure that the oil molecules emulsify with those of the water, becoming easier for the skin to absorb. The emollient and soothing a tion makes it very useful in the treatment of dry, irritated skin and to soothe itching in case of measles, chicken pox or eczema.Pregnancy: Sweet almond oil is above all well known as a natural remedy against stretch marks, especially those caused by pregnancy: daily application to the stom-ach, bust, hips, and thighs is recommend-ed, from the third month and until the end of breastfeeding. Indeed, thanks to its elas-ticising properties, it prevents the dermis from tearing and causing unsightly breaks or streaks over the skin of pregnant women. This is why it is also recommended during weight loss diets, to stop the skin from be-coming loose after weight loss.

Hair: The nourishing action of Sweet Al-mond oil means it is often used to treat very dry, frizzy hair or hair suffering from sun or sea damage. A mask, left on damp hair for 20-30 minutes, before shampooing, will restore softness. It can also be used on the beach in place of gel, to create the so-called “wet look” that will also protect the hair from drying out too much in the sun and salty sea air.Massage: This oil can also be mixed with a few drops of essential oil to create a cus-tomised massage oil that is pleasant to use and nourishing for the skin all over the body. In this way, it also has all of the therapeutic properties of the essential oil being used (for example, for joint pain, muscle massag-es for athletes, etc).Children: Sweet Almond oil can protect children’s delicate, sensitive skin against redness, cracking and irritation.Face: Sweet almond oil is also an excellent alternative to cleansing milk, since it is able to remove all impurities that deposit on the skin every day, without altering the natu-ral hydrolipid balance: just a few drops on a cotton wool pad will eliminate even the

    most stubborn make-up traces.

Sweet almond oil with added fragrance is like a gentle caress to the body, combining all of the emollient, moisturising properties of almond with the scent notes that we love best.

    Properties and benefits

Good for hair and skin, useful during preg-nancy; good for children, and excellent as a massage oil. Almond oil does not alter the skin’s natural hydrolipid balance; on the contrary, it contributes to the renewal of tissue cells. It is obtained from cold press-ing the oily seed inside the fruit of the al-mond tree, without using chemical solvents. It is used just the way it is obtained: pure . Almond oil has one of the highest percent-ages of unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which gives the plant its well-known eudermic properties. The oil also contains vitamins E and B, amino acids, glucids and minerals, making it an excellent means to combat skin ageing and help to boost tis-sue cell renewal.

    Essential Oils

Essential Oils are prestigious substances which have been extracted from aromatic plants since ancient times.

They can be used by inhaling as well as orally - where expressely specified by the data sheet- or through the skin, via massage or foot baths.

Our ancestors discovered the powerful effects of aromas and they used them in religious ceremonies, in the preparation of fragrances and creams, and as initial rem-edies, through fumigation of aromatic woods and resins to bring about calm and relaxation, or euphoria, according to requirements.

Essential oils and etheric oils are natural products, obtained by extraction from plant material, packed with essences and belonging to herbs and medicinal plants, known as aromatics. Once extracted, these oils take the form of liquids, volatile substances, and they smell like the plant they come from.

Essential oils are substances that have quite a complex composition and represent the most regal part of the plant. They take the form of minuscule droplets in the petals of flowers, the rind of fruit, the resin and bark of trees, and even in the roots of herbs and aromatic plants.

They are volatile elements, soluble in alcohol but not in water. The amount of essen-tial oil in a plant depends on the different environmental factors, within which the plant is born and develops, specifically, the species, climate and soil type.

In aromatherapy, essential oils are used to rebalance the mental and emotional spheres. For this type of use, the oils can be applied with room diffusers, aromatic baths, suffumigation and saunas.

Essential oils must not be applied to eyes. In case of contact, apply plenty of vege-table oil then rinse with plenty of water.

All of our essential oils can be administered via the skin and must be diluted in plant oil. We recommend carrying out a skin test in the curve of the elbow, at least 48 hours before any use on the skin, whether pure or diluted. If there is an abnormal reaction (redness, irritation, stinging), it is better to avoid further use.

Some oils (Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin, Sweet Orange are photo sensitising: after application of these oils, it is important not to expose the skin to sun or UV rays for at least 6 hours.

Use:If choosing to take essential oils orally - where expressely specified by the data sheetthey must be diluted in oil, honey or sugar. Pour 2 drops of essential oil in a spoonful of honey, a spoonful of olive oil or straight onto a sugar cube. Take for a maximum of three times a day, after meals.

In case of accidental swallowing, drink several spoonfuls of vegetable oil to dilute the essential oil and contact a poisons centre or seek medical advice.

Generally speaking, essential oils are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women; people who suffer from epilepsy; hypersensitivity, or who is suffering from a hormonal form of cancer, and in general, people with health problems. Never use essential oils on babies or children under the age of 5 before seeking a medical opinion. In case of respiratory allergies or asthma, avoid inhaling the fumes directly.
