Enrollment SummaryWe are very pleased to announce that as of 1/31/10 the FOP Legal Defense Plan has an active enrollment of 35,320. The Plan continues to grow and with the choice of your own attorney, plan financial security, and the voice of the FOP, the Legal Defense Plan continues to be the #1 one choice for FOP members and active law enforcement officers.

Claims CornerDuring its 15 years of providing legal defense services the FOP Legal Plan has handled over 8,000 cases on behalf of participating FOP members. During that time, the Plan has paid in excess of $20 Million in legal defense benefits.

Additional Benefit and Price IncreaseEffective 01/01/10Effective January 1, 2010, The Legal Defense Plan incurred a price increase of $2.00 per month for full coverage. The annual cost for groups is $221 and individuals is $239.

To coincide with the price increase the board has also voted to broaden coverage by providing administrative off duty coverage as part of the program. Off duty coverage provides $2,500 per occurrence for administrative claims that arise from discipline or sanction for activities NOT “in the scope of employment”.

The price increase will take effect on your annual policy renewal date. At that time your coverage will be broadened to reflect the added benefit. If you wish to implement the adminis-trative off duty coverage prior to your policy renewal, please contact us and we will work with you to accommodate the request.

FOP Legal Defense Client Web PortalWe encourage all lodges to sign up and benefit from the FOP Legal Defense Client Web Portal. We have over 96 lodges currently using the client portal to add, cancel, edit members, as well as, view their payment schedule.

Please note, member reinstatements cannot be made via the client web portal. They must be submitted in writing to Maureen Jagos (maureen.jagos@hylant.com) at the Hylant Group.
