3. APPLICANTS TO NOTE

1. Before filling in the application read the Prospectus carefully. Preserve the Prospectus till the completion of the course.

2. The Applicant has to detach and fill in the following :

(1) Application Form, (2) Computer Coding Sheet and (3) Address Slip.

3. The Application must be accompanied by All the Original Certificates as stated in the Prospectus and theRegistration Fee of Rs. 130/-.

4. The Applicant has to state clearly the Degree Course and Subject which he/she wants to study.

5. Photographs to be affixed :

1. One on the Application Form[Attested by a Gazetted Officer / Faculty / Officials of the University with Seal]

2. One on the Address Slip.

3. One on the reverse side of the Coding Sheet.

ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES FROM OTHER STATES1. Candidates from other states should submit their applications at any one of the Study Centres of the

Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras, of the State concerned for admission tovarious courses offered by IDE.

2. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States will automatically be linked with theIDE Study Centre of the State concerned.

3. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States where there is no Study Centre of thisInstitute, will be linked with the nearby IDE Study Centre of the other State and candidates should undergothe courses offered by this Institute through such allotted IDE Study Centre only.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PAYMENT OF FEESStudents are advised to avail themselves of the facility offered by the BANKS designated by the

Institute of Distance Education University of Madras, spread all over INDIA for payment of feesrelating to remittance of Registration fee, Tuition fee, Examination fee and other fees as applicablewithout any additional charges. A challan in triplicate is appended to the Prospectus for the purposeof remittance of fees. The challan is also available in all the designated BANK branches. In placeswhere there is no designated BANK, the students may make the payment by means ofDEMAND DRAFT obtained from any Nationalised / Schedule Bank drawn in favour of“THE DIRECTOR, IDE, UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS” payable at Chennai.

prospectus. Students are advised not to have any dealing with any other unauthorised Institutions /Agencies pertaining to admission to any of the courses offered by this Institute. They are cautioned thatadmission secured from unauthorised centres will be automatically cancelled.

Admission to the First Year M.A. / M.Music / M.Com. / M.Sc. Degree Courses is open tocandidates who have passed any one of the following Examinations :

[1] Candidates who have passed the Three Year Undergraduate Degree Courses throughthe Universities recognised by the University Grants Commission [UGC] with 15 years durationeither under 10 + 2 + 3 [or] 11 + 1 + 3 [or] 11 + 2 + 2 [or] 11 Years S.S.L.C. plus One Year P.U.C.[or] 10 Years S.S.L.C. plus 2 Years Pre-Degree/P.U.C./Intermediate/Higher Secondary Examinationunder 10 + 2 + 3 pattern are eligible for admission to Post-Graduate Degree Courses offered bythis Institute provided they should satisfy the requirement of the concerned branch of study.

[2] Candidates who have passed the Three Year Undergraduate Degree Courses throughthe Universities recognised by the University Grants Commission [UGC] with 15 years duration[i.e.] under All India Senior School Certificate Examination of 12 Years duration are eligible foradmission to Post-Graduate Degree Courses offered by this Institute provided they should satisfythe requirement of the concerned branch of study.

[3] Candidates who have passed the Three Year Undergraduate Degree Courses throughthe Universities recognised by the University Grants Commission [UGC] with 15 years duration[i.e.] under I.S.C. Examination of 12 Years duration are eligible for admission to Post-GraduateDegree Courses offered by this Institute provided they satisfy the requirement of the concernedbranch of study.

[4] Candidates who have passed the Three Year Undergraduate Degree Courses throughthe Universities recognised by the University Grants Commission [UGC] with 15 years duration[i.e.] under G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination with three subjects at the Advanced Level orPrincipal Level and English at the Ordinary or Subsidiary Level are eligible for admission toPost-Graduate Degree Courses offered by this Institute provided they satisfy the requirementof the concerned branch of study.

(II) ELIGIBILITY – COURSE-WISE

(1) M.A. – TAMILCandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination offering Tamil as the Main

Subject of study under Part-III Core Course [or] B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examinations under Part-I[or] Part-II Foundation Courses Paper-I and Paper-II [or] B.Lit. Degree Examination of thisUniversity [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] any other examination accepted as equivalentthereto by this University are eligible for admission.

(2) M.A. – ENGLISHCandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination offering English as the Main

Subject of study under Part-III Core Course [or] B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examinations under Part-I [or]Part-II Foundation Courses Paper-I and Paper-II of this University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] anyother examination accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.

Degree Examinations under Part-I [or]Part-II Foundation Courses Paper-I and Paper-II of this University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] anyUnder-Graduate Degree with PRAVEEN or other examination accepted as equivalent thereto bythis University are eligible for admission.

(4) M.A. – URDUCandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination offering Urdu as the Main

Subject of study under Part-III Core Course [or] B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examination under Part-I [or]Part-II Foundation Courses Paper-I and Paper-II of this University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS][or] examinations of other Universities accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligiblefor admission.

(5) M.A. – MODERN ARABICCandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination offering Arabic as the Main

Subject of study under Part-III Core Course [or] B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examination under Part-I [or]Part-II Foundation Courses Paper-I and Paper-II [or] Afzal-ul-Ulema [O.T. in Arabic] of thisUniversity [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] Shahadatul Fazeelat of Jamia Darus Salam Oomerabad,Tamilnadu [or] Moulvi Fazil of Jamia Mizamia, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh [or] Fazil ofAl-Jamiatul Islamia Darul Uloom / Waqt, Deoband [or] Fazil-E-Mazahir of Mazahir Uloom /Waqt, Saharanpur [or] Aalimiyat of Dural Uloom Nadwathul Ulama, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh[or] examinations of other Universities in India accepted as equivalent thereto by this Universityare eligible for admission.

(6) M.A. – HISTORICAL STUDIESCandidates who have passed the B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. Degree Examination of this

(7) M.A. – POLITICAL SCIENCECandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination of this University

[REGULAR STREAM/OUS] with Political Science as the Main Subject of study [or] in anyfaculty [viz.] Arts, Science, Commerce, Languages, Law, Engineering [or] examinations of otherUniversities accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.

(8) M.A. – PUBLIC ADMINISTRATIONCandidates who have passed the B.A. Degree Examination of this University

[REGULAR STREAM/OUS] with Political Science as the Main Subject of study [or] in anyfaculty [viz.] Arts, Science, Commerce, Languages, Law, Engineering [or] examinations of otherUniversities accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.

(9) M.A. – ECONOMICSCandidates who have passed the B.A. Economics [or] B.Sc. Mathematics [or] Statistics [or]

B.Com. [or] B.B.A. [or] B.B.M. [or] any Undergraduate Social Sciences Degree Examination ofthis University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] examinations of some other Universities acceptedas equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.

(10) M.A. – SOCIOLOGYCandidates who have passed any Degree Examination of this University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS]

B.A. Indian Religion (or) B.A. Philosophy from recognised University (or) Theological Indsititutesin India (or) Abroad (or) any Bachelor’s Degree of this University (or) other Universitiesrecognised by UGC and accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.

(12) M.A – HUMAN RIGHTS AND DUTIES EDUCATIONCandidates who have passed any Bachelor Degree in Arts, Science [or] Commerce of this

University [REGULAR STREAM/OUS] [or] any Degree accepted as equivalent thereto by thisUniversity are eligible for admission.

(13) M.MUSICCandidates who have passed the B.Music [or] B.A. Indian Music [or] B.A. with any

subject as the main [or] B.Sc. [or] any other Degree [or] an examination of any other Universitiesaccepted as equivalent thereto by this University and qualified in any one of the followingexaminations in Music are eligible for admission :

[1] Diploma or Sangita Siromani Examination of the University of Madras.[2] Ezisai Mani Title Examination of Bharathidasan University, Trichy.[3] Sangitavisarada Examination of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi.[4] Sangita Siromani Examination in Carnatic Music of Delhi University.[5] Sangita Vidvan [or] Isaikkalaimani Title Examination [or] Isai Vanar Examination [or]

Higher Grade Examination of the Government Examination, Government of Tamil Nadu.[6] Ganabhooshanam of Kerala Government.[7] Diploma Examination of Andhra Pradesh Government.[8] Senior Examination of the Karnataka Government.[9] Vocalists [or] performers of Melodic Instruments of Classical Music, auditioned by the

All India Radio and placed under ’B’ Grade [or] Grades Higher than that.[10] Any other Certificate, Title [or] Diploma examination of a recognised University [or]

Statutory Body accepted and approved by the University of Madras.(14) M.Com.

Candidates who have passed the B.Com. Commerce, Bank Management, Co-operation,Corporate Secretaryship, Computer Applications, B.A. Industrial Organisation, Co-operation,B.B.A., B.B.M., B.C.S. and B.Sc. Mathematics [or] B.A. Economics [or] B.Sc. Computer Science[or] B.C.A. with any two Core – Main papers offered in the B.Com. Degree Course are eligiblefor admission.(15) M.Sc. – MATHEMATICS

Candidates who have passed the B.Sc. Degree Examination in Branch-I Mathematics [or]B.Sc. Applied Sciences of this University [or] examinations of other Universities accepted asequivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission.(16) M.Sc. – GEOGRAPHY

Candidates who have passed the B.A. / B.Sc. Degree Examination of this University withGeography as the main subject of study [or] Graduate in any faculty [viz.] Arts, Science, Commerce,Languages, Law, Engineering [or] an examination of any other University accepted as equivalentthereto by this University are eligible for admission.

Paper / Practical / Project.Classification of Successful Candidates

Candidates who have secured not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in the whole examination shall be declared tohave passed the examination in FIRST CLASS. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed in SECONDCLASS.

Candidates who obtain 75% of the marks in the aggregate shall be deemed to have passed the examination in FIRSTCLASS with DISTINCTION provided they pass all the examinations prescribed for the course in the first appearance.

Candidates who pass all the examinations prescribed for the course at the first instance and within a period of twoacademic years from admission to the course alone are eligible for RANKING.

6. GENERAL INFORMATION

CERTIFICATES TO BE ENCLOSED WITH APPLICATION FORPOSTGRADUATE COURSES

The following original Certificates/Documents with two sets of xerox copies attested bycompetent authority should be sent along with the application form by the candidates for admission toM.A. / M.Music / M.Com. / M.Sc. Courses :

(a) Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the applicant last studied.

(b) Statement of Marks of the Qualifying examination.

Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination (Degree Course) from this University / otherUniversities should enclose all the original statements of marks right from their secondary school educationalong with the application form.

(c) Provisional Pass Certificate / Degree (Diploma) Certificate of the Qualifying examination.

(d) If the certificates are in a language other than ENGLISH / TAMIL, an authenticated translation inEnglish duly attested by a Gazetted Officer should be sent along with the original certificates.

(e) Candidates who have not undergone and passed the qualifying examinations under 10 + 2 + 3 or11 + 1 + 3 or 11 + 2 + 2 pattern or Open University system of this University / other recognisedUniversities need not apply, as they are not eligible for admission.

Failure to submit any one or more of the above certificates / documents may entail rejection oftheir application.

The application form duly filled-in and signed by the candidate must be accompanied by all the originalcertificates mentioned above (a,b,c) for admission to M.A., M.Music., M.Com., and M.Sc., Courses, togetherwith Registration Fee of Rs.130/- for the Post-Graduate Courses by means of challan paid through the designatedBank should be sent by Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due or submitted in person to“The Director, IDE, University of Madras, Chennai - 600 005” for Spot Admission at IDE, Chennai / theCo-ordinators of the respective Spot Admission Centres in Tamil Nadu / Study Centres outside Tamil Nadu listedin the prospectus.The Registration Fee paid by means of designated BANK challan towards admission forthe above courses is not refundable under any circumstances.

A Course Completion Certificate will be issued by the Institute on completion of the course or on discontinuancefor the period completed. Such candidates are permitted to take the examinations in which they have not passedeven after the issue of the Course Completion Certificate till the regulations with which the candidate has undergonethe course is in force.

All the original certificates should be attached at the top left corner of the application form with a tag or stringto prevent them from getting lost.

Candidates are advised to take sufficient number of attested copies of their original certificatesbefore sending them to the Institute.

Admission to candidates who have qualified from other Universities/Bodies will be considered only on thecondition that their previous qualifications are recognised by this University. However, action will be taken to recognisethe examination of a recognised University provided the syllabus of the qualifying examination is produced by thecandidate, subject to approval by the authorities of this University.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Students who want to discontinue their courses after the completion of first/second year should inform theDirector, IDE., before the 31st May of every year. Otherwise, full fees will be collected for the subsequentyears. Only after receiving the entire fees, his/her Course Completion Certificate will be issued.

Legal dispute, if any, relating to Admission / Examinations of IDE., will be subject toChennai Jurisdiction only.

Visually and other physically challenged applicants are advised not to apply for the Practical orientedM.Sc. Degree Courses.

EXEMPTION AND CONTINUATION OF STUDY

Students who have successfully completed the first year of studies of M.A., M.Sc., & M.Com. courses in theColleges affiliated to the University of Madras under the regulations in force from 1983-84, and the Collegesaffiliated to other Universities approved by the University Grants Commission [UGC] and Association of IndianUniversities [AIU] are considered for admission to the Second Year of the Post-Graduate Courses respectively, inthe same discipline, in this Institute, subject to the approval by the University authorities. These candidates shouldsend the First Year statement of marks in original along with their Application.

Candidates who have discontinued the M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. Courses, after passing the papers prescribedfor the First Year Courses, either under the old Non-Semester Pattern or under the Semester Pattern, in the collegesaffiliated to the University of Madras and the Colleges affiliated to other Universities approved by the UniversityGrants Commission [UGC] and Association of Indian Universities [AIU] are considered for admission to the SecondYear of the Post-Graduate Courses in the same discipline concerned, under the current regulations in this Institute,subject to the approval by the University authorities. These candidates should also send the required documentsmentioned above.

CONDONATION OF BREAK IN STUDIES

Candidates who have discontinued courses from Colleges or from this Institute and who seek admission inthis Institute in the Second Year of the course should pay a sum of Rs. 500/- or such fee as may be in force fromtime to time towards condoning the break in study and for permission to rejoin the course. If such students seekadmission in some other branch of study, they will be permitted to join the II year subject to the condition that theyappear and pass all the subjects prescribed from I Year onwards on payment of the prescribed fee. Candidates fromother Universities should pay Rs.750/- towards transfer fee in addition to condonation fee, if he/she wants to join inthe second year course.

METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES

Students can make their payments with the Banks designated by the Institute of Distance Education,University of Madras without any additional charge. The challan has three identical parts, Viz. Banks Copy,IDE Copy and Student Copy. The particulars required in the challan should be filled in by the Candidates withoutleaving any columns blank. The BANK will retain Bank Copy, and return the IDE Copy and Student Copy to thestudent. The IDE copy of the BANK Challan should be sent / submitted to the Director, IDE for official use. Thestudent copy should be preserved carefully by the student as a proof of payment. In places where there is no facilityfor the payment of fees through the designated banks, students may make the payment by means of Demand Draftobtained from any of the Nationalized/Scheduled Bank drawn in favour of “The Director, IDE, University ofMadras” payable at Chennai.

The filled in application form should be sent or presented along with the IDE copy of the fee paid challanendorsed by the BANK for the Registration Fee. This amount is not refundable under any circumstances.

The Tuition Fee and other fees for the First Year should be paid after or at the time of receiving theintimation letter of provisional admission. For payment of subsequent tuition fees and other fees for secondyear, no separate intimation will be sent to the candidates admitted. Hence, candidates are advised toretain this Prospectus till the completion of the course for guidance and make remittances within the duedates on their own. The enrolment of the defaulters will automatically stand cancelled. They may, however,be readmitted to the same course on payment of Rs. 500/- subject to approval by the authorities. Candidatesare not permitted to remit the fees in instalments (Except for the M.Sc. Degree Courses in Physics,Chemistry, Botany & Zoology).

Students are strictly instructed to use separate challans to pay the Tuition Fees and Examination Fees andsend or present them in separate envelopes. They are requested not to pay both examination and tuition feestogether. The Institute is not responsible for any delay in sending learning materials or statement of marks, etc., if theexamination and tuition fees are paid together.

Students can use the Fee Collection challan supplied with this Prospectus.

No extension of time will be given, under any circumstances, for payment of fees.

Candidates are advised to send or present the challan to the Institute or at the Study Centre/Spot AdmissionCentre as soon as they get it from the bank, so as to enable the Institute to send learning and other materials quicklyor to facilitate collection the learning materials from the Study Centre/Spot Admission Centre.

Students admitted through the Study Centre are advised to forward the payment challan endorsed by thedesignated Bank to the Study Centre for onward transmission to the Director and for collecting the learning materialsfrom the Study Centre. Fees once remitted will not be refunded or adjusted in any manner under any circumstances.

Prescribed text books are not supplied to the candidates by the Institute of Distance Education. Hence they areadvised to get them from the book-sellers. However, the syllabi and the learning materials will be sent to the candidates.

Learning materials will be supplied at the Personal Contact Programme/Study Centre/Spot Admission Centres. Thosewho are not able to receive at the centre may request the Director to despatch the learning materials by post.

The last date for receipt of the tuition fee and postage & stationery fee etc., for all the Second yearPostgraduate Courses is 10.07.2010 for the Academic Year Admission, and 10.02.2011 for the Calendar Year Admission.

CHANGE OF COURSE OR MEDIUMCandidates are advised to make a firm choice of the course of study they wish to pursue and the medium of

instruction before sending the application for admission. Normally, change of subject or medium of instruction willnot be allowed, but in special cases change may be permitted within one month from the date of admission onpayment of the prescribed fee of Rs.500/- subject to approval by the authorities.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION(1) The method of instruction is (a) mailing or distributing learning materials periodically to the students enrolled

and (b) personal contact programme. For each paper of study, a set of learning materials is given to thestudents. The learning materials can be collected by the students or his/her representative personally from theInstitute/ Study Centres/ Spot Admission Centres on production of the student’s copy of the payment endorsedBANK challan. These learning materials will guide the students in effective learning.

(2) In courses where attendance is compulsory, if a student does not attend the compulsory contact programme,he/she is not eligible to appear for the University Examinations (Theory and Practical). If candidates appearfor the University Examinations (Theory and Practical) without adequate attendance in the compulsory personalcontact programme, they do it at their own risk and it leads to cancellation of their appearance in theExaminations.

(3) The Personal Contact Programme classes will be arranged for the benefit of the students in Tamil Nadu andPuducherry and at the Study Centres in India. This programme is meant for classroom lectures on importanttopics and clearing the doubts of the students. Students are advised to attend the classes in their own interest foreffective learning.

(4) The venue and dates of PCP Classes will be intimated separately.

ADDRESS SLIPThe applicants for admission are required to furnish their address in each of the six slots provided for the

purpose on a separate sheet attached to the application form. The admission intimation, original certificates andlearning materials will be sent to the address furnished in the Address Slip only. Write the address in capital lettersand use ball pen only.

CHANGE OF ADDRESSAll communications and learning materials in the case of those who opt to receive by post, will be sent to the

candidates to the address given in the application form. Any change in the address should be intimated to theInstitute, Spot Admission Centres and the Study Centres immediately with the enrolment number. Candidates areadvised to make necessary arrangements in the post office for their mail to be redirected to their new address in theevent of a despatch being sent before the change is effected.

IDENTITY CARDIdentity Card will be issued after the First Year tuition fee is paid. The Identity Card will be valid till the

completion of the course. In the event of a student discontinuing a course, the card shall become invalid for theyear / years yet to be completed. Candidates are instructed to preserve their identity cards. They should note thatthe examination Hall Tickets will be issued by the Chief Superintendent of the Examination Centres, only on productionof the identity card. The arrear candidates can use the Identity Card for obtaining Hall Tickets even though theduration of the course of study is over. If the original card is lost, a duplicate card will be issued on payment ofRs. 100/- through the designated Bank Challan and the payment endorsed Bank Challan is to be sent for thispurpose together with a passport size photograph.

ENROLMENT NUMBER

Enrolment Numbers will be assigned to candidates on admission. The enrolment number will hold good forthe entire duration of the course of study. In communications addressed to the Institute, this number should bestated. Letters received without the enrolment number will not be entertained.

The Enrolment Number is a twelve digit unique code (alpha-numeric). The first two digits indicate the year ofadmission. The third, fourth and the fifth the centre, the sixth, seventh and the eighth the subject and last four theactual enrolment number.

SCHOLARSHIP

A) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who pursue their studies through this Institute underthe Regular Stream alone are eligible for reimbursement of the fees. They are also eligible for an annualallowance of Rs.500/- towards purchase of essential/prescribed books. This prescribed scholarshipform and other particulars in this connection can be obtained from the Director, Institute of DistanceEducation, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005.

B) Eligible visually or otherwise physically challenged candidates, can avail themselves of the State GovernmentScholarship for the Disabled. The prescribed form may be obtained from the District Rehabilitation Officer inthe districts concerned for reimbursement of non-refundable fees.

C) The eligible SC/ST students are directed to submit the SC/ST scholarship form during their study at IDE onlyand no SC/ST scholarship application form will be accepted after the period of study at IDE on anycircumstances.

FEE CONCESSION

The Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras offers fee concession to physically challenged personsand prisoners subject to the following norms. :

(i) Candidates with 75% physical disability will be considered for exemption from tuition fee provided thatthey should submit a ‘Disability Certificate’ obtained from “The Director, Institute of PhysicalDisability and Rehabilitation”, K.K. Nagar, Chennai.

(ii) Prisoners in Tamil Nadu are also be considered for exemption from tuition fee provided that they shouldsubmit their application for admission together with a ‘No Objection Certificate’ issued by the competentauthorities.

SPOT ADMISSION

1) Spot Admission for the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute in person or at the SpotAdmission / Study Centres along with the required certificates / documents.

2) Eligible candidates who seek spot admission can collect their first year learning materials at the Spot AdmissionCentres and Study Centres (including the Institute) by producing their copy of the payment endorsedBank challan. For particulars of total fees to be paid (excluding Registration Fee), please refer Page No. 23Fee Particulars - Course-Wise.

3) The second-year learning materials may also be supplied to the students at the Institute, Spot Admission Centresand Study Centres on producing the fee-paid challan (IDE copy) towards tuition fee for the second year course.

Students seeking Lateral admission to Second Year with exemption of papersshould attach two copies of syllabus of the subject for which exemption is sought

Candidates seeking lateral admission into the Second year of Postgraduate Courses in the Institute of DistanceEducation should enclose two copies of the relevant syllabus of the course they have undergone in theFirst year studies through the colleges affiliated to recognised Indian Universities / Autonomous collegesfor perusal and approval by the University authorities pertaining to exemption of papers in which they have alreadypassed. Besides, the original certificates pertaining to 10th and 12th [+1 & +2] School Education Mark Statement /3 year Degree Statement of Marks / First-Year Post-Graduate Course Statement of Marks Passed / Failed andTransfer Certificate from the Institution where the candidates have undergone their First year course, one set ofattested xerox copies of the relevant original certificates should be enclosed along with the application form.

Candidates from abroad seeking admission to the First Year/ lateral admission to the Second Year ofPostgraduate Courses in the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, should submit their application foradmission along with “EQUIVALENCE CERTIFICATE” obtained from the University Grants Commission(UGC) / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, in conformity with the course undergone by themas being equivalent to the courses offered in recognised Indian Universities. Students seeking lateral admission to theSecond Year course in the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, should submit their application foradmission together with Original Transfer Certificate/Course Completion Certificate issued by the Institution/Universitywhere they have undergone their First Year Course, together with original Transfer Certificate/Course CompletionCertificate wherein the actual duration of course undergone by them be appropriately indicated by the Institution/University concerned, with request for exemption of papers relating to the subjects already passed through their previousInstitution/University, together with the original Statement of Marks of their previous appearances and an authenticatedrelevant syllabus prescribed by the Institution/University in original or two copies of the syllabus attested by the Principal/Head of the Department of the Institution in the subject concerned where they have undergone their previous course forverification and to consider for exemption of papers after perusal by the authorities of the University of Madras.

Candidates seeking lateral admission to the Second Year of Postgraduate Courses for continuing their studiesin this Institute may be considered. Initially provisional admission will be given with exemption for the yearcompleted on condition that the candidates have to appear and pass all papers from First year onwards irrespectiveof the direct admission given to the second year. However, the exemption for papers in which the candidate hasalready passed may be considered after perusal of the authenticated syllabus submitted by the candidates, by thecompetent Board of Studies. On approval by the University authorities, candidates will be informed individually.

Candidates from other Universities / Autonomous Colleges, seeking lateral admission into the Second Year ofPostgraduate Courses for continuing their studies in the Institute of Distance Education are NOT ELIGIBLE for classification.

Candidates from colleges affiliated to this University who have appeared and passed the First Year course indifferent Regulations or Patterns and continuing their Scond Year studies in the Institute of Distance Education forcompleting the course are NOT ELIGIBLE for classification.

CANDIDATES WITH ARREARS

Students with arrears, after the completion of the duration of the course of study, have to seek and obtain on theirown initiative, with a requisition letter and with self-addressed envelope, the particulars of change of syllabus, provisionfor completion of course, practical classes, practical examinations, Examination Application forms, from the Director,IDE, University of Madras. The Co-ordinators of PCP /Spot Admission / Study Centres may provide the aboveparticulars. In all the communications to the Institute, these candidates should quote the Enrolment Number and address.

1. Students are advised to make their own arrangement for Boarding and Lodging.

2. Students are advised to bring their own Note-books, Pens, Pencils, etc.

3. Students from other States may attend Classes at any one of the nearest PCP Centres.

4. The Co-ordinator / Additional Co-ordinator at the respective Centres will be available for any clarificationregarding the course.

5. Detailed Time-Table for PCP Classes will be made available at the PCP Centres on the first day of thePCP Classes.

6. Any change in the programme will be intimated to the students at the venue of the PCP Classes.

7. PCP Classes will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. & 1.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m.

8. Students should not use Cell Phones in the class rooms.

9. Students are advised to collect their study materials from the PCP Centres / Study Centres by submitting theirtuition fee remittance challan (designated Bank).

10. Students are instructed to keep their identity card ready to be produced for any reference.

by the Institute of Distance Education University of Madras, spread all over INDIA forpayment of fees relating to remittance of Registration fee, Tuition fee, Examination feeand other fees as applicable without any additional charges. A challan in triplicate isappended to the Prospectus for the purpose of remittance of fees. The challan is alsoavailable in all the designated BANK branches. c) A student can additionally enrol for one Certificate Course only at a time.
