Quote of the Day

‘Seize the present opportunity; work with dedication and sincerity and enjoy it; this is the best present / the best reward that we can give to ourselves.’ ~ CV Varghese

Thought for the Day

The man passed out in a dead faint as he came out of his front door onto the porch. Someone dialled 000. When the paramedics arrived, t h e y h e l p e d h i m r e g a i n consciousness and asked if he knew what caused him to faint.

"It was enough to make anybody faint," he said.

"My son asked me for the keys to the garage, and instead of driving the car out, he came out with the lawn mower."

Tom had this problem of getting up late in the morning and was always late for work. His boss was mad at him and threatened to fire him if he didn't do something about it. So Tom went to his doctor who gave him a pill and told him to take it before he went to bed. Tom slept well and in fact beat thealarm in the morning by almost two hours. He had a leisurely breakfast and drove cheerfully to work.

"Boss", he said, " The pill actually worked!"

"That's all fine" said the boss,

"But where were you yesterday?"

Recently, the Psychic Hotline and Psychic Friends Network have launched hotlines for frogs. Here is the story of one frog and his discussing with his psychic.

A frog telephones the Psychic Hotline and is told, “You are going to meet a beautiful young girl who will want to know everything about you.”

The frog says, “This is great! Will I meet her at a party, or what?”

“No,” says the psychic. “Next semester in her biology class.”

General Tips

Every little bit is a step to help save the earth. Can also save you money too.

1. Don't Rinse - Skip rinsing your plates before putting them into the dishwasher. In average you will save 15 gallons of water per load. Plus, you will save time.

2. Hang Outside to Dry - Get a cloths line or rack to dry your clothes.

3. Turn off computers at night - you will save an average of 4cents/day =$14.60 a year.

4. Use Both Sides of Paper - You will save half of the amount of paper.

5. Get rid of baths - You will in average save about half the amount of water that you would if you were taking a bath.

6. Don't get bottled water - Instead of bottled water get a reusable container to carry water.

7. Turn the water off when you brush - You will save 4 gallons of water doing this alone.

8. Shorten your shower - Every minute you cut from your shower is roughly 5 gallons of water.

9. Recycle Glass - If you do not recycle this, it will take a million years to decompose.

10. Don't Pre-Heat the Oven - unless needed, just turn the oven on after you put the dish in it.

11. Use Warm or Cold Setting on Washer - instead of the hot cycle use the warm or cold setting. This will save a lot of energy a year.

12. Turn Down your Thermostat - Every degree lower in the winter or higher in the summer you put it is a 10% decrease on your energy bill.

13. Turn off your lights - The benefits are obvious.

14. Get rid of junk mail - It will lead to a lot less trees being cut down to take up room in your mailbox.

15. Use Matches instead of lighters - You can use the cardboard matches which are much more eco-friendly because they are made of recycled material.

16. Don't get a paper phone book - Use a online directory instead.

17. Give things away - Take things that you are not going to wear or use and give it to a charity or someone who will use it.

18. Go to a car wash - Going to a car wash is a lot more water efficient then washing your car at home.

Indonesian TV

In June 2013, a notice was distributed to the Home Island community that explained the digital tv switchover. The notice also included an explanation as to the provision of the Indonesian TV. It stated that:

“In respect to the provision of Indonesian TV to households, the Shire’s previous equipment will become obsolete however, as long the service remains operational residents will continue to receive the channels but it must be reiterated that when the equipment fails, it will not be repaired due to the failing cabling that feeds this service and the exorbitant repair costs. Residents wishing to continue to receive Indonesian TV are encouraged to erect satellite dishes with their own receivers.”

The equipment has now failed and the Shire therefore encourages those wishing to continue to receive Indonesian TV to consider erecting their own satellite dish.

Home Island Back Laneway Paving Project

As previously advised the Shire has committed to paving all back laneways throughout the kampong. This will be a 2 – 3 year project, which commenced in July 2016, with a dedicated shire team making 1400 bricks per day. Part funding was obtained for this project which will include the provision of a uniformed fence to each property adjoining a laneway. This will allow for the clear identification of the rear boundaries of each property.

The Shire will commence the construction of the first paved laneway this week. This will be the laneway behind houses 29 to 32 and 53 to 56. As part of the project the shire staff will work with, and assist any resident that has a current building / structure that has been built over the boundary, and will be assisting in fixing these problems. Residents may have already seen this happening. The Shire will then continue along this laneway in a southerly direction.

Access to your back laneway will be restricted and the Shire will be working with individuals to temporary relocate their boats and vehicles during the construction period. It is anticipated that residents adjoining a laneway under construction will be affected for a period of approximately 4 weeks, and we will ensure that we keep affected residents up to date throughout this project. Every effort is being made to minimize the amount of disruption to all residents.

For specific information on this project, and to further discuss any impact that this may have on you and your property, please contact the Shire’s work Manager, Mr. Ian Evans on 9162 6649 or email [email protected]

Home Island Back Laneway Paving Project

In your life, there are a lot of important things, but there are few things more important than your health. That’s why you need to consider the best ways to protect and preserve your health as you approach your later years. So here’s a few tips to help you to a healthy and prosperous existence.

Cardio

As you get older, your heart becomes more and more important. Heart attacks become more common, and problems start to arise. That’s why one of the best things you can do is exercise that will help your heart. Cardiovascular exercise, or, simply, cardio is doing any activity that gets your heart rate going. You should consider things like swimming, cycling, running, and, even love making! These will all help to get the blood pumping and get your heart rate going. They are key to a strong and healthy heart, and that is essential for your health.

Improve Quality of Life

Another thing that you need to consider is how to improve your quality of life when you get older. This means thinking about things like your diet and your care. Basically, you want to focus on helping improve your quality of life as you get older. You will find that you aren’t able to do as many things as you were when you were younger. So, come up with ways to get that quality of life back. If you’re elderly you might think about the likes of a care home.

As you get older, you need to take steps to look after your health better. Health and fitness play a huge role in your life, and you need to do what you can to improve yours as much as possible.

How do I do it?

The object is to insert the numbers in the boxes to satisfy only one condition: each row, column and group of squares enclosed by the bold lines must contain the digits 1 through 9 exactly once.

The rules for different size and shape puzzles are pretty much identical. The different size puzzles simply require a different set of numbers.
