Biblical Prophecies on the Advent of Muhammad ,the Prophet of Islam

Quran 2:136

Say (O Muslims), "We believe in Allâh and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrâhim (Abraham), Ismâ'il (Ishmael), Ishâq (Isaac), Ya'qûb (Jacob), and to Al-Asbât [the offspring twelve sons of Ya'qûb (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Mûsa (Moses) and Isâ (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islâm)."

Quran 3:64

SAY:"O PEOPLE OF THE BOOK!COME TO COMMON TERMS AS BETWEEN US AND YOU:THAT WE WORSHIP NONE BUT GOD;THAT WE ASSOCIATE NO PARTNERS WITH HIM;THAT WE ERECT NOT, FROM AMONG OURSELVES,LORDS AND PATRONS OTHER THAN GOD."IF THEN THEY TURN BACK,SAY:"BEAR WITNESS THAT WE (AT LEAST)ARE MUSLIMS (BOWING TO GOD'S WILL). ” ( Holy Qur'an 3:64)

Do not argue ( Quran 29:46 )

“And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our God and your God is One, and unto Him we surrender. (46) In like manner We have revealed unto thee the Scripture, and those unto whom We gave the Scripture aforetime will believe therein; and of these (also) there are some who believe therein. And none deny Our revelations save the disbelievers. “

Deuteronomy 18:18-19

In Deuteronomy18:18-19, Moses stated that God told him :

“ I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers ;I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.”

Deut 18:18-19

From these verses we conclude that the prophet in this prophecy must have the following three characteristics:

1)That he will be like Moses.

2)That he will come from the brothers of the Israelites, i.e. the Ishmaelite.

3)That God will put His words into the mouth of this prophet and that he will declare what God commands him.

Let us examine these three characteristics in more depth and shed some light about other prophesies as well .

May the light of truth shine in your heart and mind. May it lead you to peace and certitude in this life and eternal bliss in hereafter. ( DR. Jamal Badawi )

Let there be no compulsion in religion, truth stands clear from falsehood.

The Quran revealed to Muhammad ( pbuh ) glorifies Jesus:

“…who shall become known as the Christ Jesus, son of Mary, of great honor in this world and in the life to come, and [shall be] of those who are drawn near unto God.” (Quran 3:45)

Prophet like Moses:

1) A prophet like Moses: There were hardly any two prophets who were so much alike as Moses and Muhammad. Both were given a comprehensive law and code of life. Both encountered their enemies and were victorious in miraculous ways. Both were accepted as prophets and statesmen.

Both migrated following conspiracies to assassinate them. Analogies between Moses and Jesus overlook not only the above similarities but other crucial ones as well. These include the natural birth, the family life, and the death of Moses and Muhammad but not that of Jesus. Moreover , Jesus was regarded by his followers as the Son of God and not exclusively as a prophet of God ,as Moses and Muhammad were and as Muslims believe Jesus was.

So, this prophecy refers to Muhammad and not to Jesus, because Muhammad is more like Moses than Jesus.

Deuteronomy 33:2

According to the Bible, the coming prophet would come from Arabia: “And he said, the Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.” (Deuteronomy 33:2) Mount Paran is the area located between the mountains of Abu-Qubays, Qi`an, and Hira’ in Makkah. It is where Abraham took his wife Hagar and their child Ishmael.

According to Genesis 21:21, the wilderness of Paran was the place where Ishmael settled (i.e. Arabia, specifically Mecca).

Page 10: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

From their brethren:

The Awaited Prophet will be from the Brethren of the Jews .The verse in discussion is explicit in saying that the prophet will come amongst the Brethren of the Jews.  Abraham had two sons: Ishmael and Isaac.  The Jews are the descendants of Isaac’s son, Jacob.  The Arabs are the children of Ishmael.  Thus, the Arabs are the brethren of the Jewish nation.

[3] The Bible affirms:‘And he (Ishmael) shall dwell in the presence of a

ll his brethren.’ (Genesis 16:12)‘And he (Ishmael) died in the presence

of all his brethren.’ (Genesis 25:18)The children of Isaac are the breth

ren of the Ishmaelites.  Likewise, Muhammad is from among the breth

ren of the Israelites, because he was a descendant of Ishmael the son

of Abraham.

Isaiah 29:12

The coming prophet would be illiterate, as was Muhammad (peace be upon him): “And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, ‘Read this, I pray thee’ and he saith, ‘I am not learned.’” (Isaiah 29:12) This amazingly coincides with how Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the first revelation: “…till Truth came upon him while he was in the cave of Hira'. There came to him the angel and said, ‘Read,’ to which he replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ He took hold of me (the Messenger said) and pressed me, till I was hard pressed; thereafter he let me off and said, ‘Read.’ I said, ‘I do not know how to read.’ He then again took hold of me and pressed me for the second time till I was hard pressed and then let me off and said, ‘Read,’ to which I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ He took hold of me and pressed me for the third time, till I was hard pressed and then let me go and said: *{Read in the name of your Lord Who created, created man from a clot of blood. Recite. And your Most Bountiful Lord is He Who taught the use of pen, taught man what he knew not}* Then the Prophet returned therewith, his heart was trembling…” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari.)

Quran 61:6

And when Jesus said; "O Children of Israel! I am the apostle of God (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of an apostle to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad.”[ Holy Quran 61:6

Please take notice of the name mentioned, 'Ahmad'. This is one of the most common of several names given to the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, by his own people.

The comforter ?

"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." (John 16:7)"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me." (John 16:12-14)

Prophet of mercy

THOSE WHO SHOW MERCY WILL BE DEALT WITH MERCIFULLY .

“ The Merciful One shows mercy to the merciful,” said the Prophet. “Be merciful with those on earth. The One in Heaven will be merciful with you.” (AHMAD, ABU DAWUD, AL TIRMIDHI)

Genesis12:2-3

Abraham is widely regarded as the Patriarch of monotheism and the common father of the Jews, Christians and Muslims.

Through His second son, Isaac, came all Israelite prophets including such towering figures as Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus. May peace and blessings be upon them all. The advent of these great prophets was in partial fulfillment of God's promises to bless the nations of earth through the descendents of Abraham (Genesis12:2-3).

Such fulfillment is wholeheartedly accepted by Muslims. whose faith considers the belief in and respect of all prophets, an article of faith.

THAT PROPHET- PARACLETE-Muhammad

Up to the time of Jesus (peace be upon him), the Israelites were still awaiting for that prophet like unto Moses prophesied in Deuteronomy 18:18. When John the Baptist came, they asked him if he was Christ and he said "no". They asked him if he was Elias and he said "no". Then, in apparent reference to Deuteronomy 18:18, they asked him "Art thou that Prophet" and he answered, "no". (John 1: 1 9-2 1).In the Gospel according to John (Chapters 14, 15, 16) Jesus spoke of the "Paraclete" or comforter who will come after him, who will be sent by Father as another Paraclete, who will teach new things which the contemporaries of Jesus could not bear. While the Paraclete is described as the spirit of truth, (whose meaning resemble Muhammad's famous title Al-Amin, the trustworthy), he is identified in one verse as the Holy Ghost (John 14:26). Such a designation is however inconsistent with the profile of that Paraclete.

In the words of the Dictionary of the Bible, (Ed. J. Mackenzie) "These items, it must be admitted do not give an entirely coherent picture. ” Indeed history tells us that many early Christians understood the Paraclete to be a man and not a spirit. This might explain the followings who responded to some who claimed, without meeting the criteria stipulated by Jesus, to be the awaited "Paraciete".

It was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who was the Paraclete, Comforter, helper, admonisher sent by God after Jesus. He testified of Jesus, taught new things which could not be borne at Jesus' time, he spoke what he heard (revelation), he dwells with the believers (through his well-preserved teachings). Such teachings will remain forever because he was the last messenger of God, the only Universal Messenger to unite the whole of humanity under God and on the path of PRESERVED truth. He told of many things to come which "came to pass" in the minutest detail meeting, the criterion given by Moses to distinguish between the true prophet and the false prophets (Deuteronomy 18:22). He did reprove the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment (John 16:8-11)

Isaiah 21:13-17

MUHAMMAD'S MIGRATION FROM MECCA TO MEDINA:PROPHECIED IN THE BIBLE?

Habakkuk 3:3 speaks of God (God's help) coming from Te'man (an Oasis North of Medina according to J. Hasting's Dictionary of the Bible), and the holy one (coming) from Paran. That holy one who under persecution migrated from Paran (Mecca) to be received enthusiastically in Medina was none but prophet Muhammad.

Indeed the incident of the migration of the prophet and his persecuted followers is vividly described in Isaiah 21:13-17. That section foretold as well about the battle of Badr in which the few ill-armed faithful miraculously defeated the "mighty" men of Ke'dar, who sought to destroy Islam and intimidate their own folks who turned -to Islam.

Genesis 21

2) From the brothers of the Israelites: Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac (Genesis 21). Ishmael became the grandfather of the Arab nation, and Isaac became the grandfather of the Jewish nation. The prophet spoken of was not to come from among the Jews themselves, but from among their brothers, i.e. the Ishmaelite.

Muhammad, descendant of Ishmael ,is indeed this prophet.

Page 19: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

Deuteronomy, 18:19

3) God will put His words in the mouth of this prophet: The words of God (the Holy Qur’an) were truly put into Muhammad’s mouth. God sent the Angel Gabriel to teach Muhammad the exact words of God (the Holy Qur’an) and asked him to dictate them to the people as he heard them. The words are therefore not his own. They did not come from his own thoughts, but were put into his mouth by the Angel Gabriel. During the life time of Muhammad, and under his supervision, these words were then memorized and written by his companions.

Note that God has said in the prophecy of Deuteronomy :“ If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him into account. ”( Deuteronomy, 18:19). This means that whoever believes in the Bible must believe in what this prophet says, and this prophet is Muhammad.

Song of Solomon 5:16

prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned by name in the old testament:

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is mentioned by name in the Song of Solomon chapter 5 verse 16:"Hikko Mamittakim we kullo Muhammadim Zehdoodeh wa Zehraee Bayna Jerusalem.""His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughtersof Jerusalem."In the Hebrew language im is added for respect. Similarely im is added after the name of Prophet Muhammad      (pbuh) to make it Muhammadim. In English translation they have even translated the name of Prophet Muhammad     (pbuh) as "altogether lovely", but in the Old Testament in Hebrew, the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is yet      present.

Page 21: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

Quran 61:6

Al-Qur'an Chapter 61 Verse 6:"And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said, 'O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me and giving glad tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed.' But when he came to them with clear signs, they said, 'This is evident sorcery!’

"All the prophecies mentioned in the Old Testament regarding Muhammad (pbuh) besides applying to the Jews also hold good for the Christians.

Page 22: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the New Testament:

1.   John chapter 14 verse 16:

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever."

2.   Gospel of John chapter 15 verse 26:

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which  proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me."

Page 23: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

John 14:16,15:26, and 16:7

Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 7:

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you ".” Ahmed" or "Muhammad" meaning "the one who praises" or "the praised one" is almost the translation of the Greek word Periclytos. In the Gospel of John 14:16, 15:26, and 16:7. The word 'Comforter' is used in the English      translation for the Greek word Paracletos which means advocate or a kind friend rather than a comforter.   Paracletos is the warped reading for Periclytos. Jesus (pbuh) actually prophesised Ahmed by name. Even theGreek word Paraclete refers to the Prophet (pbuh) who is a mercy for all creatures.

Page 24: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

The Comforter ?

Some Christians say that the Comforter mentioned in these prophecies refers to the Holy Sprit. They fail to realize that the prophecy clearly says that only if Jesus (pbuh) departs will the Comforter come. The Bible states that the Holy Spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus (pbuh), in the womb of Elizabeth, and    again when Jesus (pbuh) was being baptized, etc. Hence this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet     Muhammad (pbuh).

Please note pbuh means peace be upon him.

Page 25: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

John 16:12-14.

.   Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 12-14:

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is  come, he will guide you unto all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he     speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me".

The Sprit of Truth, spoken about in this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh)

Page 26: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

John 16:14 “He will glorify Me.”

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) glorifies Jesus:

“Whoever testifies that none deserves worship except God, who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that Jesus is the servant of God, His Messenger, and His Word which He bestowed in Mary, and a spirit created from Him, and that Paradise is true, and that Hell is true, God will admit him into Paradise, according to his deeds.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim)

Page 27: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

John 16:8

John 16:8 “he will convince the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. ” The Quran announces : “ Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, ‘God is the Christ, son of Mary’ - seeing that the Christ [himself] said, ‘O Children of Israel!  Worship God [alone], who is my Lord as well as your Lord.’ ‘Indeed, whoever ascribes divinity to any being beside God, unto him will God deny paradise, and his goal shall be the fire: and there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers!’” (Quran 5:72)

Page 28: Prophet muhammad in the bible by rachidm

John 16:13

John 16:13 “he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak .”

The Quran says of Muhammad: “Neither does he speak out of his own desire: that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired.” (Quran 53:3-4)

John 14:26 “and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ”

The words of the Quran:“…while the Messiah had said, ‘O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord.’” (Quran 5:72)

If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who

could dare to compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad?

James A. Michener, "ISLAM: THE MISUNDERSTOOD RELIGION," in READER'S DIGEST (American edition), May 1955, pp. 68-70.

"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level."

Michael H. Hart, THE 100: A RANKING OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSONS IN HISTORY, New York: Hart Publishing Company, Inc., 1978, page. 33.
