Comeandmakeyourselfathome!AsBethChaverimReformCongregation’srabbi,mypriorityistohelpyoutofeelathomehereatBCRC.IsaythisintendingittoapplyasmuchtothephysicalspacethatweshareonBeaumeadeCircleinAshburn,VAastoyourindividualandfamilypracticeofJudaism.

BCRCisaffiliatedwiththeReformMovement,whichitselfisaproductoftheEnlightenment.ItsfounderswererabbisinGermanyofthemid‐nineteenthcentury.ReformJudaismtodayandBCRCasaReformcongregationcontinuetoreflectthehighestvaluesoftraditionalJewishandmodernWesternculture.AlbertEinsteincapturestheessenceofourmodernspiritinhisquotecitedabove.Learning,justiceandfreedomallintheserviceofcreatingpeaceareourhighestvalues.WearetheheirsofAbrahamwho,approximately3,800yearsago,heardadivinecalltofoundapeopleandafaithbasedontheinsightofoneGodwhoendowsthecosmoswithMeaning.WecontinuetolistenforthatdivinevoiceasitspeakstousthroughTorahandthroughthetruthsofourownlives.

AtBCRC,weareyoungfamilies,singles,teens,andemptynesters,LGBTQandstraight,multiracial,adoptedandnot,single‐parentfamiliesandtwoparentworkinghouseholds.Manymembersareinterfaithfamilies.EachofusdefinesourownJewishjourneythatweexplorethroughavarietyofShabbatandholidayservices,otherholidayandlifecyclerituals,religiousschoolandadulteducationclasses,culturalandsocialgatherings.Asareligiouscommunityandculture,wearefullyegalitarian.Menandwomen,girlsandboysshareequallyintheparticipationandleadershipofallaspectsofourworshippracticesandeducationalandculturalprogramming.

AboutUs

BethChaverimwasestablishedin1997byfivefamilieseagertocreateaReformJewishhomeinLoudounCounty.Ourmembershiphasgrown,andtodaywehavemorethan130familymembers,representingalldifferentstagesoflife.Ourreligiousschoolprogramscurrentlyeducatemorethan120childrenandatypicalb’naimitzvahclassof12‐13students.Ourmembersenjoyavarietyofprograms,includingsocial,spiritual,educational,andreligiousactivities,ledbythecombinedeffortsofourrabbi,AmySapowith,andourverydedicatedlayleadersandvolunteers.

YourmembershipincludesattendancetoourHighHolidayservices,abilitytoenrollyourchildreninourreligiousschool,weeklye‐mailupdates,pastoralcounseling,adulteducation,andtheabilitytoparticipateinallcongregationalactivitiesatnochargeorthememberrate,asappropriate.

TheBethChaverimReligiousSchoolstrivestocreatealearningenvironmentthatpromotesapositiveJewishidentityforstudentsinpre‐kindergartenthroughhighschool.OurJudaicStudiesprogramisacomprehensiveintroductiontoalifetimeofJewishlearning.WestudytheTorahandBible,ourJewishidentity,Israel,JewishHolidays,thesynagogue,God,lifecycle,andJewishethics.StudentsarechallengedtounderstandandapplyJewishconceptsintheirlivesandintheircommunity.OurHebrewStudiesprogramisdesignedtodevelopstudents'abilitiestoreadHebrewandsupportsthemintheirunderstandingoftheTorahandinpreparationsforbecomingaBarorBatMitzvah,andafterwardaConfirmand.WefollowtheURJ’sChaiprogramforJudaicsandtheURJ’sMitkademprogramforHebrew,andhavearotatingannualprogramforHebrewChaiSchoolandConfirmation.Wealsofeatureamusiccurriculumdesignedtoteachthestudentsthehymns,melodies,andprayersheardinworshipservices.AllofourclassesmeetonSundays.

Westrivetotreateachstudentasanindividualtoguaranteethebesteducationforhisorherneeds.Ourreligiousschoolpromotescreative,dynamic,andinteractiveclassroomlessonstokeepouryoungstudentsinvolvedandfocused.Traditionaltextbooks,guestspeakersandspecialprogramdaysalsosupportclassroomstudy.Itisourhopethatparentswillcontinuetojoinusaseducationalpartnersinthelivesofourchildren.Parentsareencouragedtoattendmonthlyeducationcommitteemeetings,becomeroomparents,sitinontheirchild’sclasses,andtakeadulteducationclasses.Bar&BatMitzvahProgramBethChaverimoffersacomprehensiveB'naiMitzvahprogram,whichfocusesonguidingourchildrentowardbecomingresponsiblemembersofthesynagogueandJewishcommunity.OurapproachisinteractiveandincludesprogramsthroughouttheschoolyearwithB'naiMitzvahstudentsandtheirfamilies.InthemonthsleadinguptoBar/BatMitzvah,aBCRCtutorworkswitheachchildweeklyinpreparationforthisimportantceremony.StudentsalsoworkwithRabbiSapowithtopreparethestudent’sD’varTorah,andperformactsofmitzvahandcommunityservice.
