The foundation of the Imambargah was laid by Haji NazarAli Devji in 1921. He purchased the land and constructed the structure of the Imambargah (approximately 2,000 sq.ft.) and open space of approximately 3,500 sq.ft. Haji NazarAli Devji formed the ‘KSI Imambargah and Kabrastan Trust’ on 11th August 1921 (Registration No. B – 786 (Bom)- and handed over the Imambargah Property to the Trust.Jaffery Madressa started in 1981 at Haji Nazarali Imambada, Kurla, Mumbai India with the support of Late Hamza Bhai Devji Jamal. In 1985 Muharram Majlises at the Imambargah were extended from being conducted for upto 13 days to 40 days. Until 1987 the Imambargah and Trust continued to be managed by Hamzabhai, the legal heir of late NazarAli Devji. Due to his failing health he could not continue to manage the Imambargah and Trust any more and therefore he handed over the property and the Trust to Khoja Shia Ithna Ashari Jamat, Mumbai – which has been managing the Imambargah since then.

• The NazarAli Imambargah structure has only one hall of approx. 2,000 sq. ft.
• The structure of the Imambargah is now 90 yrs old and hence during Monsoons there are various places from where water seepages occur.
• During Monsoons additional expenses to construct temporary shed for open area behind Imambargah and at the entrance is incurred every year.
• During Moharram, Ramzan and other functions there is severe shortage of space due to huge crowd and temporary partition is to be made to separate ladies and gents.
13

Need for Redevelopment
• There are only 4 toilets in the Imambargah complex.Considering the number of people who visit the Imambargah this is not sufficient.
• Currently there is no proper segregation of ladies toilet area.
• There is no separate Wuzu Khana for ladies in the present structure.

Need for Redevelopment
17
Due to shortage of space it is not possible to have multiple programs at the same time. Due to Shortage of space at times when a large crowd is expected it becomes difficult to manage Ladies & Gents programs together. Jamat Namaz gets affected if some Ladies Program is being conducted. The Madressa has to be rescheduled / cancelled on many occassions when some other large programs is scheduled at the Imambargah. Serving niyaz / iftaar to ladies and gents becomes difficult due to shortage of space. In the current arrangment there is not enough space for individuals to do their Ibadat in solace. For eg. In Shabe Qadr if Qaza Jamat Namaz are offered then there is no space for individual Ibadaat in Imambargah.
Need for Redevelopment
18
Need for Redevelopment
Keeping in mind the growing population in the area it is felt that a larger and a more intelligently planned space is the need of the time. For this the existing structure needs to be demolished and the Imambargah needs to be reconstructed with a fresh approach.
